I was comparing their impact on the court. Which is really how most people compare players. I mean why do people compare LeBron with MJ? They are different players, different styles, scores differently, play different positions, yet people compare them all the time. Why? Because people can compare player impact without needing to compare exactly how they play. It's really only people who don't want to compare players who post restrictions. Imagine if Denver wants to trade Jokic to the Rockets for Jalen Green. Are you going to tell me that's not a no-brainer trade for the Rockets because Jalen and Jokic score in different ways, do different things on the court, etc. and therefore this may not actually be good for the Rockets because then they'd have a hole at SG. People who understand basketball can consider two players of different types and still measure their impact on winning with each other.
He is max and cavs or generally any team imp should take the chances with the max players they drafted, regardless of archetype or ceiling. Smart organizations and coaches can figure things out. it is a strange dynamic with the nba though. There is a max salary and that creates max players of very different levels.
I'm channeling my inner Jalen Green stan behavior to remind everyone that it's over half the season and Jalen Green still has a higher scoring efficiency than both FVV and Sengun, our other two on ball creators. And the crazy thing is Green has the highest amount of his scoring unassisted out of those three at 62% while Fred is at 56% and Alpi is at 53%(still very high for a big man)
Mobley vs Jabari is an interesting debate. They are both versatile defensive bigs and good rebounders. Jabari is a better outside shooter while Mobley is better at inside scoring. Neither guy is any good at creating. Neither guy is aggressive on offense. I used to think they were at about the same level. Now I think Mobley is clearly ahead of Jabari. He has added a 3pt shot and is more involved in the offense. I don't' know how you can say he's a "worse Jabari Smith Jr." when he is scoring 18 ppg at 65% TS and Jabari is scoring 12 ppg at 57% TS. I can't believe I am defending Mobley. I used to argue against people who believe we should have drafted Mobley over Green. Having said all that, I do believe Jabari still has something to unlock that may leapfrog him over Mobley. And Jalen's improvement this season is as surprising to me as Mobley's.
Jabari is extremely underrated. Everyone is raving about how Amen is making Jabari expendable right? Amen is a generational defender and we are winning with him replacing Jabari. Well look at our defensive rating Rox dropped from 2nd to 4rth. Thats the impact of Jabari, even with a generational perimeter defender like Amen replacing him the Rox still ended up worse defensively overall. Even Mobley is more efficient because he doesnt hang in the perimeter and he doesnt take middies. He is shooting 3s at a high clip but he only takes 3 attempts unlike Jabari who takes 5. And thats with Jabari taking far less attempts than Mobley. If Rox involved Jabari more he'd be able to bomb from 3. If you wanna say Mobley is ahead of Jabari, sure. BUT Mobley is also making the max and I doubt Jabari makes more than Sengun money. That makes Jabari better IMO since he is more cost efficient. Mobley with his max salary should be judged the same as Jokic, Luka, SGA, Giannis etc.
Mobley is def a max player, but compared to Sengun who is also a max player but not paid like a max player then Sengun is better. Jalen is also playing like a max player but has an even better deal than Sengun. I think making the max doesnt just mean whether you are worth it, you also start to get compared to other max players like SGA, Jokic, Giannis, Luka etc If OKC has SGA and Cavs have Mobley and the rest of both teams have the same talent then OKC will be at a massive advantage.
Max is relative. In fact, all the first tier superstars are grossly underpaid relative to those other lower tiers max players. A Jokic would worth 3 times a Mobley. That's the NBA economy. If they didn't put a max to player contracts, one franchise superstar would likely take up more than 70% of a team's salary money. The CBA instituted the max to protect the middle class players from being squeezed by the superstars.
This Celtics game shows why Jalen is not an Alpha dog player, he is a good secondary option, but will never be a lead dog. He is scared to death of Brown. DD
How can you be so good and so bad? Jalen way too often forgets that he is a 99% tile athlete in the nba. He plays so soft.
Green has averaged 25 points the last 10 games on a .63 TS% and basically played with one eye tonight and posters are still complaining about him. The hell is wrong with yall?
Posted that also. Jaylen Brown said after the game that their entire defensive game plan was to stop Alpi, Jalen, Fred. Alpi 9 assists Fred 7 assists Jalen 6 assists That's pretty damn impressive from these three guys. And they all played hard on defense, too.
We won. Ill give Jalen a pass for that one. He wasnt a detriment like he has been in the past when not having a good scoring game. He wasnt getting absolutely fried on defense and he was taking care of and passing the ball. Hes got to make another jump if he wants to be a lead alpha, but on this team its looking like he doesnt have to be and thats ok.
