Caserio hired David Culley. If that isn’t the biggest red flag there is... I guess the real question is whether or not he was Nick’s choice or Jack’s choice. I had no real issue with the Nick C hire just the process involved but now...jeesh. David Culley? Really?
I can try and shed some light for the OP since one of our very close friends is about as high up in the McNair Foundation as you can get without actually being a McNair: - Yes, Janice is just as enamored by Jack as Cal. She is very much complicit in the "culture" shift that's being installed at NRG. - Cary wants nothing to do with the Texans. In fact, he's very irritated by the way the entire situation has unfolded. He is 100% focused on managing the family wealth through the McNair Foundation, and has been very aggressive in acquiring properties around the Med Center to help create a McNair Medical Network of sorts. He's found it increasingly difficult to separate himself from the Texans during this period, and he's not pleased. As such, he's very different from his brother. The sisters are more similar to Cal in their demeanor however.
Ya I just can't get on board that Janice McNair is going to step in and force a change, especially one that removes her son from his position regardless of how it is done.
Yup unfortunately it looks like Caserio has jumped right into line. But these guys have only dealt with internal factors that they have full control over so far. Don't like the player? Ship him out. Don't like the employee? Fire them. DW4 wants out? Nope we're not trading him. Free agency will be the first "test" so to speak. If the feedback is just awful, which I don't see how it won't be, it will come down to building a roster vs. backing up your buddy. Hell maybe it won't be and players just sign to the highest bidder as many do. But I do think there is a better shot at this than Janice stepping in.
It has to be a Jack and Cal special with Nick understanding what the deal is. Head coach who is almost 70, never had a HC job before and wasn't an in-demand coordinator so his financial demands would be less than Frazier, similarly "strong" Christian like Jack and Cal, need someone to hold down the fort until they are able to get their ideal HC. Gotta figure Nick was convinced about it so joined in with the other musketeers on this.
thanks for the info, this makes sense unfortunately, except for a handful of things this is the most interesting they have been since their inception.
Janice met with David Culley before he was hired. He won her over and she signed off on his hire. She's complicit in everything that's happening at NRG.
I guess we ALL miss Bob McNair, flaws and all. A businessman like he was would not be taken in by a Charlatan like Easterby.
What's worse is that in the coming years, we will think of the time when O'Brien was coach as the good old days. Its amazing how quickly this organization has fallen. Might as well go all out and rename the team the Zealots.
Yup unfortunately it looks like Caserio jumped right into line. But right now these guys are only dealing with internal forces that they have full control over. Don't like the player? Trade him. Don't like the employee? Fire them. DW4 wants out? Nah not trading him. Free Agency will be the first "test" for Caserio in that there is a good chance players simply won't want to play here and Caserio won't have any control over that. It's not for sure because NFL FA is more about going to the highest bidder than anything else but to me this is the first shot Caserio (and maybe Cal) figure out it's either about building the roster or keeping Easterby, it can't be both under the circumstances.
Janice has got them out of the 30's at #27. "McNair took over ownership after his father died during the 2018 season. The Texans went to the playoffs that season and the next before descending into one of the most chaotic periods any franchise has endured over a three-season run. Stability finally appears to have arrived with Ryans taking over as coach and C.J. Stroud in place as the starting quarterback." https://theathletic.com/5115078/2023/12/08/nfl-owners-ranking-32-teams/
Maybe the Texans will be this century's Steelers. The Steelers were one of the most poorly run franchise's for nearly 40 years until they hired Chuck Noll in '69 and had the single greatest draft in NFL history in '74. Over their first 37 seasons, they had only 6 winning records and made the playoffs ONCE. In the 51 seasons since they've only had 7 losing records and haven't gone more than 3 seasons without making the playoffs and won 6 Super Bowls.
Oops, yeah I did mean Hannah. Got them mixed up while searching for an existing thread. Didn't want to create a new one.
