    1) You don't get Jason Kidd for MoT and whatever filler.
    2) I doubt JKidd is going to be like Stockton was late in his career. A huge reason for JKidd's success depends on his speed and ability to run the break. He's not nearly as effective on the break and he was slowed by injuries last year. Stockton on the other hand was also brilliant in the half court set (see pick and roll) and was not as reliant on running the break and his speed to be effective.

I think we have a better chance of landing Hinrich.

It's not an impossible thought though. Kidd probably will move, I think. He's not going to fit with a team built on picks. It's just that he can move for another max underachiever like SAR or Ray Allan or C Webb or Rashard and Booth and Daniels or Vince Carter or Antawn Jamison or whatever, that the Nets can pick up and plug in with Jefferson. SAR is the easy match.

Rockets just don't have anything to offer.

Now, on the other hand, with Chicago we can do something.

If we help broker the Crawford-NY dealings, we could well end up with somebody. Yeah, it really won't be Kirk himself (though I'd give anyone but Yao-Mac to get him and I'd take on any crap contract to make it happen), but maybe Duhon or Gordon, or maybe just a useful energy guy like JYD instead of Spoon. Who knows? Maybe Jay Williams can push his wheelchair up the court and pass the ball.

Man, would that be great? We get Kidd and we have no money to offer Yao when his contract is up, thus he bolts for another team that is offering him the max, destroying everything that the organization has worked for, absolutely freaking brilliant idea!!! I say they should've done this yesterday.

    :D :D

We already got our blockbuster deal done, we just need some little tweaks here and there, problem is the stock of parts is getting lower each day.

If you have 3 players WORTH the max on your roster, then its well worth the luxury tax money. You'd make up the money by making the playoffs way more often, being on TV more often, selling more merchandise, and winning championsips, etc...

Having a Yao/T-Mac/Kidd trio would be good. If they all make the max, that's around 36M. The cap is around 43 or 45 I think. hat means we have plenty of space to fill out roster spots. Aside from the 10M below the cap, we can go a certain amount over the cap withouth paying luxury tax, and THEN we can dip a little bit into the luxury tax because, as mentioned, we can make up some luxury tax money.

However, I don't think there's any way we can get Jason Kidd. They should trade him to the Mavs for Antoine Walker and future picks. Better yet, to the Lakers for Miami's pick, Caron Butler, Gary Payton and Rick Fox's ending contract. I'm sure Atlanta would take him off their hands for free. Cleveland could offer Illgauskas? SAR and a pick or Damon Stoudamir and picks?

Lots of offers better than anything we can offer.

Sherlock -- Great analysis. The only problem there is no point available in Yao and TMac age group w/ the ability to lead us now. Carlos Arroyo could have been that guy.

Yes, the magical transformation that occurs when a player goes from east to west. But of course transversely this would also occur when JKidd comes west from east. He would become much less solid. Therefore the trade would equal out.

Kidd is a Guard, MoT is a PF.

The whole East vs. West thing revolves around big men being better in the West.

    All joking aside...

Isn't the big man balance of power now in the east?

I mentioned J Kidd a week or two ago, but I didn't see the financial possibilities for it.

Still don't. And I want to keep Boki, JJ, and MoT.

Yes, the big man balance has gone to the east. But please don't say anything that would discourage the "Kidd to Houston" dreamers....

The Nets are rebuilding, but we don't have enough rebuilding material to offer. Besides I think it would be much smarter to go for a value PG and a value center. We need the kind of role players who helped Shaq and Kobe win titles. They don't have to be the same role players like DFish, but similar. Look at what happened when the Lakers took on more superstars.

Trade Exception CANNOT be combined with other players/exceptions in trades to get a more expensive player(s) from other teams.

And yes! Many teams will want Kidd even with the status of his knee unclear at this moment.

Marylandterps: Trade Mo Taylor, the trade exception, draft picks (for Jason Kidd) -- whatever it takes.

    Willis25: Basketball For Dummies!

Marylandterps: Is it that crazy? The Nets are clearly rebuilding now. Jason is 31, coming off an injury -w/ a huge contract....

LOL! :D:D:D That cracked me up! (Wills25, I think you meant to post the book twice!).

That's crazy. The west is known for it's power forwards not point guards. Jason Kidd is THE BEST true point in the game period. We just have to try to get him while the timing is right. In the West he's still the top point.
