Give them Mo Taylor and half of our first-round picks for the next 30 years...15 first-round picks, and whatever is necessary to make it work salary-wise.

"It's possible Jason Kidd will demand a trade if the Nets don't make an immediate effort to bolster a roster devastated by the loss of All-Star power forward Kenyon Martin. "He's not there yet," said Kidd's agent, Jeff Schwartz, when asked if his client would ask to be traded. "But Jason is going to be looking very closely at what the Nets' next move is." Newark Star-Ledger

"Another reaction came from Jeff Schwartz, the agent for Kidd, who is rehabilitating from knee surgery earlier this month. "Jason is processing this now,'' Schwartz said. He said that Kidd thought the fans "can't be happy'' with the Martin trade, but that Kidd also had a lot of confidence in the ability of Thorn and Ed Stefanski, the team's general manager, to rebuild. The Nets began preparations for this moment nearly a year ago when they turned down Martin's request for a six-year, $83 million contract extension, offering instead a $66 million package that Martin spurned." New York Times

"With Martin gone, the dominoes in New Jersey may start to wobble. There are concerns in the organization about Jason Kidd's unhappiness. The Nets may offer star forward Richard Jefferson a maximum extension in August to save face, but there's no guarantee he'll take it. And while Thorn is showing public support for Ratner and the direction he takes the team, there is no certainty Ratner will offer Thorn a contract beyond next season — Thorn's last — nor is there any indication Thorn, 63, would want to rebuild the Nets again." Journal-News

"That may not be enough to keep Jason Kidd content. Several people close to the star guard have said for weeks that the franchise star could ask for a trade if the Nets ended up losing Martin. Kidd, who at 31 desperately wants to win a ring, did not re-sign with the Nets for six years and $103 million last summer to see them trade his All-Star big man and close friend for picks that might never amount to anything." New York Daily News

"The Nets aren't about winning anymore," one of Kidd's teammates said. "It's about development." As recently as Tuesday, the Nets were committed to keeping Martin when Thorn rejected the Nuggets' offer of three picks and told reporters a sign-and-trade would not happen. Thorn was hoping to acquire Nene, but the Nuggets wouldn't part with their power forward. The Nets were going to allow Martin to sign an offer sheet with Denver and try to match." New York Daily News

"The Nets will revisit trade scenarios from recent weeks, especially those with Cleveland for forward Eric Williams and shooting guard Dajuan Wagner; with Portland for forward Shareef Abdur-Rahim (who is a decided longshot); and with the Clippers for forward Bobby Simmons." New York Post

"If Abdur-Rahim is unattainable, the Nets will try to work the Kittles for Wagner, Williams and Kedrick Brown scenario. The Nets also have tried to deal Kittles to the Clippers with an eye on Simmons." New York Post

"Two sources say the Nets still try to acquire other players like Portland's Shareef Abdur-Rahim. But the future looks bleak for a team that went to the Finals twice in the last three years. Kidd could demand a trade. Also, the Nets are down to Aaron Williams and Brian Scalabrine at power forward at the moment and CEO Thorn's contract is up after next season." New York Daily News

"The Nets can still pursue acquiring Shareef Abdur-Rahim from the Portland Trail Blazers. But if the deal is going to include veteran guard Kerry Kittles — who has been on the trading block for two months — a third team will likely need to be involved. Abdur-Rahim is to make $14.6 million in 2004-05, but he's a free agent next summer. With Dikembe Mutombo and Alonzo Mourning set to come off the books next summer (if the latter doesn't play), the Nets will be well under the salary cap after this coming season." Journal-News

All those articles are nice. But they give no indication that the Nets are stupid enough to take Mo Taylor and the TE for Jason Kidd.

When a player says that he wants a ring more than money. It's something to watch; for the best contenders (we're not the only team).

But he'll more likely play for a team that doesn't already have TWO stars; i.e. Miami next year? Shaq/Kidd! Nice...(or other EC teams).

If he wanted to play for the Rockets, he'd have to take a HUGE pay cut; play for peanuts? Well, that's what it would take. Plus, there are other complex salary issues that I'm not qualified to answer. Only the professional capologist on the BBS can answer that.

My choice would not be a 31 year old Kidd next year or the year after. No. My choice would be Hinrich after his rookie contract is up (2006). He's a great passer, outside shooter, a decent defender. Plus, he's only 23-25. I predict his assist to grow to 8 apg and his TO to drop to below 2.5.

Not saying that Kidd isn't great. Just not likely for us.

Do you really think Indiana and us are the only ones who would want Jason Kidd as our PG???

I am sure the Lakers would love to have him

I am sure Portland would love to have him.

I am sure Dallas would love to have him.

I am sure Memphis would love to have him.

I am sure Boston would love to have him.

I am sure GS would love to have him.

I think the Rockets don't need Kid at such a price. He's old with big and long contract, coming off a knee injury, and couldn't score in the last playoffs. If someone is going to get the Max next to Yao and T-Mac, that guy needs to be a great scorer who's willing to defer to Yao and T-Mac but can turn it up when need be. Kidd isn't that type of player. Or a Carlos Boozer type bruising stud front court player. The Rockets don't lack scoring and Kid's strong point is to help others score. The Rockets need a stud 4 or a third scoring option to depend on carrying the team when either Yao or T-Mac is off. If we won't get them then they should follow Joe Dumars going for depth instead of blowing money on declining stars.

There's also no guarentee the LT threshold will be off in the next couple of years. We will have three Max contracts with no depth even if we can trade our bench players for Kidd, and it needs a lot of cash to build the bench nowadays. Kidd will also be declining when Yao and T-Mac are peaking. Our window of winning is long and there's no need to gamble on Kidd. This might turn to be another Barkley trade. Make no mistake that Kidd, although good, is no Barkley.

Why should we rule out Indiana? They can offer Bender, Tinsley and Foster. Then what?

Dallas and LA would want him. Miami wouldn't mind having him.

Lots of better deals out there. Even Portland would offer up Abdur Rahim and a pick or Stoudamire and picks.

I am sure i said CONTENDERS - as in for a ring.

Thanks for making my point. Besides us and Indiana -- there are no other contenders who would via for kidd's services at 31yrs old.

Portland as I mentioned earlier would have the big expiring contracts to dump -- but they are not contenders. They are rebuilding.

The Lakers are already paying Gary Payton -- if you thought Gary cryed last year. Is he going to back up Kidd?

Dallas, perhaps - but in my book they dont make the playoffs next year.

Memphis is paying for j. williams huge contract already -- the Nets are not going to take that off Memphis hands.

Boston is only a contender for last place east.

GS is not a contender. They have 3 expensive points already. They just signed Fisher like yesterday - are they going to go after Kidd now. Come on. Fisher, N. Van excel, S. Claxton???

It's between us and Indiana. PERIOD

Kidd is also a BYC player. Since we can't combine the TE with a player(s) to get Kidd, you'd have to find another team with cap space, willing to take some of our scrubs for draft picks. Not very likely. Taylor would have to be included to get the dollars even close to Kidd's $14+ million contract. Who would take him, New Jersey? It makes no sense. They'd most definitely want young talent & draft picks. The only young talent we have is Gaines, Nachbar, Badiane, & Spanoulis. That doesn't exactly look like the best talent available for the best PG in the NBA today & their total salary is ~$2.7 million. You would have to include either Spoon or Howard to make it work & I'd think that Howard would not be offered.

You could offer a 3rd team the TE, but what team is going to give up the kind of promising young talent that NJ would want & take on Taylor's contract?

I love trades, but even I can't dream up a way to make this one work. I think this thread should be merged into the thread below.
