My personal favorite and in my opinion the greatest film ever made. I can't even count the amount of times I've seen it. When I was a kid, I was obsessed with sharks. My mom recorded 'Jaws' on VHS and I thought it was the greatest thing ever! Sure, had my 90's Disney Films upbringing, but Jaws was THE movie for me. Farewell and adieu to you, fair Spanish ladies Steelbook And finally the Restoration of JAWS <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/hLWvXaeDzwU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Truly a fantastic film, and also the direct cause of the ruination of an era of great cinema. Once studios realized they could make real money off summer blockbusters, the studio-backed art movie withered and died.
I was six when that movie hit theaters. Scared the hell out of me. For a year after I wouldn't even go in swimming pools. A++. Best "B" movie ever made, and still one of Spielberg's best.
Parents had me watch this when I was very little, maybe 3. For years I was obsessed with it and its crummy squeals. Now I'm terrified of water.
Steven Spielberg is single-handedly responsible for the shark holocaust that happened after this movie was released. Oh...the irony.
Love this movie. LOVE it. Did I mention, I LOVE THIS MOVIE? I can watch this movie any time, any moment it is on, any scene it happens to be playing, I will watch it. They just don't make movies like this any more. There is one thing which has always bugged me about it though, and this is not so much specific to Jaws, but I think more something that Spielberg just has a fondness for, which I do not like. And that is his use of 'local flavor' as extras in his movies. He has done this a lot of times, two right off the top of my head are the several scenes in Jaws with the local townsfolk, on the beaches and in that boardroom when they hire Quint.. and also in movies like Raiders and Temple of Doom, when the little kids rescue Indy from that bar, and also the scenes with all the villagers in Temple of Doom. It's jarring to me, because they are not actors, while everyone else in the movie IS, and it breaks the spell of them films for me. Plus, he almost seems to fetishize them, especially in ways which make them seem like caricatures or cartoons, and I just flat out don't like it.
