Jalen Green being the leading scorer wouldn't mean he's the "MAIN FRANCHISE PLAYER". It just means there are multiple franchise players that aren't 1A types that could win a ring as the clear only elite player on the team but could if teamed with other elite second option or borderline first option guys that complement each other well with unique skill sets and good coaching.
That is what I am saynig, could this be a team of VERY GOOD STAR players instead of ONE that is a FRANCHISE player, and if so, does that work? More importantly how do the contracts work? For me, we don't have a FRANCHISE player - at this time, but we have a lot of guys that are really good and could be all stars - so is that what we are building? I think that is gonna be really hard in today's market as other teams will OVER PAY to steal our guys. So, what do you do as an org, say you like Jalen a lot, but you don't view him as a Max player and you have other players that you need to pay, what do you do? If you offer less than the Max, you risk another team offering the max, you are forced to match so you don't lose him as an asset for nothing but now you might not be able to sign other players you need. This is a massive situation developing that could toss the entire plan off track. Nice post FChowd DD
Lead scorer doesn’t mean first option or the main guy. Anyone who understands ball knows this. Points might help create flashy media narratives but isn’t how we analyze a player’s game thankfully. If you ignore all the haters who just seem to spew hate nonstop, you have to admit JG has been so wildly inconsistent it’s hard to fully trust in him. There’s no in-between with him - he’s either completely on fire or totally absent. I personally want to see more of what he looks like when his shots don’t fall, because most of his good games are when they do at incredible but unsustainable rates - that’s what happened during the March streak, and we know he won’t be shooting like he did in the preseason either. Will he get moody and stop doing other things to when that happens? I think he had some personal issues for a good stretch of last year which hugely impacted his performance. Will that happen again? So I can’t blame anyone having concerns with maxing him and then him disappearing or having a bad year because he stops caring or has some other personal stuff going on. The fact is there’s still growing up to be done and things to work on and prove. That being said, I feel if he shows up this year it’ll be kind of cruel to let him go to RFA and try to lowball him just because there aren’t enough teams with cap space, the optics over his entire career doesn’t look as good, etc. It’s a dilemma, a bad situation that JG isn’t blameless in. But overall I’m getting increasingly upset as the years go by about the Silas years. If these guys had gotten proper coaching even a year earlier we’d know a lot more about these guys by now which would fall perfectly in line time-wise with contract negotiations. Stone shares part of the blame here. We apparently had no idea how to tank properly and now it’s a meh situation for everyone to be in.
When we drafted Green I had him taking the leap in year 3 (age 21/22).......but it looks like it will be this season (year 4). IMO Sengun has been playing pro ball since he was about 17. All I need is Jabari making the leap now. Personally I would like Rockets to trade for Jerami Grant. We could win 52 games this year. #1 Option) Jalen Green: 25 - 28 points per game #2 Option) Sengun: 20 - 23 points per game #3 Option) Jerami Grant: 17 - 20 points per game #4 Option) VanVleet: 15 - 16 points, 7 assists #5 Option)…Cam Whitmore/Amen Thompson I'm willing to use Jabari Smith Jr and Dillon Brooks. Grant can dribble and drive.
Nonsense. Metrics define players and always will! Nothing else shall be used to define or rate players! Context or real statistical analysis not needed! TS% is the only metric we need!!
Damnit, my eye test had his TS at 59% for those 4 games I need to go get my Clark Kent vision examined ... Only a bust/fluke scrub would show up in worthless preseason games .... Long live Flukey4...... Go H-town Rockets
Just like the receipts chapter is going to be night and day when Loom decides to drop that said chapter Its like a 'scrub/bust' now looking like Chef il Moro Curry hitting 3s It don't get more night (darko/bennett/kwame) and day than that.....day is Curry Long live the fluke of ''Day''
Still waiting for @Corrosion to reply while he posts in other threads. Is Green going to exercise better shot selection or no? Or is Corrosion just going to hide his opinion while nitpicking at anyone who shares theirs? Calling people out for being wrong while being too afraid to share his own opinion? Tell us bro. What's going to happen based on the evidence we have?
I've said before that I don't think his shot selection is particularly poor, that he misses an awful lot of good shots, open shots and shots that you want him to take. Even going back to his rookie year where the Silas offense generated the most open / wide open looks from 3 in the league, he was only hitting 27% of those shots. As for what's going to happen, I'd like to think he gets it together. From all reports, he understands his issues and has worked on them all offseason .... All I can say is I hope the hard work pays off because Jalen becoming a star is the fastest track to this franchise taking a leap up the standings. I don't recall hearing about him working on the shooting much at all in the past (offseasons). Honestly, I want the kid to succeed. He seems like a decent enough human. If you notice, I don't knock him for anything that happens off the court. It's not my place to ridicule him on his choice of women, if that's who he loves, fine by me. I don't knock him for painting his nails, hell, I've painted mine in the long distant past. Some complain about him mumbling, I get it, he wasn't comfortable with the mic in his face .... been there (Just let me breathe). My mention of you in that other thread was more a compliment than anything .... comparing the AI English / punctuation / spelling to yours, hell, you even use then and than properly (reading the misuse of those makes my eyes bleed) .... but it's Ok, you can be mad if you want.
Shall we take this to mean you believe he will apply your advice and take a material step up? Or are you saying you hope he does but he won't? Please commit. Spoiler His shot selection is poor, we've shown you more than once why the numbers you're posting are flawed. Context is once again the culprit. He shot poorly on 6+ get wide open but he shot 39% on 4 feet open (less open). If you go into the play by play stats, you will see his wide open stats are heavily skewed by end of clock shots and Lillard-like super long range shots. These are stupid shots. That's called shot selection. You don't have to take a 27-footer when your defender is 6+ feet away. The way I found the out was research. I wasn't offended by the other post, I just want you to commit to a prediction instead of let it slide and nitpicking at others.
He has shown he can do other things when the shots don’t fall. Most point to his low 3pt% in several games but he was still getting to the line and still effective in 2pt FG. Check out the end of the season post MAR games against MIN, GSW, MIA, DAL. His 3 ball wasn’t falling but he did other things to give his team a chance to win including getting to the line and making plays for others. He avg within those 4 games. 5.5 reb 6.25 assists 1.25 steals 5.25 FTA Despite shooting .182 in that last MIN game, he stayed aggressive had 26 pts 8-11 2 pt FG% and 6 assists. Had 7 dimes against GSW (5 at the half) in a blowout loss as He continued to find ways to make plays in that terrible game. And 8 dimes for 21 pts against DAL despite.286 3pt% in a tighter contest.
