you can obviously see that the team fandom vs player idolization views in conflict now.
Harden winning the MVP is not better that the Rockets winning the title or even making the Finals.
However, this belief is not shared by most.

Tracy McGrady hitting a bunch of jumpers in 35 seconds against the Spurs is not better than the Spurs winning 5 championships when Tracy McGrady was still playing.

There's a natural trade off huh? Not in Westbrook's case...

It's more than that though. I've said it before: Perception Matters. These guys shape a player's legacy.

Are we just going to ignore harden's football kit, in his latest interview? That's Benfica!

those guys need to stick to football. Even Shannon's argument was terrible. He mistakenly said we finished 6th last season when we finished 8th.

Harden seems to be heading towards being the next Chris Paul. All-time great player who will largely be overlooked compared to his era's counterparts.

    Agreed.

However, How many times have you argued the legitimacy of the Rockets championships?

How many times have you argued yourself hoarse telling other fans that the Rockets owned the Bulls in the regular season and would have won in the finals if MJ was in the league or got passed the Sonics?

    Perception.

Rockets fans sound like lunatics to the outside basketball fandom because of perception.

Because these guys have shaped the way people think, Rockets fans can't even have full satisfaction of Houston titles.

Look at TO, one of the best wide receivers ever, and he can't get in the HOF over criminals because of perception..

We talk about these guys opinions and integrity because It's important.

NOPE! People love Chris Paul. he isn't over looked at all. Even though he hasn't had comparable success to his PG counterparts, they still think he is an all-time PG. He gets his respect regardless.

Perception means I care what other fans think
I only care about what Rockets fans think
If rockets fans think that clutch city was meaningless they aren't real rockets fans

Perception will never take away clutch city
There's such a thing where all people care about is what everyone else thinks

This is the current state of the world

Media perception screwed Anthony Davis out of $20M+ last year and it will screw Paul George and Gordon Hayward out of a combined $120M this year.

Because, oh look at that, the spineless media are the ones who vote on All-NBA teams which has significant contract implications for these players:eek:

Here's the honest to goodness argument. If Russ post Durant led his team to the 3 seed and 55 wins while almost posting a triple double, and Harden barely squeaked by at the 6 seed with 48 wins and averaged a triple double, a guy with a perception of being a ball hog and ball stopper, would Harden then be the MVP or would his triple doubles be simply the product of a selfish chuckster who cares more about himself than his team?

Everyone knows the answer to that. Because if Russ wasn't averaging a triple double this year, does anyone think he still wouldn't make All NBA this year? Of course not.

I agree completely and it is frustrating but that's where I think @tinman argument about not caring about their perception comes into play.
    your thoughts > their opinion

Not sure they even watch houston games most of the time. Why value skip bayless or chris broussards opinion more than yours?

I agree with the points your making about perception mattering when it comes to subjective recognition like MVP or hall of fame but does that stuff really matter that much?

By the way I'm with you. I'm frustrated too

Edit: It's not up to them whether or not rockets fans can have full satisfaction of Houston titles. It is up to rockets fans to decide whether or not they can enjoy full satisfaction of winning a title. I was 3 when it happened but Im pretty sure I wouldn't let talking heads prevent me from enjoying a championship

This is not what it's about at all. This is a completely different thing.

The current state of the world is "People think falsehoods are real", not "People care about what other people think"

I care that people understand FACTS. I care that other people don't perpetuate fantasy.

    The MVP is perception
    Based on voters

The championship is based on games won in the playoffs

but why care if people don't pay attention to facts? that won't have much impact on how the rockets play in the playoffs. I'm more worried about harden's wrist and health. Haters can hate. I'm starting to do myself a favor and get over it. I agree with everything you say completely. I'm just not letting it bother me anymore

The world is full of group think. It honestly wouldn't be a travesty if westbrook wins MVP. either way Harden is getting paid and is gonna do his best to help us win games. It would be amazing to see the rockets beat okc in the playoffs.

I'd rather a 1st round playoff series win and no MVP than an MVP and a 1st round series loss. Houston fans have it better than OKC fans if we win.

You're right, it won't. I don't think it should have an impact on play. That's not the point.

If the Rockets get passed OKC, and go beyond, I want the Rockets to get credit. Simple. It's great some people think this stuff doesn't matter; you're a better human than me. In your everyday life, you wouldn't think this stuff wouldn't matter. You would want your accomplishments and hard work recognized.

Basketball is different, I guess, because you get paid LOADS of cash to play despite not being appreciated (I'm sure there are some that don't think the money matters too). In the real world, you would stop working hard or quit and find better employment.
