you were trying to goad him into a silly and childish online squabble. if you want to communicate with people, everyone here is willing to talk like adults.
It was difficult to quote your post just to include Jesus. I should have just put it in italics, but I figured you would know what I was saying...
Well, don't you go around interpreting the words of God (me) . Adults are supposed to debate with logic and facts. It's only ok for children to believe in faireys, unicorns, Santa Clause and whatever imaginary friend they think they have.
first off scholars agree that the entire josephus thing was a hoax or at best he just acknowledged that he existed; not that he was the son of god. many people think the entire story was a hoax. Secondly, there is no evidence that Jesus' disciples died for what they believed in. check this out:
You are right I made something simple confusing, because I was confused Here is the simplified version- I am defining religion as a practice, Bob Dylan said it this way "you've got to serve somebody" So here is the simplified version- Atheists are just as religious about their beliefs as I am about mine. People worship something- god doesn't have to be defined. In fact I would argue whatever someone worships is their god, be it money, self or admiration and power. Worship is what motivates us, it is what we live and die for. Life completely void of motivation results in suicide. I know there are atheists who believe there is no god (s), But I have yet to me anyone who is not religious about their own belief system. OK, just let me be confused.
No, I knew that Islamic's thought Muhamad was a man, but I did not know what the Quran said about Jesus. And I generally bash all religions, but have since pretty much stopped. It doesn't do any good. DD
You cannot be further from truth here. Atheists such as myself have no loyalty to any belief or theory. Our "faith" in any theory or belief is only as strong as the logic and facts that support it. We will happily abandon our theory or belief when I more convincing one pops up. You confuse worship with pleasure. People would do anything to satisfy their desire for pleasure which has nothing to do worhshipping. Pleasure is what evolution has given us -- things that give you most pleasure are the ones that make your species survive. You have to learn to think outside your box, not everyone's life is centered around religion.
Again, the evidence is out there that the man Jesus Christ existed. You can really dig and cast doubt on that evidence. But to do that, you must put it to exceptionally high scrutiny, higher than any other figure of that time outside of the emperors. It takes a much, much bigger leap of faith to say that Jesus didn't exist than to say that he did.
I disagree comepletely. It is entirely about proof. Faith implies belief in something that cannot be proven. To be religious by Madmax's definition, an atheist would need to deny god even after concrete proof was supplied. Dave_78 nailed it (albeit in a somewhat rude method).
