SP Jose Urquidy for C Wilson Contreras Rental is a bad trade

Trading away Hunter Brown, Yainer Diaz would've been a Disaster, These Players are the Future Core

    All of them were awful

Yes it worked out this year because of all our talent

But if I’m Crane I understand that if these are the kind of moves he will make repeatedly, it won’t be good long term

The bigger issue obviously is that him and Click simply didn’t see eye to eye

Not true. If you think all of them were awful, you have unrealistic expectations of what their purpose was

If you're going to pull some **** like this after winning the world series, you better nail the next hire.

I'm fully aware of all the tension in the front office, but could it be said that a bit of conflict in the workplace is more productive than filling the front office with human bobble-heads?

I can't judge the whole thing yet, but my gut instinct tells me this situation will end poorly, with the message given to any prospective hire that being buddy-buddy with Crane matters more than success.

we literally had to pay will smith 6 million to get out of the 12 million we were going to pay odorizzi next season. It was a very bad contract

We signed Yordan for a paltry $19 million a year.

It's the steal of the century.

    Bravo Click, bravo!

What was the issue? Click wants to expand payroll and Crane doesn’t?

Yes - because we ended up with 8 good starting pitchers. He was signed when we didn't have that (and Framber was expected to be out for a season) and we had no idea everyone else would turn out to be stars. He played his role well. If we didn't have endless depth, $12MM for a 4.00 ERA type starting pitcher is about as good as you'll get.

No it wasn't. The Astros got exactly what they expected. If they did not have a surplus of pitching and a need for a left handed reliever, I doubt he even gets traded. And they still would have been pleased. Think I am wrong? Take a look at what the expected cost of a starting pitcher of his caliber is in free agency: Corey Kluber : 1/12, Mike Clevinger: 1/10, Zach Eflin : 2/22. 3/23 plus incentives is a good deal. What did you expect?

He could have got at least 30 million a year he is underpaid compared to the rest of the market.

No, it was seemingly the opposite. Crane was underwhelmed by the moves Click was willing to make. It seems like Crane wanted some deviation from a full-on analytical approach, and perhaps Click wasn't able to nut up when the situation called for it.

This sucks. All there is to it. Just hate to see it. I get that there’s a rift…but we just won the WS. Can we enjoy not terrible national optics for a week?

Right, and ruin his career? He wouldn’t do that and he was at the meetings with a contract offer.

Also if you believe some of the whispers, he ran his mouth some.

Not to mention it’s a no-no for a GM to leak to the press or have his assistant GM leak to the press.

If I were Click I would be upset. I just lead my team to two WS appearances and a WS title and I am given a take it or leave it one year deal. That just doesn’t happen… but from what I have been told, Click brought some of this onto himself.

Agreed. I know that the Astros internally have considered reaching out to the Braves about a couple guys. One is a former Astros front office guy who is very high up in Atlanta and the other is someone Dusty Baker knows, but is very well respected - Dana Brown is his name I believe.
