Everyone will cry Yao's regress next season and then the board will be filled with "trade Yao" threads.

 

We could use that 2nd round pick, since it's gona be very high, like 31 probably.

 

AHRRGGG! Then to make matters worse CD throws in an unprotected 1st rounder next season! Then JVG thinks this is a good deal becuz he does'nt have to play a rookie!

To all the people that hated the Rafer Alston - Mike James trade, now we may end up with BOTH. James wasn't going to carry us to the playoffs last season anyway. So now we got our true PG and a combo 1/2 guard.

Right now, CD is looking like a genius (assuming this deal gets done)

$4.2 TE works for MJ if they sign him at $4.3 with max increases. I think MJ would do this, especially if he had a player opt out after 3 years. I would do that deal. Our first rounder next year is going to be low. We're actually trading guaranteed salary next year for non-guaranteed salary to a bench player that isn't going to play anyways. And James can have Luther's minutes. That leaves us with the entire MLE to go after other talent.

 

If we use the MLE well, I might be OK with this. But I HATE giving up the 1st rounder next year. That hurts. Unlike most here, I'm not that high on Luther. We MUST! use the MLE to get a decent starting SG.

Only CD could screw this up. Generally you don't have to give two first round talents in a sign and trade. Knowing Van Dummy won't play them, I guess makes head and a first rounder worth less than a bag of peanuts.

 

I think giving up Luther Head AND 2007 1st round pick is pretty rich for Mike James. If that was the case, then we would be gambling pretty hard that we could get a differencemaker with the MLE that would offset the loss of Head+2007 1st round pick.

 

So, would you trade Alston for a longer two or post player, then use the TE (or part of the MLE if this James deal is a sign-and-trade) to get Marcus Banks?

 

You can't trade a player along with a TE. Even if we could, Head + TE + 2007 1st Round Pick is too rich for my blood.

Next year's draft is going to be deep and talented. I don't care if we're picking in the 20's next draft, I want to keep the pick.

 

Man, if that proposal goes through, it'll just add more fuel to the Hulk-like rage I already feel towards the Rockets front office. Head AND our 1st rounder next year for a signed James + 2nd rounder? When we can just outright sign James to an MLE deal instead? VesceySux SMASH Toyota Center!

 

Or they don't feel they're gambling because they're already in negotiations with someone. To be honest, this prospect both excites me AND frightens me. It could be wonderful news or just absolutely devastating. If we give up Luther Head and our first round pick next year so that we'll be able to sign somebody like Keith Van Horn I'll strangle somebody.

 

Actually, I'm reserving final judgement until the 12th. I still got a sneaky feeling that we'll learn something new when both teams can speak freely.
