If Jay's looking for a team willing to be patient, I don't see him coming to Houston. Van Gundy doesn't do a lot of waiting. He gets guys who are ready to contribute.

I'll pass on Jay anyway. It'd be a great story if he could come back, but I don't think he can.

If Babcock wants him then I don't. Babcock must be the worst judge of talent among NBA GMs. Let him go to the Raps.

80% of Jay Williams is better than 100% of nothing we get from Mooch or Ward. Low risk big reward, I say get him if possible.

Since he played only one year we should be able to sign him for a fairly low vet minimum and would be also be eligible to go to the NBDL for a year. That way he would receive a fair evaluation with playing time against not quite NBA quality players under game conditions. If he passes that test then call him up to the big leagues.

I agree with DaDakota. Seems like a risk worth taking to me. Just cut Ward or Moochie for the roster spot. At least there is potential upside there - with the other two mentioned before, there is none.

if jay williams came here i think he would expect to have a bigger role than a moochie or a ward, who are at the bottom of the bottom of the barrel.

he hasnt played ball in two years. i dont think you could expect alot out of him at this point (pun intended). if he is healty, its going to take a few months to get back into pro basketball shape and in the meantime, there are about 5 or 6 guys ahead of him in the rotation. he wont get any significant minutes with us.

He hasn't played pro basketball since the injury and may not be ready till December. He also isn't likely to ever regain his speed. We haven't got the resources to make a trade for a capable point guard but Jay Will can't help us out right now either.

Remember guys, we're already cutting someone - most likely Ward. Do you think Jay can contribute more than Baker or Moochie? Baker ok, but I'd rather have Moochie this year than Jay because I think Jay is done ala what's that Sac guys name...

c'mon man, everybody deserves a 2nd chance. nobody thought grant hill would play another game but he did and he played damn good. i'm not trying to compare the two or anything but i think its worth a roster spot. the agent says money isn't an issue so what do we have to lose?

Some of you guys are acting like we can't the chance on Jay Williams and that we already have Ward and Mooch. You're talking about the chance to add a former #2 pick for almost nothing. I understand showing exercising come caution, but it's not like CD would give him a 3 year guaranteed deal.

He may not be able to contribute right away, but that is fine. Sura and MJ will hold things down for this season, maybe he can backup at PG after MJ leaves next season. Don't let the fact that we already have 2 crap guards in Mooch/Ward stop you from adding a former #2 pick, they could easily be cut to make room.

As other posters have already said, this is a low-risk/big-reward (potentially) situation. We gave Ward a 3 year deal, I think we can give JayWill a shot w/ a 1 year deal at the minimum.

everyone deserves a second chance, but with our glut at the 1 and 2 spots i dont see how williams would get any minutes. his rookie year was 9 pts, 5 assists and 39% f.g. considering that he hasnt played in 2 years and there was a question of whether or not he would even walk again, i wouldnt expect him to be any better than that. id take sura or mike james over williams.

we're already taking a risk w/ d. anderson who has has his share of injury problems the last couple years. williams would be better off w/ another team that would give him more p.t. and a possible starting role (if he is even capeable of it).

I am on board for giving Williams a contract, could be a huge payoff with minimal risk. The guy used to be really good. If he can pass a physical, sign him up. Wonder how his workout went?

I have no problem signing him, but I don't want the Rockets gauranteeing him 2 years unless it is for the league minimum. He has to prove his way back from injury. If it works out, great. But, if not, all you guys will be complaining, "Why did we have to go sign Williams. He's STILL counting on the cap!" if we give him a deal like we did Ward.

Of course you would take Sura/MJ over JWill, anybody would, but he wouldn't come here to replace any of them this season. He would take over Mooch's or Ward's spot.

Any team that takes him has to realize that he won't be able to contribute that much this season, if any at all. But once he starts back to full training and practices, he could become a good backup the next season and who knows, maybe even become a starter down the road, he is still young.

Who knew Grant Hill would come back so strong? Obviously, Jay William's injuries were much more severe. But don't forget that Hill basically missed 3 seasons in a row, all due to the same injury, but he worked hard and came back to give 20-5-3. Jay Will still has a good chance of making a good comeback, because he is young.

I'm not sure if he would qualify, but if he did the ability to option contracts to the developmental league might make a two or three year cheap contract more appealing. You could sign him and send him there along the same lines as the Astros do the draft, follow, & evaluate.

Depending on the medical, the potential upside could be higher than anybody else the Rockets could send to the developmental league, and if the contract were equal to a late first round pick, you wouldn't be betting the farm on a long shot. He could get the physical challenges in the developmental league that would serve as a kind of physical rehab that he wouldn't get on the Rockets bench.

Of course, I don't know all of the details of the setup, but it would seem that the developmental league factor would greatly alter the equation when considering a roll of the dice on a guy like Williams.

I'm all for getting him back to speed in the Developmental League, and bring him in when he's ready.

Why is everyone so anxious to give up on CWard? IIRC he was playing okay right before he went down last year. It has been three years since Mooch has made a FG. If Ward has healed up, and I do not have any info to the contrary yet, then there is no reason he would not be better insurance than Mooch and JVG likes him better anyway. Like I said above, why couldn't we sign JWill and send him to our NBDL team for a while. I was told in one thread on this board that a player has to be signed and on the 15 man payroll to be eligible for the NBDL team and has to be a first or second year player, so it is a perfect application for JWILL. If he thinks he is going to get guaranteed PT in the big leagues, I think he will be very disappointed around the league. He is still a gamble at best until proven otherwise.
