He is one of a number of point guards in the 15-25 range of the draft that could potentially be a long term solution. There are 4-5 others, including a couple overseas........ there just isn't any real sure fire prospects other than the combo guard Ivey.
Reaching the play-in tournament would show progress. You don't want to be a perpetual lottery team. Ideally, our draft picks from this year will develop into reliable key pieces which will then attract some good free agents. If we could reach the play-in tournament this year, you should be happy as a Rockets fan because it would mean that they are ahead in their rebuild timeline. I don't understand folks that think tanking is good in the hopes that some unproven rookie will be good. Most good players in the draft are selected in the mid-first round rather than the top 5 anyway. And, next year we have the swap option with the Nets so hopefully they'll do the tanking for us next year so we can win and still get their high first-round pick.
Reaching the playoff means you are still a perpetual lottery team and reaching the play in tournament gives you a greater chance of continuing to be a perpetual lottery team. Why should I be happy to be in the play in tournament to just get dragged in the 1st round of the actual playoffs? What does winning 1 more who gives a **** game actually mean? Reaching the play in tournament does not mean ****, Orlando has been eligible for the play in and the actual 8th seed for about 5 years running and how is that rebuild going? How about we both tank and get double the High 1st round picks really get ahead of the rebuild timeline.
I like Jabari Smith a lot. Jalen Smith seems like a good young player so I won’t say no…will be interesting regardless to see how this draft/off-season goes. Lots of intriguing prospects. Hopefully we stay in the top 3 range, would be ecstatic with another top 2 pick.
Well, 'those folks that think tanking is good in the hopes that some unproven rookie will be good'? We did that last year. Turning it around to say the draft is shiet, while the rookies were from the previous draft last year, it is a tad hypocritical. Young players have to come from somewhere, you guess it right, from the draft....and yes, sometimes it takes 1 or 2 years longer. It is not up to you or any fan.
