It means Orlando has the guts or balls to move Steve to the 2 where he should have been all along. DD
Magic is in no position to give up on the Rockets deal. Only Tmac can make that decision. I don't see any thing that may have changed his mind.
if the Suns want to risk it they will, TMac said he would only sign an extension with the Rockets BUT that may not stop other teams from trying
OK... lets say the Phoenix get T-Mac... Much congrats... T-mac and Amare are teamed up...You have offically become the supersonics of the 21th century....losers I guess iam just fuken bitter... or just stupidly impatient... I like SF, but I want T-Mac on the Rox NOW... and now you a$$hole (the Magic) got Jameer Nelson Imma be greedy and penalize the Magic and demand they "give" us him too.... DAMN!!!!! someone pass me acouple of shots of anything!!!! I fuken pissed off

By tim povtak | Sentinel Staff Writer Posted June 25, 2004 Jameer Nelson waited longer than he expected to hear his name called in the NBA draft Thursday night. He won't have to wait very long with the Orlando Magic. Their desperation for a starting point guard may have ended. The Magic, who took an untested high-school phenom with the No. 1 pick in the draft, traded for the battle-tested Nelson, who was selected 20th by the Denver Nuggets. Nelson, 22, was the consensus National Player of the Year from St. Joseph's, one of the few first-round draft picks who completed four years of college basketball. As a senior, he led St. Joe's through their amazing 27-0 regular season, a top ranking in the national polls and the school's first No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 20.6 points and 5.3 rebounds. "He's the most NBA ready kid in the draft, regardless of position," said Magic General Manager John Weisbrod. "He's such a high character kid. He's ready to contribute. It's like we landed two lottery picks in this draft." To land Nelson, the Magic traded a future conditional first-round pick, obtained from the Washington Wizards in 2002 in the trade of Brendan Haywood. It might not be until 2007 before the pick is moved to Denver. In the second round, the Magic took Brazilian Anderson Varejao (6-10, 230), a high-energy forward who played last season in Spain. Weisbrod, though, said it's likely that Varejao will come to summer camp with the Magic, but he may return to play next season in Europe. The Magic traded their other second-round pick (36) to Memphis for cash considerations. Although it may take Howard time to get acclimated to the NBA, Nelson could become an immediate contributor -- even a starter according to Weisbrod. His experience will be vital, depending upon the trade of Tracy McGrady and who comes in return. The Magic struggled last season at point guard, failing to recover after letting Darrell Armstrong depart as a free agent in 2003. Tyronn Lue became the starter, but he failed to replace the leadership of Armstrong. Although 19 teams passed him by in the draft, the Magic pounced on the pick when he slipped that far in the draft. "We had him projected so much higher," said Magic Coach Johnny Davis. "That's why we were so excited to get him." Although Nelson was disappointed how far he fell in the draft, he didn't show the frustration while he was waiting for his name to be called. "This is going to be a challenge for me, but I'm ready for challenges," Nelson said. "I'm going to play with a chip on my shoulder. I belong in the NBA, and the Magic needed me. That's why they took me, and I'm excited about that."
Oh goodie, Weisbrod views Nelson as a starter. That'll really NOT help our cause... unless this is another smokescreen... if that's the case, this is the first time I can't tell with this moron.
damnit! i thought i was the only wise one.. hehe.. but yah, as soon as jameer's stock was dropping, i was thinking that the rockets were already on top of trying to acquire him.. now that Orlando has him, all the more likely he will end up in houston! so they say the trade will be complete with in 2 to 3 days.. Im convinced that Steve will agree to be traded to Orlando.. check this line up Nelson McGrady JJ Howard Yao reserves: Nachbar, MoT, Lue/Gaines, Biadine?, Griffin?... we have a solid team!!
Man this board fills up with dreamers quick. I think you guys have "homer" blinders on...b/c we are not getting mcgrady and nelson in the same deal. How did we suddenly upgrade from throw-in Reece Gaines to Jameer Nelson? If it does get pulled off, I take back all the negative things I've said about CD.
I do not understand. If Nelson is so great, why he was picked at 20th in one of the weakest draft in the NBA history??? WHy some team with three No.1s did not pick him when their starting PG is Chucky Atkins?? Calbert Cheaney was also college player of year, was picked way higher (6th) than Nelson, and was supposed to be NBA ready. Well, how many YOFs here know his name??
I'm always so amazed at how everyone overrates players coming in from the draft. Like they will be instant stars or starters when most-likely they will struggle to get playing time. Once you get past the 10th pick or so there is a high probability the player will only be a role player a best and lost will not even get their 4th year team option picked up. Just think of all the 10th+ first rounders Houston has had that didn't amount to much. What, like 75% never materialized into a role player, they just sat on the end of the bench as the 11th or 12th man. Nelson was selected with the 20th pick and they hope he will be a good backup for Francis since they are trading their other PGs Lue & Gaines.
Steve Francis, Cuttino Mobley, Kelvin Cato to Orlando (about 24 million) T-Mac and Howard and draft bust Gaines to Houston (about 21 million) along with rights to Jameer Nelson. Maybe give them the guy we drafted at #55 and it might be a fairly even trade.
You obviously dont watch college basketball. If you did, it would be clear as day to you that Jameer Nelson is an excellent point guard, and should have been late lottery material. The man took his team to a 30-2 record. Teams didn't pick him becuase they like the fact of having prospects. Players that have a huge ceiling, with incredible potential. Specially this year, when there are a handful of free-agent point guard, teams can afford not to pick him. But some picks, yes, i denately thought were idiotic. I am willing to put money on the fact that the guy that Golden State picked will suck ass, as will the 7'5 guy from Russia who Utah picked.. I think this whole euro-player thing is getting out of hand. Jameer Nelson definately got screwed in the draft, but at least he got picked by an exciting team. I like the guy alot, has alot of class and composure.
Well, I watched too many college games (hi, they are on espn, not NBA tickets or whatever). I have seen too many outstanding college players did not make the NBA. Of course, Nelson could become the next Redd/Boozer, but we should not be surprised he becomes the next Bryce Drew/Julian Dixon etc.
nelson... maybe he'll turn out to be a good player... but if Duanny Wagner couldn't be good, nelson's the same player.
Jameer Neslon is small. He will be a liablility on defense. There is too much stock in defense these days to have a point that is under 6'2''. Steve Francis has the ideal PG body. He just doesn't have a PG brain.
