GM "Not Pleased" With Carr's Play

Whether David Carr stays with the Texans next season or not, one message he will receive from the team was that his play at the quarterback position was unacceptable. Speaking in a live interview broadcast by KBME-AM radio on Friday, general manager Rick Smith, in spite of a few double negatives, made it clear that the team will be seeking some sort of improvement from Carr's position.

"We certainly were not comfortable and not pleased with the play that David provided all season," Smith said. "We've got to get better. We've got to be more consistent. There are some things that (head coach) Gary (Kubiak) tried to work with him on all season, and some of those things he improved on and some of them he didn't.

Smith added that he foresees the team adding a quarterback to not just compete with Carr, but to try and beat him out as well.

"David Carr is under contract two more years, and he's our quarterback. That's where we are today," Smith said. "Now when I say that, I'll also say I'm going to try and bring some other players in and whether I bring a QB or will we possibly draft a QB, absolutely. We've got all positions that are available for us to go out and try to get better at."

As discussed here last week, cutting or trading Carr will likely result in $4 million of dead money on the salary cap. While it is a sizeable figure, Smith didn't think anyone's contract financials outweighed their on-field performance.

"Economics always plays a part in decisions. Is it the end all to be all? No, it isn't. Ultimately, production and what you do on the football field is the most important thing."

I'm thinking he's pretty much done here.

the texans should just draft a qb in the 2 or 3 round than sign plummer as a starter that way the young qb could develop.

SOrry Bub but you're wrong. David Carr makes too much money to stay on as a backup. If the Texans cut him they still take a 4 million hit to the cap next year but that will be the end of it. Cutting Carr frees some cap room for the summer and a lot of cap room next summer.

He's gone as is Davis ERRRR Williams and Seth Payne

It's a good thing you aren't talking out of your ass or anything.

    =======

I say the Texans should draft the Baltimore Ravens defense in the first round; there's always going to be a QB available later.

But knowing them, they'll probably take a kicker at #8 like I did when I drafted Vanderjagt that one time.

I can't believe we have a thread devoted to J. Russell. Look, if it's a QB you people want then pray Brian Brohm leaves Louisville now the Petrino is gone. Otherwise pick up Joe Thomas or Alan Branch.

The 610 morning show made a decent comparison between Russell & Mario Williams this morning. Like Williams, Russell has all of the scouts drooling with his physical attributes. Also like Williams, Russell played very well against the weaker defenses and disappeared against better opposition (Tennessee, Florida, & Auburn).

Someone will want Carr in a trade. Hopefully two someones (Tampa and Chicago?) will want Carr so that the Texans can get something of value back. Either way, the Texans won't have to worry about cutting him.

Kid won't last until the 8th pick - I'm betting that the Raiders take him with the No. 1 pick.

13-0 in the Big Ten (no matter how overrated it is) is a lot different than 11-3 in the WCC.

I think he's good, but for the Texans...nah...I hope we get an impact player, but of course, we need a veteran QB...
