Even if you have good scouts, they have to know what type of player types Stephen Silas is going to want. I am still not sure, other than him wanting to make Wood a new Porzingis.
So, what we need to happen is pretty obvious. Hopefully the Bucks, Heat, Celtics, whoever can knock the Nets out the next few years and KD bails, Harden probably bails as well and the Nets are stuck with nothing. Not even their draft picks. Can they fail? Well, I can certainly see a scenario where Kyrie is hurt (or not around...) and James is playoff James leaving Durant to carry the team by himself... OH and they have no center. I mean, there is Jordan but he's been garbage this season so there is that too.
Oh, I'd rather have many other deals that make us better now. Philly deal, Miami deal, or Boston but I don't think the latter two teams were ever in it and Morey loves Maxey more than he loved the idea of getting Harden so this might have been the best we could do.
So many thoughts... A complete tear down with a ton of draft picks. I wanted better but the good thing about this trade is 2022 and 2023 drafts will have star potential and are deep. Rockets have their own picks and can have a little more control over how high they draft those 2 years. One of the hardest things to do once you draft a stud is continue to get players to build around them. So, with Nets eventually sucking and us having their unprotected picks (and/or swaps) we will have plenty of chances to do that or even draft another star (or our first star if 2022 or 2023 doesn't pan out). This year is no doubt a lost year, so getting what we can with our current roster for 2022 + is critical. We have now moved in the OKC bucket of teams that will try to just stack picks and young players. It is going to be a HARD next few years, but now the direction of the organization is clear.
I know it is. I'm just broken this time. I've never been sad over a trade before. I've been furious. (CP3 for Russ)) I've been curious (Russ for Wall) I've been excited (trade for Harden) but I've never been sad. This is awful. The worst trade package i could have imagined.
If you want those picks to have even more upside you need to root for the Nets to fail and implode, the sooner the better.
We received a return similar to Jrue Holiday. For James Harden. Maybe they want to stay competitive the year we will almost assuredly swap with OKC.
If Oladipo gets healthy he can get traded for higher value than Levert. Allen is for money BUT he could be overpaid in FA so at least you get a stable asset in the 2022 pick. We could never get a superstar back like Harden but we got so many delicious picks. After 2022, all these BKN picks are potentially high lottery.
