he shoulda played in the fiba world series and be the team's kobe. let edwards be the 2nd fiddle, and for once be the main man on a championship team. would do wonders for his mental health. plus, hot filipino tails.
A real coach who had absolutely no defensive ideas/schemes and never managed to go very far in the playoffs. At the end of the day, Dantoni was just as much of a failure as McHale who had worse teams and a younger Harden + injured Howard. Everyone likes to denigrate McHale, but the fact is he wasn’t that bad and nobody after him got any further in playoffs either.
If you are saying that Dantoni is just as much of a failure as McHale, I'm sorry but you are factually incorrect. Most players, analysts or anyone who works in the league who knows anything worth a damn would disagree with you. Dantoni has had way more success as a coach in the playoffs. Any time a Dantoni team has lost, it has always been to the eventual champions or someone who would have been champions otherwise(Kawhi got injured).
Who did McHale lose to? The GSW — thought that might have been the comeback year for Cle. I love the u ubiquitous and unprovable “fact.” What is a fact is that, like everyone said for MDA entire career, it works in the regular season but not in the playoffs. And the FACT is, he only made the conference finals — as did McHale. Ergo, they equally failed to take their squads all the way. mDA also had better teams at every coaching stop. He had an older, stronger Harden AND CP3. McHale had Chandler Parsons, J Lin and an injured Howard. Is McHale a better coach? No. Are they both equally limited coaches? Absolutely. But for some reason everyone just wants to **** on McHale, despite him being the ONLY guy in the league with the balls to bench Harden when he went into his playoff disappearing act.
Lol what? You're reaching here. D'Antoni's a 2 x coach of the year, over a decade apart and on different teams. He's also won championships as a coach overseas. With the Suns he had 4 consecutive 50 game seasons, 2 conference finals appearances with them. With us he lead us to a 65 win season and his coach of the year 55 win season. Western conference finals, best winning percentage in Franchise history. But sure, McHale's definitely the same calibre of coach...
He literally said in his last post that MDA's the better coach... To his point, both MDA and MilkHair had the same end results as Rockets coaches - a WCF loss to GSW.
GS with Durant and 2015 GS are not the same teams. Durant GS was pretty much sweeping every other playoffs team until they met the Rockets who had a 3-2 lead until Paul went down.
Not the KD Warriors. It is a fact. No one with an ounce of basketball knowledge would ever tell you differently. The Suns would have won had Robert Horry had not hip checked Nash nor if Cp3 would have gotten hurt. It works in the playoffs. Sometimes you dont have the personnel to win. Was he the best defensive coach no. But he improved on that over time. .I see the whole "if you dont win a ring, it doesnt matter." This is really bad take man, Im sorry. You are just making sweeping statements without taking into account what actually happend or who the competition was. And then what happend after that? Dantoni has been sucessful at multiple places, NO ONE has hired Mchale anywhere except NBA TV. Benching Harden, doesnt mean he and Dantoni are anywhere close, I'm sorry.
Same caliber? No. But equally as unproductive when it mattered? Yes. MDA is the king of the regular season and a one/trick pony. And when you’re known for being a one-sided coach, you’re not that good of a coach. His teams were always terrible on defense, he didn’t care about it, and that’s why he’s an overrated, subpar coach.
Not true, he started caring about it when he coached the Rockets. Your opinion is based on narrative bias and isnt substantiated by anything meaningful
He started caring about the other half of the game over midway through his career? Wow. What a coach.
Touché But the Rockets 2015 vs 2018 rosters were also not the same - 2018 roster was also substantially improved. Dwight v Capela J Smith v Tucker Ariza v Ariza Harden v Harden J Terry v CP3 Bench: T Jones v EGo Brewer v G Green Prigioni I would just argue that Milkhair did more with the 2015 roster - he exceeded expectations. MDA's roster met expectations and would have exceeded expectations if it wasnt for CP's hamstring or the Ref's handing GSW game 7 on a silver platter.
