will be embarrassing if they go through months of gathering evidence, claim they have enough to indict, and then don’t

    it must happen

Democrats look moronic focusing on this old partisan attack instead of tackling the issue that is decimating the lower and middle classes -- INFLATION.

    Opinion
It’s almost as if Democrats are trying to make sure Trump wins in 2024

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/opin...-democrats-are-trying-ensure-trump-wins-2024/

    excerpt:

Biden’s serial catastrophes are creating the perfect conditions for a Trump comeback. Democrats know it and are starting to panic. The New York Times reports that many party members now see Biden “as an anchor that should be cut loose in 2024.” Instead of blaming the disasters his left-wing policies unleashed, they blame his failure to pass even more “big-ticket legislation on signature Democratic issues” for his unpopularity — as if more spending leading to more inflation would have made him more popular.

Wrong. The problem is Biden’s failure to deliver on the central promise of his campaign, which was to restore normalcy, reach across the aisle, compromise and unite the country behind a moderate, bipartisan agenda. Americans voted for Biden expecting him to hew a centrist course, not to impose a radical progressive agenda on the nation. Unless Democrats are ready to change those policies and move to the center, getting rid of Biden won’t make a difference.

But Democrats seem unwilling to do that. Instead, they are focusing on the events of Jan. 6, 2021, in an effort to re-toxify Trump for the electorate. Never mind that the Senate already held bipartisan hearings and issued a bipartisan report on the events of that day, in addition to Trump’s impeachment hearings and trial. The Democrat-run committee, by holding its first prime-time hearing on the Capitol riot last week, sent the American people a clear signal: Democrats consider this the single most important issue facing the country — more important than inflation, record gas prices, the border catastrophe, the crime wave or the baby formula shortage. Americans can be forgiven for asking: Why are these people rehashing Jan. 6 when I have to choose between filling my gas tank and feeding my family?

The answer is: Because they want to remind voters how much they hate Trump. Sorry, but that won’t be enough when every visit to the gas station and grocery store reminds them why they dislike Biden. If Democrats change their candidate without changing their policies, then they are paving the way for the 45th president to become the 47th.

Yes Biden is so focussed on Jan. 6th that he isn't going to Saudi Arabia to try to negotiate for lower oil prices. Hasn't been pushing for more arms for Ukraine, or get more baby formula into the country.

If anything Biden's Administration especially his DOJ is doing too little regarding the events of Jan 6 or Trump.

Just like Chapo Guzman had to be extradited in order to be tried for criminal acts , we would probably have to extradite Trump to the Hague or some place to try him. HIs followers as some say on TV are willing to die for him

67% of Americans are Antifa loving wokesters who shouldn't be allowed to vote anyway. We need to focus on the 33% of true Americans who love their country (That is they love Donald Trump).

It's a lose-lose for the administration. Don't pursue it, you look weak and they can do it again. Pursue it, and you look political.

My biggest fear is when the GOP takes both houses (and likely the WH) again they're going to investigate nonsense. Like imagine all your QAnon believing Reps from the Bible Belt holding congressional hearings about a rumor they heard on 4Chan, all while Trump (or DeSantis) rallies voters and state AGs strip religious freedom, voting protections, consumer protections (McConnell's fave to gut), and minority civil rights with the packed SCOTUS. The base will eat it up and bark like seals, the rich donors get their tax cuts, and the left/media focuses on whatever dumb circus the WH cooks up.

In short, the next GOP held Congress and WH are going to be nothing more than puppetry while the REAL power players (McConnell, religious leaders) make bank.

Prosecuting Trump: Being a jerk isn’t criminal

    https://thehill.com/opinion/judiciary/3532548-prosecuting-trump-being-a-jerk-isnt-criminal/

    excerpt:

“SECVNDINVS CACOR." When those words were found recently on an ancient stone in Northumberland, England, there was great excitement about what might be revealed about Roman life in the 3rd Century. As it turned out, the painstakingly chiseled words (which were accompanied by the image of a giant phallus) simply said that a guy named Secundinus was ... well ... human fecal matter.

The stone was an impressive effort just to establish for all posterity that Secundinus was a jerk.

The House Select Committee investigating the Jan. 6 riot is an equally impressive effort to painstakingly debunk election fraud claims and to show how former President Donald Trump refused to accept his electoral defeat. If the purpose were to proclaim "TRUMPUS CACOR," it would likely get little argument, given the testimony about elected officials and election workers hiding out in their homes after being called out by name by the then-president.

The hearings have created a lasting, damning record leading up to Jan. 6. Yet, some members of the select committee have claimed they have established clear evidence of criminal acts by Trump. It has to be more than Rep. Liz Cheney’s (R-Wyo.) insistence that the evidence would show Trump was not "an honorable man" on Jan. 6 — an assertion that even some Trump supporters might endorse.

That claim is important to avoid confirmation of what was widely reported before the hearings. According to The New York Times, the hearings were framed with the intent to use the select committee largely to “recast the midterm message” and “give [Democrats] a platform for making a broader case about why they deserve to stay in power.” In other words, chiseling out “Trumpus Cacor” before the November election.

The fact is that this evidence is important for Americans to hear and see. Yet, the claims of established crimes this week seemed to run from the visceral to the recreational.

On CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront,” Harvard law professor Laurence Tribe declared that Trump can now be charged with the attempted murder of former Vice President Mike Pence “without any doubt, beyond a reasonable doubt, beyond any doubt, and the crimes are obvious.” In addition to declaring that he is certain Attorney General Merrick Garland will now charge Trump, Tribe said: “There are other crimes that have been proven. Those are plenty to start with.”

Obviously, it is nonsensical to claim that Trump could be charged with attempted murder. However, the evidence presented does undermine Trump’s claim that he truly believed that the election was stolen when he pressured state and federal officials to block certification of the election.

    ***
The select committee may still have the smoking-gun evidence of a criminal conspiracy. However, if the committee hopes to do more than declare Trump a modern-day Secundinus, it still has to prove that he is a criminal.

If somebody broke the law, prosecute them.

If somebody used the law to do something shitty (or tried to), fix the law.

Dems keep falling into the trap of making things about Trump which only 1) increases his mindshare and 2) makes a martyr out of him.

Jan 6 footage is going to make wonderful anti-Republican advertisements in Summer of 2024.

Eh it will be old news by summer of 2024. I see it on ads now, but most people have their mind already made up. I really don't think political independents exist anymore. It usually takes something extreme (think the Roy Moore election) to sway voters. Sadly, supporting Jan 6th rioters isn't a deal breaker for many.

If you want to really rile voters up, find a Republican who supports stealing from a Target in Minnesota. That apparently is a crime worthy of public execution in some voters eyes.
