The only violation on that play was of PG's emotions.

I honestly don't see the violation. The "step back hesitation" move with the in and out dribble is nasty and legal. His off hand never touched the ball. He used the in and out dribble so he did not carry. I'm teaching my sons that move as a counter when guys close extra hard on their step backs. What am I missing?

No way the refs are quick enough to catch that. The ball would have already been through the hoop before they realized what they though they saw.

Surprised New York didnt take the basket away during the next timeout.

the actual carry when his hand is under the ball haha

but there's not an angle for the refs to see that in that instant and real team you could probably say 9/10 times this wouldn't be called

In and out dribbles are technically carries. The refs just let them go.

Ha. I'm watching it in slow motion and it still looks like his hand was on the side of the ball to me. You are correct though. A ref would never catch that in real time.

Curry never gets called for it and he uses it often

He even touched it with both hands vs LeBron in the finals and he still got away with it lol.

yeah plenty of guys use that type of dribble. in slow motion it just makes it look worse

unless its completely blatant and awkward, players are generally safe from hesi's and in and out dribbles

I used to think that. But I never see it called. Kemba Walker has mastered it.

Then Kawhi needs to be called every time he dribbles because he obviously palms the ball, so does PG13.

Perfectly legal move. Inside out dribble with right hand, then quick crossover with left hand. It looked funny because of the quick/tap crossover and not the drawn out one that we’re use to seeing.

That’s a simple shot hesi, not sure if you ever played but that a pretty common move. Nothing illegal about it.

Great post, like you said it’s a great counter when the defense is leaning forward on the step back. They’re done and you got a lane to the basket.

Good to see Harder running away with 538 RAPTOR rankings this season.

The NBA rule book says: "A player who is dribbling may not put any part of his hand under the ball and (1) carry it from one point to another or (2) bring it to a pause and then continue to dribble again."

I guess maybe you could argue it's not a violation because he didn't carry the ball from "one point to another" with his hand under the ball, nor was there much of a "pause" in his dribble. It was pretty fluid.

Imagine calling a palming violation in the NBA
