Just what is it that you read? I don`t know where you get your context but mine is the premise that, given enough money and having willing purveyors of media saturation in their corner, the movement can take an intrinsically disordered behavior, repeat over and over that it is `normal` and on par with procreative heterosexual behavior, and concurrently demonize and slander those who object to their assertions as bigots and homophobes. Taken to its logical end, this approach seeks legal remedy for its demands, and sanctions for those who oppose. For a contemporary analogy, ask the survivors of the Shoah and the Rwandan genocide how they feel about having wrong declared right by popular dictate in a similar fashion. And rhetorically- why is it that we must refer to such a storied and compelling civilization of Greece`ancient`? I don`t think it`s a reach to assume there are alcoholics and mental patients operating in the halls of power world-wide. But the damage to self and to others is not always headline fodder. In each case they are found lacking a wholeness that cannot be papered over compulsory social acceptance. Friend, it has already begun. Why is it that Catholic social services had to leave the adoption agency vocation in certain jurisdictions? Like Greece?
Okay okay, let's just go back to strictly following the Bible. Let's cull our seven sins, make sure our women are taught to never speak until spoken to and gather up slaves from our neighboring countries, starting with Mexico.
Good for Collins. Good for the NBA. Another huge step for the LGBT community - the progress towards societal acceptance and equal rights has been amazing in the last decade. It was really heartening to see all the support from fellow players after his announcement - Jason Kidd, Kobe, Ginobili, Earl Watson, Al Horford, Tony Parker, Kevin Durant, Rudy Gay, Bradley Beal, Kevin Love,Nicholas Batum, Luis Scola, Martell Webster, Trevor Ariza, Emeka Okafor, Dwyane Wade, Kenneth Faried, Steve Nash, Pau Gasol... the list goes on. http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/post/_/id/9223792/reaction-jason-collins-announcement
Is he the tallest homosexual in world history? And should he be able to play for the WNBA now that he is a homosexual?
What? At the time of the greatest acceptance of homosexuality in Greece it was one of the greatest civilizations in the history of the world. I'm not sure why you'd be using Greece as a reason to not accept it. You've been shown that your faulty biological line of verbiage you threw out earlier was as wrong as wrong can be. I'm not sure where you're trying to go with the Greece angle.
How persistent was the great Grecian Civilization? Is it even discussed past the Classical Era? Did, or did it not, crumble from within? And what were the circumstances surrounding its demise? And a bonus question- what did pervasive acceptance of homosexuality contribute to its perpetuity? You want a bottom line on the biology? Here it is- when two same sex individuals engage in their consensual act, does the potential exist for a child to be produced from said act, minus intervention? Simple question with a one word answer.
Your writing style is really over the top. Anyhow who cares about Greece. Same sex relations have been common among humans and many social animals forever. I don't understand why it is so hard to accept that.
No. Of course, with the world's population growing, it would make sense for some couples to not have the ability to conceive, but instead care for an unwanted child.
To answer your questions the Greek civilization was very persistent and had at least three different eras. They influenced the Roman Empire, and even our own democracy. So that their ideas persisted even after their empire fell. They had made globes of the earth during their civilization (they knew the earth wasn't flat) The things that led to it's demise were greed, fighting between the Greek states which weakened it and made it vulnerable to attack from the outside. The ultimate collapse did not come from within but from attack. Though the warring states from within made that possible. As far as it's acceptance of homosexuality that also was one of the things that was accepted in the Roman civilization to a great degree. So that did in fact contribute to its perpetuity. Your biological question is one that misses the point. Obviously a homosexual act does not produce offspring. The answer would be no. The bigger point to that is so what? That doesn't change the fact that in nature there are 1500 different species that engage in homosexuality. Furthermore, from a biological point the bigger threat to the human race right now is not a low birth rate but overpopulation. So if you want to boil it down greater homosexuality would contribute to our survival as a species not a hindrance to it. Add to that the small percentage of homosexual humans and it isn't a threat to the continuation of the species anyway. You have no biological point to stand on. Now I've answered your questions, but you still never explained why you would bring up Greece as some argument against homosexuality.
Glad you brought up Rome - I didn't feel it was necessary to my point, but I think your continuance made it for me. Temporally speaking, what is Rome now, other than a reminder of the fruits of licentiousness and overreach? And what did homosexuality contribute there? Therein lies the dysfunction. Pleasure is a byproduct of the sexual act, not an end unto itself. Of necessity you have constructed a complex, noisy anecdotal mechanism, with post-hoc fallacies genereously applied, to support your assertion. I rest on the beautiful simplicity of complementarity. My assertion is that it contributed to long-term societal rot; it did not strengthen the bonds of heterosexual relationships and therefore, ate away at the very core of Greek society and its continuation as the preeminent world power of its era. There is no question that homosexual individuals contribute positively to society. But acceptance and celebration of their chosen lifestyle cannot edify society because it is not fruitful. Social Engineering cannot produce truth from a lie; it can only promulgate the lie to its temporal limit. I'd like to think that this won't happen. This is my educated opinion. Obviously you are entitled to yours.
Ironically, I employ a Greek convention in my writing- rhetoric. Sad that it would be considered 'over the top'.
Really you are comparing acceptance of homosexuality with the Shoah and Rwandan genocide? Right here just shows the state of paranoia regarding homosexuals, or to be technical, homophobia. Right here you encapsulate why this problem exist when you use such hyperbole to demonize homosexuals. I hate to break it to you but there are, have been and always have been homosexuals serving in all sectors of society. As noted by even you the fact that Jason Collins can be so successful shows that being homosexual doesn't limit one's ability to function. You are pretty much just parroting or making up that homosexuality is a disorder that causes damage to self and others with no evidence. Catholic Social Services chose themselves to leave. They weren't forced out. Anyway I myself would be fine with a policy that excluded religious institutions from engaging in activities they find go against their beliefs, this would be apply to issues around gay marriage and adoption and abortion, with the caveat that they also don't take public money or other resources. The reason why groups like Catholic Social Services are in the situation is because they were trying to maintain a double standard where they could benefit from the public sphere without agreeing to the same standards as other groups. The easy answer to that is to follow separation of church and state. As FB noted the height of Greek civilization was also when they not only practiced but endorsed homosexuality. Plato, Socrates, Aristotle and etc. all practiced homosexuality, even the greatest Non-Greek proponent of Hellenistic Civilization, Alexander the Great, practiced homosexuality. If you believe that homosexuality led to the decay of Greek civilization your history is wrong. Greek civilization was defeated by Alexander who practiced homosexuality, and then by Romans who who also practicing homosexuality. Anyway consider that Greece now doesn't recognize Gay Marriage and look at the state of the country is in now? Maybe they should.
Rome was in no way a factor in the fall of Rome. Your question about what Rome is now is hilarious and totally off topic. Civilizations whether they openly endorse homosexuality or not rise and fall. The fact that they don't go on forever in no way should paint every practice that the civilization held as being a negative. What a silly statement. Again it exists in more than 1000 species. It is natural, and in no way threatens the continuation of the human race. Of necessity I simply linked it to a factor of biology that actually matters in this discussion. You are entitled to your opinion, but nothing about you opinion regarding Ancient Greece shows that homosexuality continued to the fall of that civilization
I normally stay out of threads on homosexuality just because I think the issue is utterly stupid, but dear God, this is ridiculous. So, source time. Tell me where you got the idea that homosexuality contributed to what is popularly termed the "decline" of the Western Roman Empire, and your evidence from an accredited, credible historian. History, after all, is completely about evidence and sources, so you surely must have some for your claim, correct?
