Well, that's one way to get rid of him...

Well it's hard to give Purpura a reacharound.

Tim is the worst GM in sports. BUT...Uncle Drayton is the one who really is pulling the strings,

    Here's what really galls me:
Where was Purpura's comment about being perplexed? Just unforgivable.

I fully agree that most of this is Drayton's business-only approach to running the team, but Purpura has got to go. Embarrassingly incompetent.

As for whoever said we can judge this trade next year, come on. Hirsh alone would have been a better asset than Mr. Lit Up.

We've got an emptied out farm, and no real means to bolster a junkyard rotation behind Oswalt.
With Purpura refusing to trade Lidge for prospects, not getting picks for losing FAs, and not signing the few picks they had...he's crapped out our immediate future.

I hope the fanbase withholds their cash from Drayton and sends a message.

    Evan

Why the hell did it take so long for them to figure out that he was injured??? That's at least 10 games we'll never have back. This trade keeps getting better and better.

They really need to change that rule. An injured pitcher isn't helping himself or the team.

I'd rather see a rotation full of rookies. Next year's rotation: Oswalt, Williams, Backe, Sampson, Rodriguez. Albers & McLemore would be fine in the bullpen.

They knew he was injured a long time ago. For some reason, despite his ERA going up for 2 straight months, they kept believing he could just pitch through it.

"I had an MRI done today, I had an MRI in April," he said. "The one today was pretty much the same. I showed a little more deterioration of the flexor tendon.

I meant why did take so long for them to REALIZE he was injured, as in "cannot pitch" injured.

I went back and read the thread when the trade was made.

    We couldn't "all" see it.

I thought it was a good trade. I was very pleased with the trade. I defended the trade as recently as a couple weeks ago.

I think I was wrong about the trade. :(

At least I hated the Jennings trade from day one, sometimes you are right, and sometimes........not so much.

i just hated getting rid of a young and improving willy T for a pitcher that only had 1 year left on his contract...Even if jennings DID have a great year, i could easily see the astros either getting outbid or simply overpaying. neither is good.

I've made no secret about my position the trade when it happened, and throughout the bi-monthly arguments about it since.

I felt a 200 inning pitcher who put up a sub 4 ERA in Colorado, coming to a team that didn't have a clear-cut #2, would help the Astros win a division that was very winnable.

Sure enough, this division is entirely up for grabs as the last month approaches... and had the Astros not made a move to get a #2, people here would be just as upset (given that the outcome of this season largely remains the same with or without Willy... given Oswalt's semi-struggles earlier in the year and now injury, Lance's off year, the bullpen's implosion, Lidge's injury, and the collective mediocrity of Sampson/Woody/Wandy).

As it turns out, they targeted the wrong guy... even though he was the bakcup plan to Garland.

You guys can look up my original sentiment on this season which I stated last August... if they weren't going to retain Pettite or Clemens (which many of you were ready to kick out the door due to Pettite's whining about the elbow/mediocre season... and Clemens' inability to get past the 6th inning on every 6th day of starting)... upgrading the offense meant NOTHING.

The luxury of Oswalt-Pettite-Clemens was taken for granted. I'd trade all of Carlos Lee's 100 million dollar contract, and withstand more mediocre offense, if it gets us back pitching.

or just keeping willy and having willy, pence and lee in the outfield plus a at least decent buckholtz and they are sitting fairly pretty
