Maurice Jones-Drew, "I played the whole season on one"? You did? My bad, I was under the impression that you didn't play the last two gms of the season when your team was fighting for a playoff birth. As for Deion Sanders. What a freakin' joke for this dude to be popping off about anybody's toughness. He may have been a great cover corner, but EVERYONE who EVER played the gm or watched the gm knew that Deion was horrible against the run. Why? Well being good against the run means you're willing to take some punishment, which requires some toughness, which Neon Deion NEVER EVER had.
watching Tom Jackson and Trent Dilfer go off on Cutler on ESPN yesterday was freakin' pathetic. questioning the guy even after knowing he had a torn MCL. i wanted to punch my tv with both hands and smash their heads together.
If Tom Brady or Peyton Manning did this I doubt their would even be this big of a reaction. People would probably say "Well if he couldn't come back then he was really hurt".
Imagine being a Bears fan, the media has turned this into such a "big" issue that it's going to hang over the teams head well into next season. Such crap. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/football/bears/3476238-419/grade-cutler-elattrache-mcl-knee.html The criticism of Jay Cutler didn’t dissipate Monday after the Bears quarterback missed all but one series in the second half of the NFC Championship Game with an injured left knee. But Cutler won’t need surgery, and he should need only a few weeks to recover after an MRI exam Monday revealed a Grade II tear of the medial collateral ligament, as first reported by the Sun-Times. Cutler’s fate could have been much worse. “With a little bit more force, the next thing to go, in that situation, is the [anterior cruciate ligament],” said Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the orthopedic surgeon at Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Clinic in Los Angeles and the head physician of the Los Angeles Dodgers. “So anybody who has a Grade II or Grade III that doesn’t have an ACL injury is lucky.” ElAttrache, who performed reconstructive knee surgery on New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, said any player, “across the board,” would have had a hard time finishing the game with a Grade II MCL tear. “I’m in no position to talk about his psyche or his drive to play or any of that stuff,” ElAttrache said. “But I can tell you that this injury, I don’t care what position it is, they’re not going to be 100 percent. “And if you feel you’re not too mobile, you’re not only putting yourself but your team at risk.” How Cutler and the Bears’ medical team staff handled the situation is consistent with standard protocol, ElAttrache said. “Initially, as soon as it happens, [the patient] may say, ‘That feels unusual. Then keep playing,’ ” ElAttrache said. “But as the knee bleeds, it becomes more stiff and uncomfortable. So initially, you might find a guy who can play a couple of series. But then when he doesn’t move around, his knee will stiffen up. “Looking at it, as time went on, he became less mobile and more uncomfortable.” Dr. David Thorson, who works with the U.S. ski team, added that trying to continue to play would have increased the chances of Cutler tearing his ACL, a knee ligament that requires upward of six to nine months of rehabilitation after surgery.
I hate those two more than anyone else on ESPN's football coverage. They very much take a "I'm superior to everyone" attitude with that type of stuff. Dilfer talks about it all the time in the leadership department, ignoring the fact that his team ditched him despite winning a Superbowl as soon as they felt they had a functional replacement.
I can sort of understand the mentality of these players and former players when they say these sorts of things. I mean, players have played on bad legs before and some of them have done so remarkably well. So I get both sides of the argument really and I don't think either is moronic.
Come on man, if it weren't Cutler I doubt this would have turned into such an issue. I watched him take beatings throughout the season and I'm well aware of his issues as a QB but I'd never questioned his toughness. These guys were just chomping at the bit to get on Cutler.
Not to mention, didn't Deion sit out large amounts of time due to turf toe? I've had the injury. Yes, it hurts. It's not something you can't play on if you're not a p***y.
Sure - players play with injuries all the time. But players miss time with injuries all the time too. Even if they themselves managed to be healthy their own careers, they all had teammates that had significant injuries. Maurice Jones-Drew missed the last two games of the season with his own knee injury. The only way those comments are justified is if you feel that no one gets hurt and everyone should play through anything. If you don't believe that, you can't comment on an injury that you know nothing about.
yeah, pretty much the only player that could talk **** was brett favre until about week 15. everyone else should stfo, especially mjd. what an assberet.
He apparently is not very well liked for various reasons - not really sure what. But this isn't exclusive to him. Big Ben's teammates (Hines Ward, in particular) b****ed about his toughness after his concussion last year too before apologizing when they learned it was actually serious. Players and commentators just have this bizarre need to vocalize opinions about things they know nothing about.
Again, I've seen it both ways. I have seen people question injuries that turn out to be severe and pity for those that don't turn out to be severe. I understand it, they have that tough guy mentality and frankly are not known to be the smartest people in the world. Maybe it is like GRENDAL said, it is more to do with the player than the actual injury and if that is the case, what has Cutler done to provoke this venom from his peers?
That's something I've never been able to figure out, what he's done that's just so horrid. I mean the worst things I've read is that he's aloof and distant to the media. What little I've heard about his time in Denver, most of the complaints were maturity issues in his first 2 years or so. The McDaniel's saga is a laughable point of contention considering what McDaniel's was exposed to be. In his time with the Bears, I haven't seen or heard him say anything that was objectionable. His teammates all seems to enjoy playing with him and say nothing but positive things. Only thing that I can determine is that he's a pretty private guy who doesn't enjoy dealing with the media. Didn't know that was an unexcusable thing but apparently it is.
Have you seen his face? That stupid clueless look on his face make you want to punch him. But that's not his fault, is it? I also don't get why people are jumping on him, dude was injured and followed procedure. The end.
Not really man, the whole body language arguement seems like the most petty criticism. By this point, I think the guy is who he is. On the converse, while people b**** about his disinterested attitude, these same people b**** about his attitude on the field, b****ing to officials and such.
A lot of them get shots done to play through it. Cutler has diabetes so it's tough for him to get those shots.
