I was thinking last night, is there a stat for turnovers that lead to points? I swear Jalen has 1 turnover a game where he throws a pass straight to a defender that leads to a dunk.
I'll give him credit for the hustle getting to the floor, and for making the free throws. A lot of players would have choked it in that situation. However, he went 5-15 and 0-4 from three with 5 turnovers. They truly won in spite of Jalen playing terribly, not because of him.
Unless you have never said anything negative about any Rockets player who has ever donned a Houston uniform, this statement of yours only make you look like a hypocrite rather than some big fan. Because if you've ever advocated for the Rockets trading someone, not re-signing someone, blaming a loss of a game on someone, you too should just go root for another team because you clearly aren't a true Rockets supporter.
like how can u say they won in spite of jalen when without his willingness to dive for the ball and make high pressure free throws, we would have lost. like he showed up when it matters
You forget that Green also had 3 steals and the best +/- of the starters (yes, I know it is a messy stat). Also Fred shot as poorly with 4 TO and even Alpi had 4 TO. For a player that many complained as only being only a scorer, 'not a team guy', and a defensive liability, he has definitely proven most of that wrong. All those things are also needed for star players as much high scoring efficiency, and are just as often huge red flags for some stars. For example, those are all things which I feel Booker (the guy most want the Rockets to trade and replace Green with) is deficient in.
Fred has been really bad too, no doubt. This team with average backcourt production would be damn near unbeatable. I do also give him credit for being team oriented. You might expect him to get a big head and make a stink about being kept out of late game lineups, and all signs are that he hasn't done that. He's also owned his poor performances from what I can tell.
I want Jalen Green to get in the weight room. A whole lot of these turnovers are because of his weak frame. He gets swallowed up out there at times. Really pleased with the FT% jump, and his overall attitude. He has underwhelmed in some areas, but I like Jalen Green as a person and a teammate and a Houston Rocket. Boy would it be beautiful If he figured it out here alongside the rest of our squad.
idk about publicly but teams have live vs dead ball turnovers. whether it leads to points or not, a live ball turnover is the problem. Jalen does do what feels like at least one a night. Last night it was the lazy pass to dillon in the backcourt that led to instant points. the game before was the play (he has a habit of doing) of getting stonewalled at the rim by the baseline, jumping with nowhere to go, and making an errant pass that leads to an opposing fast break. stepping out of bounds, getting hacked (or stripped) while attacking the rim and losing the ball out of bounds, illegal screens, etc.. dead ball turnovers arent great but arent that bad overall. Jalen 100% has to get better at his turnovers though.
Depends who replaces him i guess? If sengun sat out, we lose by 20+ this game, if FVV doesn't hit that clutch 3, we lose, if jabari doesn't play well, we lose. That's a silly way to look at stuff. It's ok to say that he made a great hustle play and credit him for making the free throws, because it happened. It's also ok to say he had a terrible game b/c he was 5-15 with 5 TO, because that also happened. Both are true.
Haha i doubt you wanna get into his +/- and on off stuff, but i think being honest as objective (as much as possible) in evaluation is important.
Agree with you 100%. I’m going to be honest here and say I think Jalen gets a lot of unnecessary flack because he’s stereotyped based on his age/appearance/image/etc. In the four years he’s been here, he’s never been in ANY trouble, never been ejected, never disrespected a coach on the court, never went at a teammate for not passing him the ball, etc. Even when Silas was here, he never publicly threw Silas under the bus. So some of this stuff that they say about his character and how it translates to him on the court, I don’t see it at all. The only thing you can say that he did was go at Roosh but Roosh is literally one of the people who have talked about him in this manner so can you blame him? Like you said, this guy has been asked to do other things than just score and he has done that. Those aren’t the things he’s best at no but I don’t see how people don’t see his value as an overall player or even see how much he tries. It’s a shame.
Of course it is, but when you guys gloss over the obvious in order to keep promoting the "Jalen Sucks" mantra you will always receive pushback on games we win. Last night he was part of the solution and I'll say I wouldnt want any other player stepping to the line to take game deciding free throws - thats a skill too.
The game is 48 minutes. He started terrible, had a decent small stretch, then sucked/did nothing the rest of the game. If we had a good SG in the game, chances are we would’ve done better in the game, because his overall game was terrible. Give him all the credit in the world for the free throws, but you have to be objective in the analysis.
Qualifier after qualifier after qualifier. Bro is it really THAT hard to say that Jalen in the last 10 seconds of the game contributed to a win? Really? Funny you call me the extremist. If we had a PG who earned his money last night we hold the lead. If we had a coach who was better at situational coaching and understanding hot hands and player groupings this team would also thrive. You point at me with the "be careful" crap and you are living in the What If realm. Love you bro, but its a wack position.
