if true.... you know, things couldn't end up any worse. The Knicks get two max free agents, and the Rockets don't get one. It angers me to see how little players care about fans, teammates, and especially winning. It's a circus.
Myles Mills tweet @NewYorksRidaman its a steakhouse, allan houston amar'e and lebron were reported to be eating there
i agree with this. we're not sure about lebron yet, but history has shown that superstars (especially mega stars like kobe and lebron) are drawn to teams with a history of winning championships if they are going to leave their team. as i posted earlier, it's why shaq signed with the lakers, why kg agreed to be traded to the celtics, why the rockets landed pippen, why kobe demanded a trade to the bulls, why kareem left milwaukee for LA. im sure there are others in the past that i can't come up with off the top of my head. lebron doesn't appear to be any different than these other guys. they were all worried about their own legacy but chose to join a team where players have had (not to sound like borat) "great success!" before they got there. they went anyway because the team has a history of building champions.
I'm pretty sure it's also about money/business and fame. Him being in New York will be huge especially if he wants to be any where close to a billionaire.
Your kidding, right? I don't know what records Ewing holds with the Knicks, but the guy was a damn good center. In today's NBA, he would be a great center. Ewing had the misfortune to play in a era loaded with outstanding 5's, the greatest, of course, being the guy who defeated him and the Knicks and handed Houston its first major title, the Dream. I'll add that while New York has had a god-awful string of god-awful seasons and even worse management, I'm old enough to remember when they were one of the top franchises in the league. I guess you aren't. Having said that, **** the Knicks!!
idk man, i don't buy the money/fame aspect. lebron can't get any bigger. even his endorsements (most notably, nike) have admitted recently that they won't pay him more in NY because he's already being paid the most they offer any athlete. he's on tv more than any other nba player. if he chooses ny it means he's an egomaniac who doesn't care about winning. but then again, if he didn't care about winning he might as well stay in cleveland. if he cares about winning he goes to the bulls.
If Lebron signs with NY doesnt he lose out on 30mil if Cleveland doesnt do a sign and trade? So, for Lebron to pick NY tomorrow ... there must be a sign n trade in place already, unless Lebron is just leaving to NY. I think Lebron is going to stay in Cleveland
We're probably around the same age. I remember the Bulls/Knicks, Pacers/Knicks rivalries very clearly. The Knicks were NEVER a top franchise. They had the perception of being a top franchise because they played in NY. Put the Pacers, Blazers, Sonics, Suns (all equally good, smaller market teams) just to name a few in NY in that same era and there would be a special aura around them as well. We're not 14, 15 or 16 anymore. That was a very long time ago if you really think about it even though it seems like yesterday.
No, I don't think we're the same age. Do you remember the 1969-70 season? The Knicks went 60-22 and won the title against the Lakers in 7 games. The Pacers and the Blazers didn't exist. The Suns went 39-43 and the Sonics went 36-46. The season and Finals MVP was Willis Reed of the Knickerbockers. I'm not going out of my way to give you a hard time (well, maybe a little), but you just don't go that far back.
NY fans are arguably the most knowledgeable in the NBA. the team has been EMBARRASSING and yet they still draw like 90%+ capacity (despite fairly expensive tickets). and you're playing at MSG. look at tracy's first game back last year. that game had playoff like atmosphere for a player playing his first significant minutes of the year. you think that would happen anywhere else? lebron understands this. most superstars know this. they understand the feeling of playing in a packed house at MSG. and i'm sure they love it.
if you follow lebron, you know he cares deeply about winning. and he wants to win b/c he wants to be known as a transcendent player, and the best of all time. right now, NY or chicago would be the best situations for him. NY has a legit #2 guy in amare (w/ gallanari + chandler as budding players), i don't know why people think if he chooses NY, he doesn't care about winning. NY will spend. they have a legit top 4 players if lebron does sign. the things they lack are: size + bench. NY will spend to upgrade. now they have the superstars, the other pieces will fall.
well as a new yorker, i accept the title of most knowledgeable in the NBA. all the things new york has going for it, chicago has too. chicago sold out during the khalid el-amin/aj guyton years in chicago. those fans are just as rabid. and, they have a team which is better equipped to win now. if he cares about winning, chicago is the place. if its about adoration i believe he will get that anywhere, but no more than staying in cleveland. just my opinion though, we'll find out tomorrow.
basketball-wise, how would he fit w/ rose? he's a scoring PG, not a distributing PG. that wouldn't be a good fit. lebron's a smart player and he knows this. NY w/ amare + gallanari + chandler + i'm sure walsh will sign more => also a potentially great team. him + amare provides a better 1-2 punch.
Here's a Baltimore-area sports guy claiming his legit sources say Lebron stays in Cleveland and its a done deal... I'd say don't believe anything you hear right now. http://www.masnsports.com/the_sports_junkies/2010/07/lebron-will-stay-in-cleveland.html
