Here is the bottom line. The moment Durant left OKC, media needed a story to roll with for the next few seasons.

    1. Durant left OKC because he didn't think WB was good enough to win with.
    2. Westbrook needs to show Durant that he was not the problem.
    3. WB MVP suggests WB is indeed good enough. Meanwhile Durant wins the Championship. So both have been vindicated.
    4. A WB MVP makes the whole storyline so much better than James Harden winning MVP at which point the story is dead.

Narrative was set months ago. Now the storyline is playing out.

130+ pages of suckers falling for this drama left, right and center. Suckers lining up giving media views, hits, clicks etc. Suckers investing lots of their energy on this.

Winner: National Basketball Association and the Media

Tom Byrne is slaying these Russ nuthuggers for 2 hrs straight on NBA radio.

    It's freaking awesome.

Basically telling everyone what we all say here.

    Harden is just better.

Makes his teammates better, easier to play with more NBA players would rather play with him.

And the best one I heard.

If Russ can't win with KD he can't win with anyone.

Also slaying the detractors that say houston has better supporting cast.

It's pretty funny how mad it's making some of theses callers.

Also the new argument for Westbrook is that they've beaten every elite team once...

Yeah, I guess the Rockets haven't. It really shows you how much attention these types pay to the Rockets. We've beat the Spurs, Cavs, Warriors, Celtics too.

They know that we've beaten all these elite teams, but mentioning that would prop up Harden's case too much. Their tactic has been to praise Westbrook for every little thing and gloss over/not mention the things that Harden has done.

The agenda was made clear when clowns like Chris Broussard said that the Rockets being on a 55 win pace hurts Harden's case and all Westbrook had to do was make the playoffs.

Yeah, Bayless has been citing that for a while now. Which is stupid. The Thunder lost at home to the Hornets the other day. They got demolished in Washington by the Wizards. Do those games no longer count? Are we supposed to be impressed they needed miracle comebacks to beat the Mavs and Magic?

Another tactic by the media has been to try and act like Harden and Westbrook are close when it comes to efficiency since that's 1 of Harden's biggest advantages over Russ. Yesterday we had some dude talking about "adjusted TS%" and everybody wants to compare their FG% instead of comparing their TS%.

Never mind that they just got demolished by Harden and the Rockets a couple weeks ago. Remember when that was this huge showdown that would factor heavily into the MVP race? It's almost like that game never happened now.

It has never been about wins or H2H for Russell. It's all about the triple-double.

And if he didn't get the T-D, he was an assist/rebound or two shy so it's close so we'll kinda sorta make it count anyways.
And if they won, it was Russell leading them to victory.
And if they lost, Russell clearly didn't have enough help.
So Russell was the victor no matter what.

And for Harden, they're just better off coming out & saying they don't like Harden.

    They don't like his beard.
They don't like his style of play.
He's not flashy or a high flyer like Westbrook & LeBron
They don't like he's not in the pregame huddle.
    They don't like his personality.
They don't like his off-court life.
Whatever it is they don't like about him...

than saying He has too much help! He's inflated by D'Antoni! He's winning too much! and all the other bullshit they keep trying to throw at the wall & make stick.

And next year we'll need to recognize the 2-way greatness of Kawhi Leonard /or/ a Warrior will be in the mix. The too much help argument will be long forgotten.

Yeah, I believe this. And it comes down to the "aesthetics" of how Westbrook plays (versus Harden). Harden is methodical in his play and efficient. Westbrook plays violently. That violence sizzles for social media and TV. And that violence makes it "APPEAR" that Westbrook plays harder than Harden. It also artificially makes Westbrook APPEAR to play better defense than Harden.

Howard Beck. #RedNationHero He is a MVP voter. If you are on twitter, tweet out the below tweet.

"MVP award has historically gone to someone that is not only great "individually" but an anchor of a great team."

"It is BOTH "individual excellence" and 'team success'"

"'Team success' has been 50 wins or more for every MVP over the last 30+ years"

"The MVP has never been "just" about 'the player.'"

"There has been a standard historically, and I believe that standard matters" - Howard Beck

If Durant doesn't get hurt, it would've been between him and Westbrook. Harden wouldn't have a dog in this race.
