While people shouldnt be the way they are with their harshness, its not totally unprecedented what Russell is going through. Mario Williams and Vince Young have gotten their share of bashing. Warren Moon had some racist hazing he went through. Alot of those QB busts listed didnt even get a third chance, was 2 and out the league for good.

Gradkowski is 2 years older than Russell. Its not like he's some Vinny Testaverde/Jeff Garcia crusty veteran fill in who's been around through 4 presidents. Russell's a man. If he wants to detract the bashing, he'll need to show it on the field.

Those comments were vicious, but true. While he isn't the biggest bust of all-time, Jamarcus Russell deserves the criticism he gets.

I wonder where he would have been drafted if the Raiders has passed on him.

Yeah, I didn't get what the jewelry had to do with anything (and yeah, Kevin Harlan's seen plenty of gaudy jewelry, he works for the NBA).

Jamarcus Russell being an awful football player has nothing to do with him spending 45 minutes at the jewelry store.

Harlan was right. Thats the thing with Russell, he acts like he doesnt care. Its pretty bad when a guy like Gradkowski with 1/4th of Russell's talent looks ten times better. When you holdout and show up out of shape and then dog it the fans can tell. I dont think Gradkowski is great but I would rather have him out there because I think he actually cares.

I can understand if he does everything within his power to put in the time and effort and it doesnt work out but to show no desire or work ethic is crazy. This guy is supposed to be our leader? Ship his sorry a** out. I know
Davis likes him but I think his bad habits are too far gone.

And whoever said Jackson and Schlareth hate us is right the Rams could be 0-16 and the Raiders loss gets more attention from those 2.

I'd start the season with Gradkowski assuming their QB situation doesn't change, and then switch to Russell if Gradkowski is losing games.

And jumpstart the merry-go-round of SUCK!

I say just nab a guy like Clausen or Bradford, if they are available of course, and start from scratch at QB with either of the 2.

They could even draft a guy in the second or later rounds, I'd think about adding someone like Colt McCoy, I don't think Snead has declared but if he did then he should be looked at, the Raiders just lack a hard worker that knows how to lead a team at the quarterback position.

Even if they slowly progress a player like the 2 mentioned above behind the woeful Gradkowski or Russell eventually he'll be able to take the reighns and be a winner.

I would too, but thats why I said if the QB situation doesn't change. The Raiders organization is the problem though, so I'm not sure another QB draft pick won't be chewed up by that miserable franchise.

No, they will draft another overhyped skill-position player. I'm thinking another receiver.

Ok, but the trend is in the wrong direction. His QB rating shouldn't drop 27 points in year three.

A 50 QB rating is very bad. To give you an idea how bad that is, lets say a QB attempts 20 passes in a game -
The QB can throw every one of those pass attempts into the stands and get a 39.6 rating.

JP Losman for the Raiders, his season total is 1 incomplete pass and his on the heals of matching Russell's rating.

The only QB worse who had more than 150 throws is Derek Anderson, who as a 6th round draft pick not the overall #1.

Now we know Tom Brady was a 6th round pick and Drew Bledsoe was an overall #1 pick, so weird things have happened at the QB position....but generally expectation is for the franchise QB and best talent in the draft to outperform low round picks and free agents.

Russell's NFL career was doomed from the very beginning when the Raiders drafted him. There is a reason why they were bad before Jamarcus and why they are still so bad to this day.

With that said, from everything I've read/heard, Russell hasn't done much to improve his own game either. He has all the physical tools to be a good QB, but we've seen time after time that it takes more than that to make it in the NFL.

That doesn't change the fact that a 77 QB rating is bad. I agree that his career isn't over, but a 77 QB rating isn't anything to be proud of, especially considering his QB rating dropped to 50 the next year.

Thats right there between serviceable to average. Not good but not awful, especially for a 2nd year QB its something to build on.

Then there's the setting he's in. Seriously, put '08 Russell on this year's Jets and they're probably a BETTER team than with Mark Sanchez. Russell mighta Dilfer'ed them into the darn Super Bowl. THATS where I feel for him, his circumstances arent as favorable.

But when you have a 30 point drop in rating, got some explainin to do.
