Jesus, you are persistent aren't you? Yes there is something wrong with having two players who give you practically the same thing. Why in the hell would we have another player that would provide the same crap Mutombo does just for the sake of having him? Magloire if anything would hurt with his presence out there. He is a black hole who refuses to play defense anymore. He basically gave up on the game of basketball. Have you watched him play recently? I'm always for extra bodies, but at least bodies that would have some sort of positive impact. Magloire could potentially be a cancer if he doesn't play since he thinks he should get playing time. http://blogs.nypost.com/sports/nets/archives/2007/12/big_cat_big_was.html
Did you read that article you posted? Great attitude, works hard, but doesnt fit into the rotation because they are looking for a faster game, more up and down, and Magloire isnt that type of center. Also, if you look at comments from fans, they say that they wished he played more and that Frank has lousy rotation management. If nothing else, it would allow us to play hack-a-shaq in the playoffs.
I thought recently he was DNP for many games (more than 11 gamesI believed) and was out of rotation for NJ. He is also a back up C and does not get many min. So his FG this year was about 30% as a back up who hardly play while Deke probably play less than him but then the comparison is valid. They are back ups so I don't expect them to have 50% FG this year as some claimed a back up C should have.
What I read from the article was specific snippet that talked about how Shaq had his way with him. Now I know this is shaq we are talking about, but think about it, how in the bloody hell was Jason Collins able to get playing time even though he is basically the same as Jamaal, yet Jamaal got no playing time?
Magloire is scoring and rebounding more than Collins in about half the minutes that Collins is getting. Like the article said, the Nets play a more fast paced game...and thats why Magloire doesnt fit in.
So why does Jason fit in? I'm asking you this because if they are pretty much the same players, then how come Collins was able to play but not Magloire, even though Magloire had better per 40 minute averages (which btw, I think it's stupid you are trying to argue some worthless stat that predicts how well he would do in 40
I think the article stated that their coach, Frank thinks he is just as good as Collins but he cannot play all 5 of them so someone has to be the odd one out and he choose Magloire. It's similar to Adelman in Houston early in the season, he said he can't play all PGs so some one has to sit. So the initially odd one out was AB and Francis. Then MJ and AB and when Francis is injured AB get to play but MJ is still the odd one out.
Magloire has lost it. You could see traces of it a couple years ago when he was playing up here in OKC with the Hornets. They traded him for Desmond Mason for God's sake and now he's ten times worse than he was then. If you want a backup big, Justin Williams is the man to look at.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=3265069 Sources: Magloire, waived by Nets, could join Mavericks The Dallas Mavericks appear to be tops on the list for soon-to-be free agent Jamaal Magloire, according to NBA front-office sources. Sources told ESPN.com that the 6-11 center is strongly leaning toward signing with the Mavericks this week and that a binding decision could come as early as Tuesday, with the 29-year-old scheduled to clear waivers at 6 p.m. Magloire was waived by New Jersey on Friday after the trading deadline passed. Although he was expected to supply the Nets with some much-needed bulk and experience on the front line, Magloire only managed to get into 24 games for the Nets, averaging a mere 1.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. But Dallas has a fresh opening for a proven center after being forced to part with DeSagana Diop in its recent trade for Jason Kidd. Erick Dampier is the only true center left on the Mavs' roster. After earning a surprise spot on the Eastern Conference All-Star team in 2004, Magloire has struggled to stay put, lasting just one season each in Milwaukee and Portland before signing a one-year deal with the Nets last summer worth $4 million. But the recent influx of size in the Western Conference after a flurry of trades this month has apparently created a new job market for him. "I've never seen a guy work so hard when he isn't playing," Kidd said Monday night in Dallas of Magloire, who was Kidd's teammate with the Nets as recently as a week ago. "If that were to happen [Dallas signing Magloire], I still think he has something left in the tank." The Mavericks are also among the playoff contenders lining up to sign veteran guard Brent Barry, who was waived last week by Seattle after the Sonics acquired Barry, Francisco Elson and a 2009 first-round pick in a swap with San Antonio for Kurt Thomas. But Phoenix, Houston, Golden State and Boston -- as well as the Spurs, who must wait 30 days to re-sign him according to league rules -- are also making a strong push for Barry.
