If he can develop a good 3-point shot, I think he can contribute more than Wafer. White is taller, has athleticism and is a better defender.
One thing is he's not really a young guy and he knows the opportunity he has and it is nice to see a guy so focused and acclimating his game to the needs of the team. He is mature and I think everyone is on the same page on this team from the playoff run from Yao to the last man on the bench. They know what it is going to take to be a champion, not to go Drayton Mclane on anyone.
I always thought he had a pretty good stroke. I hope he can stay focused on D, he seems more "stable" than Wafer in the locker.
He kinda reminds me of Jamario Moon -- an older elite athelete who is trying to stick with a team after bouncing around outside the NBA for a little while. These stories are not all that uncommon. Hopefully White can be a contributor and have a productive career like Moon, Mario Elie, Bruce Bowen, etc. If he can get to a point next season where Coach Adelman trusts him to fill in 10 or 15 minutes a game, I would be very happy. From what Shawn Respert says, he has the potential to fit the mold of the current starters on the wings (i.e. good size, good defender). I wouldn't-- and I know Daryl Morey wouldn't -- rely on that happening with an untested player, though.
I hope James doesn't work on his defense too much... I don't want another conundrum of Brooks and Wafer (offense) and Lowry and White(defense).
i posted before that the rockets should mould him into a good perimeter defender so we can let wafer walk and SnT artest for a wing playmaker/shooter if both of them demand too much money. then you can trade tmac for amare. lowry / drafted PG SG traded for Artest / jrich battier / jwhite amare / scola yao / backup C / dorsey
the way he practices (his toughness) should really give him a chance... the way he's shaping up, he could replace von...
wafer will brake all of u white fans up wafer be like f it im a sign with rockets for what ever they give me and james will go bye bye
Lift off is not his problem. Nor is hang time. White looked better in his workout than Harden. I am not saying if the draft were today I would pick White over Harding but the kid has impressed me and the attitude that some were concerned with seem to be a thing of the past. I know he only had limited action this season but clearly he can shoot. And if a coach says he surprised him defense and that he has an ability to go to the basket and can pass from that. Well let's just say bye-bye Wafer.
Does anybody see White and Wafer becoming a poor man's Jordan and Pippen for us, a couple of years down the line?
Von Wafer came into the season not even expected to make the team. He was more of a guy that they plan to "keep their eyes on" for the future years ahead. Instead he nearly averaged 10 points a game and 9 in the playoffs off of 19 and 13 mins per game, respectively. He also brought a LOT of energy off of the bench which is exactly what a bench player should do. So, he truly played his role as a bench scorer and energy guy. He also made less than 1 mil last year. Now if Artest or any player making several more millions than Wafer put up those numbers and brought in the energy in which he does, than perhaps he would be overrated, because then that would be expected from him. But he is going to be looked at a little bit more by local fans because of his pay and beginning expectations. If he has the same year with us, considering our signing him, then the hype would not be as much because it is expected.
