I want Josh Smith if we get Howard.

However, on the condition that he's ok with not taking the max (10-12 million sounds good) and we S&T Asik for him.

If he wants the max, or to be the main guy, he's SOL on our team. But I feel he is tired of losing and wants a chance to win big. Play with the best guard, your good friend who's an elite center, and a group of young, developing role players? It'd be hard for him to turn down IF he really wants to win.

what if Rockets doesn't get Dwight? Will we still go after Josh? In that case, I am seeing a max contract in process and I as a fan do not want that to happen

If we don't get Dwight, CP3 we would sign via our cap room [we would have had for D12) and S&T for Smith.

Because without him being the go to scorer he is quite a good player. He can pass, defend, finish around the rim. He would be the ultimate role player with Harden and Dwight being options #1 and #2. He would really round our the team really well.

I don't want him at $16mil a year, $12mil max but it would all come down to him wanting to play with Dwight/Harden and willing to forgo some $$ (if he gets that big an offer anyway - supposibly the Sixers are interested in him)

Apparently we need a stretch 4, and apparently a chucker who throws up every long, bad shot he can find and can't hit them worth a damn qualifies.

Think there's any way Morey convinces Howard to take 18 and josh smith to take 12? with Harden that ends up as about 45 on the rockets big three which is 6 mill less than what Miami spends on theirs and plenty of room to fill out the roster with quality rotation players.

    Who knows?

I do not want Smith here if he wants the max.
Only if he takes a pay-cut and accepts his role as the 3rd man ala Bosh.

Though, it seems Howard wants to play with Asik over Smoove.

oh no way would i pay smith the max and if howard wants to play with asik then we keep him. the only this is paying a back up center (which is what asik would essentially become with D12 on the team) 8.3 million isnt a very wise allocation of funds. off topic but the same could be said with Lin ,although he improved in all areas last season it is very hard to see him becoming the off the ball player that can maximize Hardens game and i fully expect Lins money to be nicely transitioned over to Parsons at some point down the line.

As objectively as I can say it, Houston just makes the most sense and Jalen made some solid points. It's now being brought to light but that extra money can be made up for later. A budding superstar with young potential isn't something to take lightly especially when you're in your prime (barring injury). I hope DH ends up here and I'm sure more people will be willing to take a pay cut if he does. Morey has already proven he can scout talent no one really wants and turn it into something so DH shouldn't be worried about whether or not we can continue to build around our core.

yea man. i don't get it. josh smith has shown his entire career he's prone to taking long jumpers and making a very low % amount of them. ppl have been clamoring his whole career to improve his shot selection, and take less shots to be more a defensive player, and a hub as a passer. it hasn't worked because he's a not a high iq offensive player. to expect him to change his game is being very optimistic. teams will sag off him and dare him to shoot, which he doesn't need to be told twice to chuck it from the outside. hawks fans GROAN when he shoots jumpers...almost every time. it's almost comical. he's very good defensively...but man, offensively i don't like his fit at all. no one even mentions he blows at ft's too. he's not a spacer. nor does he play like a role player, because he doesn't know his limitations.

That's pretty much the same pricepoint where I'd have interest in Smith.

Hell no to trading Asik for J Smith. I want Smith on the Rockets but if we have to get rid of Asik, then hell no.

    Really? You'd rather have Lin/Harden/Parsons/Howard/Asik than Lin/Harden/Parsons/JSmith/Howard??

JSmith can be our perimeter defender and gives us flexibility at the 3 and 4, and is the type of player that fits in our system while adding some perimeter defense when needed. OTOH, Asik and Howard are unproven to work well together as neither can stretch the floor, though we'd have dominant defense in the paint 24/7. Smith fits better offensively while giving us diversity in our lineup and defenses.

On josh smith, the comments with regards to his offense are correct. But you can't only look at offense. There is no other PF out there available and few anyways with his capabilities and flexibility defensively.

And that's the rockets krypton it's right now. You'd ideally have a josh smith with Kevin loves offensive game but then he'd be an MVP candidate every year.

Smith has been relied on too heavily offensively in Atlanta. The hope is he'd be able to get more open looks, easy looks and fast break looks offensively to creep his percentages up just a little bit.

That said, certainly if DM has a way to get Love, you pursue that.. Or Aldridge. And if he thinks Millsap is a better option at the 4 alongside Dwight, I won't quibble with him. Utah would probably take Asik in a S&T... Maybe

In any case, who cares. Dwight is the big fish. Got to land that first.

Ummm, yeah. Josh Smith can't stretch the floor any better than Howard, the only difference is that Howard knows he is a terrible shooter and Josh Smith is a chucker.

Sounds good. :) Just their opinions....but still I can't lie...it's a bit exciting. Wonder if we'll be able to watch the games on tv next year.
