going by last years salaries (assuming all go up by 10% so increase should equalize).

based on earlier posts regarding the TE, it cannot be combined with players for one player. The only way we could use it is if NJ wanted to dump some other salaries on us to make the deal work, or we could pick up another player for the TE to offer NJ.

    Kidd - 13.1 mil runs through 2009.

To reach 13.1 mil, at least one our PFs has to go.

    Juwan 4.9
    MoT 7.8
    Spoon 5.45

    then a combo of:

    Pike 2.5
    JJ 2.2
    Boki 1.4
    Lue 1.5
    Gaines 1.1
    Griffin .7
    Approx 9.4 mil total.

Pike, JJ, Gaines and Spoon's contracts expire in 2006.
    MoT's contract expires in 2007
    Juwan's contract expires in 2008
Boki, Lue and Griffin's contract expires in 2005

Except for Kidd (and Jefferson when they extend him), NJ has only short term contracts (meaning most expire in 2005).

    Rockets view:
    Yao and Tmac are untouchable.
Out best PF is Juwan and our next best player is JJ.
Pike is a decent role player.
Lue, Boki and Griffin are decent role players with contracts expiring next year.

So, If I were NJ, would I take a package of:
    A future number one pick,
    Juwan 4.9
    Pike 2.5
    JJ 2.2
    Boki 1.4
    Lue 1.5
    Total 12.5 - with 15 % limit

NJ would take this if only if they couldn't get expiring contracts or decent players in another deal. It seems that they could get better deals from Memphis or the Clippers. Or, they could wait until midseason and then deal him to Portland for Stoudamires expiring contract.

Plus, this deal hurts the Rockets depth, leaves only MoT and spoon at the PF spot and no backup C - but we would still have the exceptions to address the problems.

    following up on previous post:

I would do the deal - even though our lineup would be:

    C - Yao, ?
    PF - MoT, Spoon
    SF - Griffin, ?
    SG - Tmac,
    PG - Kidd, Gaines

Hopefully we could use the MLE and TE to fill in some of the holes:
SF - Rodney White for the MLE
Maybe TE to NY for Mutumbo and Othella?

Only if New Jersey really wants to get rid of Kidd this could be our offer :

    Maurice Taylor
    C.Spoon
    JJ

    FOR

    kIDD

Sign Marcus Fizer to the 1.6 expection
    for depth

trade for A.Daniels for the T.E

Sign Darius Miles for Half the the 4.5 Expection

    Will improve our depth

I do not think JJ and kidd can co-exist

and Back up Center we are sure to find so stiff out there

not like we had a Stud backing up Hakeem in this years (Zan Tabak, Jim Peterson, Chuck Nevitt, Charles Jones, Earl Cureton etc))

Now not saying Yao is anywhere near Hakeem level and hoping he doesnt get hurt !!!!!

I don't think NJ would take MoT.
NJ would either want Juwan because he is a starter or Spoon because his contract expires in 2006.

Talentwise, NJ would insist on Juwan and JJ - than add the small pieces to make salaries match.

I don't think seattle will "give" us Daniels for the TE - if so the deal wuold already be done. Maybe we add a first?

Miles will probably get the full MLE wherever he signs.

I still like the above deal because there are decent free agent forwards available that we could sign with the MLE:
White, Miles, Horry, trent, EWilliams, etc.
If we added a SF like Miles or White and added a decent backup C/SF for the TE we would be hard to beat. Even Malone might try us for his last chance at a ring.

    C - Yao, ?
PF - Malone? Horry?, MoT, Spoon
    SF - Miles/White/EWilliams/Fizer, Griffin
SG - Tmac, veteran minimum free agent like Cheaney
    PG - Kidd, Gaines

Yao plus that backcourt would be amazing. The forwards would be terrible, but role players at the forward spots would be enough to win a championship woth that backcourt and Yao.

I still don't understand why some of you think that NJ would want high dollar/long term contracts in exchange for Kidd. Makes no sense, seeing as how they let Martin and Kittles go for draft picks, without taking salary back in return.
