I think most Jalen haters on X are mostly fans of other teams. With haters I mean those that are critical of his game. Only recently have media members come out and say Jalen has been a major disappointment, it was about time!!!!! Most of us knew way beforehand. Vecenie amongst others opened Pandora's Box. Rightfully.
There's no Jalen Green hater, but you are judged by people around you - That's life. The problem is, when you see Sengun, Tari, Amen, even Bari lately made significant improvements in different areas and your team is sitting on the 3rd of the west, you are going to be criticized if you are not playing up to the standard people expect, especifally after you got your bag. If Jalen were playing for the Wizards, he would be fine because nobody cares. Like yesterday's game, I was happy that he shared the ball and played adequate defense in the first few possessions, even he missed a wide open shot. I was about to post that Jalen seemed to be turning the corner, then, once he made the corner 3s, he reverted himself to his oldself, the selfish and bad Jalen. It is unfortunately that the G-league Ignite's might have too much of bad influence on him that he could only play one way of basketball, but the gap are getting wider as other young cores have been improving significantly while Jalen was stagnant. The same applies to Reed, he's a rookie and he's not as shiny as Castle or Dillingham as of now, he got more scrutiny in this team than if he played for tanking teams. The reason is the same, you got judged by people around you. That being said, fans have more patient for a rookie than the fourth year player going to get paid.
Man, was so glad to see the team get props on Inside the NBA - Jalen got to see that he better shape up or this uber-talented team will move on without him quickly. I don’t think anyone is reasonably going to give up on a young player 20 games after committing $100m+ to him, but they will surely be watching. Jalen is hitting rock bottom and there’s so many things he can just do better by year 4. He has been a no-show and a couple of good games is not going to change that. Something has to change. At this point, losing his starting job might be the scare and confidence booster he needs right now. A good portion of the blame is that our offense doesn’t suit him but that’s not there majority of the problem. Even if it were a bad offense, his numbers should be better than this. He has to dig himself out of this. I believe he will.
...compared to what? Few GMs get it right 100% of the time - what is your standard for draft mistakes (and make sure to apply that to other GMs' picks). The Jalen Green pick is very much a hindsight is 20/20 thing - he was a consensus top 5 pick even from the guys who didn't like him as much(like Vecenie) and I think the overwhelming majority of draft boards had him top 3....and it misses the point that Stone STILL got the guy who would likely go top 2 in a redraft(Sengun). You can't beat up Stone too bad for missing on Jalen when he took Alpi at 16th. The Jalen pick was very much a contextual one - we had ball dominant ISO scorer and playmaker in Harden and a team built around him and then he is gone but we still had a team put together meant to get the ball from a freewheeling ISO scorer and playmaker and Jalen looked A LOT more like that than Scottie Barnes, Franz Wagner, Mobley, etc....AND the year before Anthony Edwards was the prize and Jalen looked a lot more like him than the other guys did. Hindsight looks bad on Green but if Houston passes on him, he still likely a top 4 pick at the time.
It's correct, unless you mean the NBA tracking data is broken. But it's not a typo in the tweet or anything, you can see it here - https://www.nba.com/stats/players/isolation?dir=A&sort=EFG_PCT
His confidence isnt broken its his shot. you can say stuff like this about someone like Haliburton because haliburton has actually shot well as an average in the pass so he is in a down period. this is jalen's default. its who he is. the only thing we can do is pray he improves but there no excucses for him.
yeah, hmmm.... He does get fouled on 9% of his iso-s, so there is that... I still think this number should improve, this is a ridiculous number. That's like "Ariza iso" number and Ariza iso is a torture to watch...
I agree with this sentiment. If JG finishes the season the way he's been playing, it becomes one of the worst contracts in the league.
I don’t necessarily see all of these things. Last night is a pretty good example green didn’t play that well as far as shooting, but I thought the passing and defense were on point. We all know and should acknowledge that we are seeing a regression in the shooting compared to what we were expecting after the preseason and the first few games. I don’t love it But I still think his particular skill set has been important and positive in regards to our current record. Would I start Amen over him? Yes but if is because Amen Is my favorite player and I think that he is the person most likely to be a star. That being said, Green has a better handle and is still largely the better shooter right now. I don’t think his trade value tanks if he averages 19,4,3 On a shooting percentage that is below average. He will have the youth factor still on his side for a couple years. Not to mention, he at least seems to shoot well in the clutch. I think we just let this play out for quite awhile.
oh I’m not making excuses. The shot has been the most important thing to see improved and it just hasn’t happened going into now the 4th season. I just don’t think he’s a good shooter. That’s who he is. So for me, you move on, because we have guys like Tari and Amen that are becoming elite at all the other things; Jalen will never be as good as those two at the things they are good at. So if Jalen can’t shoot he’s not useful to us in a meaningful way. but my point is that I’ve always thought Jalen was a confidence player. He appears to play a lot better when he’s confident, and when he’s not it feels like that downward spiral is super steep and deep. The same can be said for a lot of players but it feels more so with Jalen. Plus I genuinely don’t harbor any ill will towards the kid and want him to have a good career. But not with the rockets. I would be happy seeing him be successful with another team.
Pretty much this. On any kind of social media, fans of other teams absolutely think Jalen Green is a bust/scrub and they have every right to think that because of his consistently poor efficiency. Rockets are the only team who think he's good enough to deserve a 100M contract.
I think we need to still start him to keep his trade value until the summer. And I don't like this, but I think that's how it will go. We work on his shot selection and he gets his averages back up to 42% and 34% (I know 34% on 3's is generous). Jalen makes some pretty dunks and the media starts loving him again. Then we trade him this summer. Benching him kills his trade value. I don't know any non-starters that make $33 million a year. And no one wants to trade for a backup that makes that money. We don't have any easy stretches of games for him to pump up his value. Our schedule is difficult and even more so after the allstar break. We can hide Jalen a bit, get him to score 18 ppg on good efficiency (for Jalen) shooting and pump up his supposedly improved defense. As long as we continue to win games, then if he plays decently then we can act like he's part of that. However, this may require continuing to bench him in the fourth and that may be necessary to win games.
If he plays better when he's confident then he's rarely confident. I think he plays better against bad teams. he stuffs stats if he's on a bad team that lets him chuck like cade cunningham. stats look good until you look at the efficiency and turnovers. thats why you see jalen in all the graphics for us because he leads us in points and casuals dont look at the other stats. Im afraid he's a bust.
