Generally players who are confident in their abilities dont shy away. He didnt believe he could get it done and he knows himself better than anyone.
Not true. comparing gsw before butler and after butler is not fair. udoka is a great coach he’s done a lot for this team even if he had his faults. Not fair to judge him either when the “star” of this team is dog ****. credits to sengun also, even though he had a rough series, it didn’t seem like he was shy about while going against a dpoy.
I agree that he improved this season, especially on defense side. But again, it's already the fourth year, his first three years were kind of retrogressing, especially the shooting part. Overall, he is still a super streaky and inconsistent player since day one. A #2 pick, like you said, after four years still lacks a lot of the fundamental skill that good scores possess. Doesn't it say something? He is just way too slow on personal developments and is literally dragging the team down. So, plz, no more "wait and see another year". I really wonder why many people are so tolerant and still have faith on him year after year, especially after a disaster Playoff series (I know it's his first, but still, totally unacceptable).
Well if he knows that...why doesn't he WORK on it? Rockets fans have praised him for his self-awareness, for his ability to take responsibility for, well, playing like ****. But knowing the answer and DOING nothing about it is tantamount to insanity. And I'm kind of tired of rooting for schizophrenic shooting performances.
Whoever was comparing this guy to the likes of Kobe and antman needa reflect, it’s almost midnight and I’m still irritated. No bag, no killer instinct, no balls
Who said hes not working on it? Maybe the ability just isnt there? If it was that easy to just work on something and be good at it the nba would be full of Steph Curry Ja Morant Kyrie Irving hybrids. There seems to be this thought that Jalen just needs to work on things and get his mentality right and hes got superstardom waiting in him. Lots of players just arent as good as we think they should be from the outside looking in for one reason or another. Sometimes its the intangibles that we cant see but shows up on the court when they play. Im sure Jalen has worked hard for a long time. And while he has improved, hes still only marginally better offensively than he was as a rookie.
Yeah 4 years are 4 years and it's not ideal. As far as tolerance goes, I'm in the camp that believes the first two silas years are something you have to weigh legitimately regarding development. I would not be mad at all if we traded him, personally, I think he has too much to catch up to, to become an all-star type guard. Just trying to stay positive and be open to every possibility because I don't believe his trade value will be that high. If he's on the team at the beginning of the year I'll find a way to be optimistic because it's not impossible for him to take a leap. I have no problem with his attitude, you can tell he's driven and wants it. Just doesn't have the tools.
This. Let's not giveaway Cam Whitmore until we fully find out his true potential. When given meaningful pt, he delivered.
Which is why Ive said we need to upgrade both backcourt players. Thats literally 77 million dollars next year on FVV and Green. Could be way better spent or used.
U upgrade the pg and then see how that affects your young team. Make your decisions from there, with due diligence. Smith green and eason didnt even hit double digits game 7. The shot distribution was all over the fking place and we didnt even get any open 3 looks
Not being argumentative, and also not saying youre giving excuses for him...but I wanted to point out Sengun was here for all that time too and was handled worse. Jalen was at least given tons of playing time and on court reps....high usage from day one. Silas didnt even want to play Sengun much less run offense through him. And Jalen also has more tools and natural ability to be successful at his position vs what Sengun is working with. Same teams, one with less physical tools, less of a chance...still wound up better. At some point the external factors become completely irrelevant and its 100% on the player themselves.
Yeah, Silas years definitely one reason that he did not play or get trained correctly from the beginning but Silas years have two sides as well. It's only under Silas tanking years, his minutes were guaranteed, he can play free-style as he wishes, he basically can do whatever he wants. Compare Year 2 to Year 1, his minutes increased but his FG% and 3P% dropped (3P% dropped further in Year 3). These are already early signs of his incompetence. Look at Sengun, same year rookie, under Silas years he even needed to fight for his starter position with Fernando. And see what Sengun becomes now, so I really think Jalen should not use Silas years as excuses. Since day one, the Rockets treated him as the future franchise player, after two years guaranteed heavy minutes of free-style playing and after two years strict, defense-oriented coaching, he still can't score consistently. I am just really frustrated...he is a loose end we should cut earlier when he was at his highest value. Nevertheless, I like your attitude.
I just don't know the answer, man...I'm so frustrated at Jalen. Everyone KNOWS I want him to succeed, but it's really hard when he plays like this--I've never been the highest on Cam but I believe you are 100% right on him not having games where he just doesn't get shots up. Cam will shoot 6/22 before 2/6, and sometimes that's what we need. I like Jalen a lot, I don't think he's a dummy, or that he doesn't have the ability to improve. I did feel bad when I saw how hard he was taking the loss--you could tell in his postgame interview that he was absolutely down. But I can't help but to talk a little **** because as a Rockets fan, he did not help my team go farther, and I wish we did. I also think you're totally right on the intangibles thing--maybe Jalen just doesn't have that extra stuff, but the funny thing was that I never really thought he was a bad intangibles player--he's a good teammate and he hustles really hard when he's engaged. But his mentality needs work. Even I can see that. As long as he's a Rocket he'll have my full support, but for today I'm just pissed.
I hear ya. I was a one time Green Stan. I was pro jalen through and through. And ill still root for him as long as hes a Rocket. Bit i just dont believe in him anymore. He lost me in game 1 last season. That game is when I "knew" he wasnt the guy. I too am frustrated because the guy we took 2nd overall and put so much into has not lived up to the billing. And it would be fine if he was just average or ok. But when your calling card is scoring and you come into the league calling yourself a bucket, having this much of a struggle to actually get buckets just isnt fair.
Jalen has shown a lot of potential. He is probably the most inconsistent player. Even his inconsistencies are inconsistent. There are sometimes daily, sometimes weekly, and sometimes monthly performance oscillations. Playoffs require you to win more than half of the games, and Jalen needs to be good more than half of the games, and I doubt he can be. Still, he is not a toxic player like KPJ.
This stat will pissed you off about Jalen Green in the series. He totalled 8 FG attempts in this series 3x, for the regular season he only had 1 game of 8 FG attempts. Besides the last 3 games of the season where the Rockets clinched #2, Green last shot under 10 FG attempts was over 3 months ago. All the games in the regular season this season against Dubs, he averaged 15 FG attempts. Cmon Green you injure, head not right, another baby on the way, or bet against Rockets?!?!?!?!? He catered to the Warriors big time.
The playoffs were too big for him, but a lot of players, including LeBron, have not been themselves in the playoffs. He can go one of two ways from here. He can either be passive like Andrew Wiggins and sit on his talent, or he can come out of his shell. But it has to be more than just be himself. He has to take actions this summer to ensure he can turn the corner on a single or double, and finish at the rim. He has the speed and athleticism to get into the lane, but he has to have the skill to draw contact and get the calls.
