I got a better question, when was the last time the Rockets came out of a timeout and executed a play properly?
I have watched a fair amount of Kidd play, and of course, a whole lot more of Stevie. In my mind, here is the biggest, most significant difference in what they do with the ball on offense. I can't give you any detailed percentages, but when Kidd sets up the offense, the vast majority of the time, he makes a pass, almost immediately. Stevie very rarely makes a pass immediately. When he does, it usually goes to Cat. Kidd passes the ball, then usually flashes through the lane and comes around to receive the ball back or sets up on the offside. Stevie usually comes down and never picks up his dribble. Maybe someone will come out and pick for him. Maybe he will use the pick or not. Usually, he will cross-over his man four or five times. Then he will try to get a shot or drive. Sometimes, Rudy has called a play for someone and he will pass him the ball. So, the big difference is that Kidd comes down and gets the ball moving to his teamates right away. It may come back to Kidd fairly quickly, but in the meantime, several other players have gotten into some kind of offensive flow and given the defense something to think about. I think there is a big benefit in getting more people involved on every offensive possession. Even if the ball comes back to Francis and he takes the shot, it keeps everyone else a little more involved and a little sharper. It's just like when you have a pitcher in baseball that works very slowly. People get bored. A fast working pitcher keeps his team on their toes more and is more likely to get better plays from them.
i just recently saw the "And 1 Mix Tape Volume 1," where the man bringing the ball upcourt (Rafer "Skip to My Lou" Alston) pretty much does the same thing stevie does. yes, stevie doesn't take it THAT far, dribbling around peoples heads and stuff, but it seems to me that the streetball-cross-over-your-man-ten-times-before-jacking-up-a-shot culture reflected in the Mix Tapes has had a leeeettle too much influence on stevie's and "Shootino's" [ref. mav3434] games. this is probably stating the obvious, but oh well, just chalk it up to some verbal incontinence on my part.
I think Francis would have anywhere from 2 to 2 1/2 more assists a game if this team would shoot better. I think he might be an mvp next year once his team starts to shoot better. You cant argue with 30 pg, 8 rb, 8 assists a game. But maybe not I dont know im stupid.
Would any one of you rather have Yao Ming off the bench rather, than traded that pick or Just selected JAy williams. We DONT NEED A POINT GAURD>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> plus jay is averaging 41% ft shooting. i beleve shaq shoots better. and so does olden police.. dear lord bak off of steve, and YAO. u can go all out on KT thoug i love KT but Trade teh guy for sumone that actually has a position. SF.. no...PF....no....SF... no....PF...no...C..make up your mind
