    Thanks

Howard beck is one of the better guys in the business.

He really gets it and understands bakstball as well as history of the game.

That's the best argument for Harden's MVP case that I've ever heard all year.

Yup but again this has to be one of the easiest seasons to win regular season MVP.

The only guy who has the numbers, is going reckless and stats pad like crazy.

Although his team would be minimally better if WB just pass it to Roberson, Oladipo or the likes..... he would have to play an inside out game with the bigs.

LBJ, Durant, Curry do not have their best year.

But James Harden's rise in assists has to fall back on MDA and his O system.... that is a fair thing to say.

If the journalists think the majority of praise should go to the Coach and not the player himself, I cannot argue against that. In terms of assist numbers both have been great.

This could be a clear Co MVP situation because people have different opinions on how an MVP should look like. I do not mind the situation because the MVP award would be secured.

Only other way would be if WB does not achieve OR's Triple Double record or average a Triple Db.

Absolutely flawless. Hilarious how sad Howard Beck made that host.

someone's been keeping track of points accounted for (pts + pts assisted on) which proves how dominant harden has been because he's on track to have the most points accounted for in nba history. the thing about the stat makes me think we need a "true assist" count to account for 3's like we have "true shooting" to account for 3's (and ft's). harden is leading the league in assists and presumably doing it while getting a ton of 3 point assists. and obviously 3 point assists are harder to come by by virtue of the lower field goal percentage on 3's and obviously more valuable because they are worth 3 instead of 2.

i realize we obviously keep track of points assisted on, but it's probably not as "sexy" as true assists would be because true assists per game would look more like assists per game we're used to. just take points assisted for and divide by 2. something tells me harden's lead in assists would look even greater. and make his case even better. people see westbrook close to him in assists and slightly more ahead in rebounds and don't realize harden is assisting for even more points than it appears. or maybe this is already widely used.

Seems like OKC gonna have another L in Dallas tonight. So the MVP race should be pretty clear now. If we can beat Warrior tmr, I think it will be locked to James.

Westbrook is getting stomped by the 31-41 Mavs, but he barely got his triple double so his MVP case is enhanced in the eyes of some people.

this is the world that we're living in...

You're forgetting that Westbrook got his triple double tho. This L only helps his MVP case according to some fools in the media. Poor little Westbrook just has no help. :(

James Harden was named Western Conference Player of the Week. It's the fourth time this season he's won the award. Harden averaged 33 points, 13.3 assists and 6.3 rebounds per game last week as the Rockets went 3-0.

I think what you're described is Adjusted Assists, which they track on stats.nba.com (man, online stats have come a LONG way in the last 10 years).

A stat I'd be interested in isn't Adjusted Assists, but rather the percentage of teammate's points a player assisted on while on the floor. Not sure if that stat is available somewhere for easily ranking players, but it's easy to figure out:

    AssistedPoints% = PointsAssisted / ( TmPtsOn - PointsScored )

Westbrook is literally destroying the Thunder one triple-double at a time. The style in which he plays makes NOBODY around him better. But idiots in the media and the general population only care about what the box score says, and have so little understanding of the actual sport that nobody can identify that. It's even more disappointing when you have former players like McGrady, Billups, and Rose all falling for the numbers without understanding how they're actually coming.
