a switch to shooting threes only from the corner can do that. honestly, that's all he should do. Fill lanes on fastbreaks, be a shooter or cutter from the corners, and stay out of the way. And if he can't (or won't) play defense or rebound, just call it a mistake and bench him, like Faried got benched, once he got sore and tired after his initial Manimal mini-tour
I wouldn't be surprised if Blake gets his first dunk in years within his first 10 shots. He'll set a high pick for Harden, get a good running start, and Harden will hit him with a pass out of a double team. Blake will get a long runway and an open lane since defenders stay home to their shooters, and he'll get his first dunk.
How the heck can a guy who used to dunk and lobbed dunked (per CP3) as a routine haven't been able to dunk the in the last year or so? Motivation, injuries or both?
Have you seen him run? He can't. His knees are shot. NBA who made their living with athlecism don't age well when their knees go out. Amare come to mind. Zion Williamson will follow that path if he doesn't keep his weight in check.
He isn't that athletic anymore. Injuries coupled with getting older.... he had a really bad injury when he was in college, then another when he entered the league and now another one a year or two ago. At some point it is enough to really stop him.
Not just that when he was still healthy in Lob City he would have impromptu dunk contests in practice so imagine the additional toll that put on his legs over time. As they say youth is wasted on the young. Kinda sad but we all know your post is gonna apply to Zion word for word in a couple of years as well...
Makes it all the more amazing how long Vince Carter lasted. Jumping out of the gym for years and years, developed a good J to stay relevant and on court, still had hops all the way to the end IIRC.
That might be true but whose shots will he be taking and do they need another guy to shoot from the perimeter?
He'd open up the floor for Harden/Irving penetrations and give more space for the Harden + DJ/Claxton PnRs. Griffin is still very much the 4th option, but it'd be hard to justify leaving him wide open.
Open up the floor more than Green? what does he do for defense and rebounding? The reason why a stretch 5 is a thing is because they can still serve a purpose on defense, Blake serves no purpose on defense, Green shoots better can finish at the rim and also is a lob threat. Just being a 38% shooter does not make the Nets better, they have 3 other guys who shoot better and can actually do other things. Blake is not playing with another big.
I'm not saying Blake is better than Green. But if he can fill in for Green, that's great. Irving / Shamet Harden / Brown Harris / Green Durant / Griffin Jordan / Claxton That's a solid 10-man rotation without even considering TLC and Tyler Johnson.
What I am saying is that TLC and Johnson do more for that team as well as Green. So you are forcing Blake into the rotation why? I'm gonna just wait and see because I hope he has a resurgence but he looks washed.
You think TLC and Johnson > Griffin? Come on, man. That's a huge stretch. The Nets' GM hasn't seemed to have made a misstep all year - I don't think they'd sign Griffin without an obvious reason why. Maybe it turns out to be a Carmelo-to-Rockets situation, where things sour after a few games. But Blake could also be the stability the Nets need in the frontcourt. Who knows.
