I had intended to ask this assuming exact same contract held by both.

I like Horford. A lot. I love Harden. A lot more.

Harden's career stats are what? hehe. We are talking about relatively young players. Their career stats will misrepresent them until they get past their prime.

Al Horford is a very good defender. He doesn't block many shots and he's a big PF rather than a center. But he's very good on that end, it would be a shame if he doesn't make an all-defense team at least once in his career considering some of the players (with flashier stats) that get selected for those teams.
He also has a solid range, a very good passer and a ball handler for a big man.

All Star because of the East? Well, I'd definitely want him on my team over the West all star David Lee and quite a few other West all stars from the past few years.

I don't know why very good players always seem to turn into role players when they are mentioned in the same sentence as Harden, hehe.
Harden may be more valuable but Horford is very good.

well of course no one would trade harden for horford, but isn't the context of the question who would fit better with cp3 and howard?

You can site how he played with westbrook and durant, but doesn't this past season show that harden was underutilized in OKC with a ball dominating point guard?

With a cp3/howard duo, all you would really need out of your 2 guard is 3 point shooting and defense (no surprise here, since every team is looking for this for their 2 guard.)

Finding that is much easier and cheaper than to find a do it all PF/C who is pretty much outside of (love, lma, lebron, melo) one of the best fits next to howard?

On top of that he can guard stretch 4s on the perimeter! Horford is one of the better high post players, can guard multiple positions, does all of the little things that doesn't show up on the stat sheet.

And seriously to the guy who says the fact that horford doesn't block shots is indicative of him being a poor defender... To this guy, I say : WHO CARES??? Can Asik Block shots?

Harden is a top 5-10 player in the NBA at 23 years old.

Horford is 27 years old. That's well past the age when players typically improve -- in fact, it's usually the peak. He is who he is.

The reason very good players "seem to turn into role players" when compared to Harden is because there are a few ungrateful whiners in this forum who seem determined to undermine the best thing to happen to this franchise in over 10 years. Horford has value, but if someone has the nerve to compare him to Harden, his flaws are going to get picked apart.

...does anyone really think Horford is a better player than Harden now? If you're building a new team complete from a fresh slate and for your first slot you have to choose between Horford and Harden, who on earth would choose Horford?

You don't choose the lesser player just because you think maybe he'll fit better with the other star players you're hoping to get. You get as many stars as possible, and then find a way to get them to play together. That's how the league works.

Why is this even the question? Cp3 and Howard can't both go to Houston...only Atlanta has enough cap space.

Because some of us believe Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin would get deals significantly richer than $16.5 million/2 years if they were on the open market.

Harden had 30 and 40 point games playing with Westbrook and Durant so they didn't effect his usefulness. And CP3 shared the ball with Billups and Bledsoe, and if you think Crawford doesn't get time with the ball too _ you're trippin... They would work great together and if anything CP3 will induce Harden to shoot more and score more by taking pressure off him of running the offense. To easy for the defense to key in on Harden when he's the one constantly initiating the offense.

Hard to win a championship with a couple of big men and no star wing player. CP3 may as well stay in LA because that's what he has with the Clippers. And look at Memphis. San Antonio put the brooms to em.

But, if CP3 and Howard don't do their homework (like you didn't do when you started this thread), yea I could see them going to Atlanta. But I don't think CP3 is leaving LA and Clippers management is sacrificing goats and cows and praying to the gods to keel him.

That peak is high. With Love out and Aldridge having a bad year, he was as good as any PF this year. He should've been an All Star.

I mean, I think what you say in this post is fair enough.
But you called him a glorified role player, non all star, not worth the cap hit at 12 mil, etc. That's a pretty extreme view, hehe.

Dude your conclusion is right. Not arguing. Read my other posts.

But yo can't compare the Rockets and Hawks record with diifetent coaching staff, starting 5 and role players and just say Harden is the lead man and Horford is the lead man, and Rockets have a better record therefore Harden is better.

You can and I also do conclude Harden is better from a lot of other angles, but this is not one.

Otherwise you could argue a lot of players were better than Kobe in the Lakers lean years
