The team is negotiating a buyout of the final year of Rose’s contract, which calls for him to earn $16.9 million. The precise terms of the buyout are not known. “We’re close to reaching an agreement, and my expectation is it could be done as early as tomorrow,” Arn Tellem, Rose’s agent, said last night. Rose, 33, was became expendable after the Knicks signed small forward Jared Jeffries over the summer. They also drafted small forward Renaldo Balkman with the 20th pick.
Kinda surprised Isiah couldn't find a way to turn that expiring contract into Adonal Foyle or Dampier. He's getting lazy.
I'd rather have R.Bowen than Rose because at least Bowen won't be ball hogging and forcing stupid shots.. and he'll be quite happy on the bench
This team's chemistry is VITAL to the success. We have one question mark in Bonzi...I don't think adding another knucklehead is the right move. DD
Is Denver still looking for a legit SG with size? If so, then he's right up their alley. More than likely though, he's probably gonna go to San Antonio or some other contender. Gettin' sick of these damn freeloading veterans.
That's a discussion we're having on the Nugs board I post on right now. I'm not 100% convinced he's the outside shooter that we need, but he'd certainly be a step up over DerMarr Johnson.
This guy is to be waived and anyone can pick him up for free. Just pay him the salary and it won't be 15M.
Mark my words. The Heat will pick him up. He's just what they're looking for - playmaking vet with just a little gas left. They need a 4th quality guard in a big way and he'll fit perfectly with Mourning, Payton, and Toine. If not, it's SA. But he and Finley are a bit redundant.
Knicks waive Jalen Rose October 30, 2006 NEW YORK (AP) -- Jalen Rose was waived Monday by the New York Knicks, leaving their roster one below the regular-season maximum of 15. The 6-foot-8 guard/forward, a 12-year NBA veteran, was scheduled to make $16.9 million this season. The 33-year-old Rose averaged 12.7 points in 26 games for the Knicks last season after being acquired in a February trade with the Toronto Raptors. But there didn't appear to be a place for him this season after New York signed swingman Jared Jeffries over the summer and drafted Renaldo Balkman with its first pick. Rose was a nonfactor in the preseason, playing in only four games and going scoreless in 31 minutes. With Jeffries hurt, Quentin Richardson will likely start at small forward, with Balkman backing him up. New York opens the regular season at Memphis on Wednesday. Rose becomes the second New York player with an expensive, expiring contract to leave during the preseason. The Knicks previously waived forward Maurice Taylor, who has since joined the Sacramento Kings.
That's there MO. No team is in more of a "win now" mode than the Heat. They desperately need depth. They've got 3 no-name rookies on their roster. If Jalen is willing to take the vet min or slightly above, it's a done deal.
