He's tall, athletic, and hustles. At least he doesn't stand around the perimeter waiting to shoot a three like Cook did. Cook was a better cheerleader though.
Hilton Armstrong is the new Brian Cook, not JJ. JJ can fill in adequately on occasion. Armstrong does nothing.
Charles Smith is rolling in his grave after that comment. From my scant memory, Smith was a better offensive weapon and much more rugged defensively. JJ is the homeless man's Charles Smith.
i hate replying to dumb threads, with that said, i'll make an exception here, Jeffries actually has contributed to the team during meaningful minutes, don't want to judge, but looks like the person who started this thread doesn't watch much Rockets ball.
I don't understand Jared Jeffries. He's not a bad player defensively--different strengths from the Chuckwagon, but not bad--but what I don't understand is how he plays on offense. You're 6'10" with the wingspan of a seven footer and just kind of weakly tip the ball in the general direction of the backboard? He needs to take some lessons from Hill, or heck, even Ariza. When you're that tall and long, you go up strong and dunk the ball. With his height, he could easily average 10-12 points per 36 minutes if he just played harder around the rim. Instead he averages 7 because he's so weak in the paint. He's an okay player, I just wish he'd work harder to meet his potential.
If you mean that JJ is the new Heart and Soul of this team? no way. What Cook took with him no one can replace.
I would try to give Jeffries as much time as possible (not jocking), because next year, will be the last year to sign a contract under the actual CBA deal. That means that if the guy has some good games, he MIGHT be able to atract some offers, and if anyone, offers him a 12 million 3 year deal or something like that, then we would avoid having him here next season and pay him 6 millions to do so.
Jeffries is a role player, and a decent one at that. He's just overpaid. Really, though, his big value to us is as an expiring next season, so we probably won't keep him. I love the Knicks Chick, though!
Jeffries is useful in some situations... ...as is David Andersen.... There were no situations in which Brian Cook was useful. Except garbage time.
Hilton Armstrong isnt even the new Brian Cook. He came over in a trade like Cook did, but Armstrong is only around half the season and expires. He's getting paid half of his $2.8 mil with the Rockets, which is chump change in how he came over along with Kevin Martin's $40+ mil contract. David Andersen looks to be the new Brian Cook either his year or when Yao gets back. But he's at least semi-usable and costs less than Cook. David Andersen's last 3 games total minutes = 44 Brian Cook's Rockets CAREER minutes = 44 Even Morey's end of bench poison contracts are getting better.
Well then in that case apologies. But I'm not sure why people really think he's that bad. Cook was God awful and Jeffries just seems to be a decent bench player. If he was cheaper he would be a really good deal since he adds height and somewhat paint protection. The only thing that really bothers me is him always trying to tip the ball to himself when rebounding. Just grab the damn thing.
