This is what I'm getting tired of. If we beat the Warriors, the last thing I want is discussion on what that means to the MVP race vs the title race. If we beat the Warriors, our primary discussion should be how that elevates our title chances, not Hardens MVP chances.

Don't mean to say the MVP talk wouldn't be nice ... but it should be very much be an after thought and secondary to the glory of such a huge regular season win...meaning we are pulling together as a team and integrating Lou while having the fortitude to sustain an injury to a key starter,,,which also likely means we played 48 minutes of sustained playoff-level intensity like we did against Cleveland.

Wins Matter ... for OUR SEASON,,,dangit. Focus rockets fans

In fact, if the damn discussion in the media would turn to how important of a win that was and how Rockets are really making a case for being the scariest team approaching the playoffs, that narrative will actually be the best thing to happen for Hardens MVP chances. It will take care of itself. Conversely, if the headlines and main points treat it as just another look at individual stats and just another win ... ppl can just say it proves Harden has better teammates whereas WB has to bring heroics and game winners just to beat the Mavs. Ugh

Let it go. It's playoff time and we need this win. And we need to cherish it for a great team victory. Dont do it injustice by making the effects it has on the MVP race your personal main storyline during the game, afterwards and when you wake up. As Bev says, "that's disrespecting the game." :D

You're right, hp! I almost lost myself in the malaise of MVP talk and disappointing pundit opinions... I disrespected my fanhood and the fandom...

    smh.. unlike... unlike...

(we'll pick this back up in 24 hours)

Yeah, you're right, but I just feel like everyone's driving this narrative and people are lapping it up, but hopefully you're right and cooler heads will prevail. :)

It's not about hating Westbrook. He's having a great season. But he's not the MVP and it's not even close. By no standard ever would he even be higher than the 3rd place vote getter. Harden is clearly the favorite.

And it is not about hating or being MVP.

Russ should get another award, a consolation prize for averaging a triple double, most likely achieving 40 or more triple doubles in one season.

    That itself is spectacular.

No he shouldn't. He'll be remembered for averaging a triple double just like Oscar Robertson is. We don't need to create trophies for everyone so they feel like they won something.

Harden is definitely the MVP but all the hate is so unwarranted. I don't understand why everybody is so scared to enjoy greatness

Anyone of you pessimists who think Westbrook will win MVP willing to make a friendly wager on the matter?

I don't get why a player should be awarded when he's clearly boosting his numbers...Lebron, Harden, Paul, Giannis, Curry, Durant and probably others can easily make a triple double season if their teammates let them get EIGHT freaking rebounds per game (and while not playing defense 90% of the game which is pathetic)...hell, even Rondo would easily get a triple double this way on that ugly ass enviroment which is Chicago...and you want to award this ****? I'm not even sure that should still be considered basketball in the first place.

People are defensive because the media has really jumped on the Westbrook for MVP narrative and the reasons are either hypocritical or ludicrous. I think everyone can appreciate the historical aspect of his numbers but it should be clear that the MVP is Harden's.

Media alienated casual fans long ago when it comes to Harden. Made him a pariah amongst them. All because of that defense video.

...and the excuse they will come up with is inconsistent defensive effort.

I think winning the MVP helps the Rockets for next season. Harden would be the most sought after teamates to play with behind LeBron. The Rockets will have a higher chance of having the first dibs on the best shooters in the league.

the man was guarding Steph Curry and decided to stop so he could camp in the paint for a potential rebound...
