His goal is to try to figure out how to get in the rotation?????? So, what is his goal after the first week of training camp?
That was a great interview. Practicing against someone like Omer can only make him better. I can't wait for the season to start! Would love to know what players on the team are practicing with each other besides Dmo/Omer.
Glad they are working together. Hopefully Dmo learns defensive tactics from Omer and Omer offensive ones from Dmo. When does training camp start? A month from now?
Some people complained about Scott "I wanna be a starter" Machado's "arrogance" and yet some people complained about DMo setting low expectations? I don't have problem with either attitude. But I wouldn't call it low expectation, I would call it good humility. He's still a low 1st round pick who is yet to play in a nba game.
I think all the rookies goals are to make it into the rotation. Once that is achieved, there next goal is to stay in the rotation.
I have such high expectations for this kid. Great interview during a time when actual Rockets news is scarce.
Speaking of rotation- The Rockets have a mess of a roster right now. Lets take a look at what might shape out at the end of training camp if the Rockets were NOT to make any additional moves, and lets look at who is most likely to get what rotation spots. NBA teams almost never run more than a 10 man rotation. Sure injuries happen, but if you don't win the spot in training camp, its an uphill battle all season long to keep that spot- So what rotation spots are pretty much guaranteed, or as close to guaranteed as you can get on the Rockets- PG-Lin, Backup ? SG- Martin, backup ? SF-Parsons, Backup ? PF-?, Backup ?, C- Asik, C/PF Backup ? So to fill in the remainder you have - PG-Douglas, Livingstone, Fortson, possibly Machado? Wings-Lamb, Delfino, Morris, Forbes Post- Patterson, White, Motiejunas, Jones, Smith, Brockman, J. Johnson, Simpson -Thats 16 players fighting for 6 rotation spots -With 10 players missing out on minutes you have to assume- Fortson, Livingstone(partial), Smith, Simpson, Machado? will most definitely be cut at the end of training camp unless one of these guys explodes on the scene. That gives the Rockets a 15 man roster. This also leaves 11 players fighting for 6 rotation spots All that being said the 15 man roster should look like this, and Im projecting rotations to look like this PG-Lin, Douglas SG-Martin, Lamb SF-Parsons, Delfino PF-Patterson, Jones C-Asik, D-Mo (not a true C, but Patterson could play well with him in the post) -Reserves- White, Morris, Forbes, Johnson, Brockman This means there is a good chance White, Morris, Forbes, and Johnson might see some heavy minutes in Rio Grande Valley unless there are major injuries. At least two of these players are going to get a real gut check when they dont make the final rotation, and that mean two new threads from know-it-all clutchfan rookies debating whether sending a "future superstar" like T-Will down to Rio Grande is a smart move or a bad move. Better be ready for it.
If Jordan Hill was as skilled and confident as Motiejunas, he would be a beast. The knock on Jordan is that he lacks skills and confidence. But, despite that, he is an NBA-caliber rotation player. If that's Motiejunas' absolute floor, the worst he could possibly turn out to be... I'm cool with that. D-Mo's ceiling is all star level.
Jordan Hill was raw when he came to us, had some moves but is not regarded as offensively skilled just because he can shoot some jumpers and some hook shots, rebounds well, is mentally inconsistent Dmo has 2 inches on him, could be an offensive juggernaut, works harder, could be better on D, rebounds well enough but could be better Dmo has more upside and is a different player other than manning the same position Jordan Hill never challenged Dwight to catch him....
