Even if Jalen has like 2 or 3 more playoff dud performances the next couple years keep in mind: -Milwaukee gave up real value to trade for Monta Ellis.. whose GSW teams were plain awful, and didn't even make the playoffs a number of those years. Ellis still netting GS Andrew Bogut who was a core piece of those early championship teams. -The Rockets traded one of the most prized assets in the league in T-Mac's expiring contract (which the Knicks thought was their ticket to getting Lebron that Summer) ... for Kevin Martin who was on one of the worst teams in the league for years. -Then there is Bradley Beal who the Suns gave up a king's ransom to get where he hadn't been able to get his team to the playoffs since John Wall was in his prime. So guys I know that you all are down on Jalen here, but the thinking that this isn't a guy who will have any value on the trade market because of a playoff no-show dud is nonsense. Many teams around the league will talk themselves into Jalen being a nice pickup at worst, and at best a potential future young star player. Most teams also think the old trope that "Oh well if that players is here with OUR CULTURE just think of how much better he will perform." Teams always think this, and we are guilty of that here as well. Again... the Rockets traded ALOT to get Kevin Martin. Jalen Green has value.
It's not 20 mil more per season or even close to that, jalen will make 5 mil a year less next year and the year after, and if he picks up his player option he will make 8.5 less that season. Over the next THREE YEARS TOTAL, jalen will make about 18.5 less than Cade.
Great players are almost never streaky. They are process oriented and don't attempt things they haven't practiced a million times before. That's the difference between Amen and Jalen. It's why Amen is more consistent already in his second year. Jalen has never been consistent. There is nothing for him to work on at this point. He would literally have to start over. He's a fundamentally broken player. I'll give Mobley and Cade that. They've had issues for sure but you are starting to see the growth in their process. Suggs as well.
Did you bump your head? Lamelo Ball is injured every season and plays even less defense than Fat Luka.
No we haven't. We have never seen Jalen drag and mean mug back up the floor after screwing up. Jalen has been a professional on the floor. Just not a consistent one. Not only is Cam not consistent, hes a jerk as well. He still has a lot of growing up to do.
[Highlights] All the 86 field goal attempts by Jalen Green in the 7-game series against Golden State Warriors. He went 32/86 (37.2%) FG, 13/44 (29.5%) 3PT, 16/24 (66.7%) FT. First Round, 2025 NBA Playoffs
Did you suffer a Concussion wanting a Scrub like Fred VanVleet who has had a horrific season. Only 5 season games he shot well, Last 3 games in playoffs shot. Bad ankle, bad knee. Missing 40 games. Better to move on.
Going by the basic numbers, unless Cade Cunningham earns all-NBA honors (or) Jalen Green declines his third year PO, the difference looks to be $13,000,000 per season. Cade Cunningham, the former No. 1 overall pick, has agreed to a five-year, $224 million contract extension with the Detroit Pistons. This deal could potentially become worth up to $269 million if Cunningham earns All-NBA honors next season. This extension was a priority for Trajan Langdon, the Pistons' new president of basketball operations, as he looks to build around Cunningham. Average $45,000,000. Jalen Green signed a three-year, $106 million contract extension with the Houston Rockets. The deal, reported by ESPN, includes a player option for the third year, allowing Green to become a free agent before the 2027-28 season. Green was originally drafted by the Rockets at No. 2 overall in 2021. Average $32,000,000.
[Russillo] “The most damning part of this series is the Jalen Green conversation. When he had 38 that was the aberration. 7,9,8,11,12,8 in the other six games. It’s a bummer of a Jalen Green conversation, cause now he’s just in Amen’s way. If you bring him back next year he’s just in his way.“
It doesnt matter how good the Warriors are, or how the Rockets were coached through the series, a great offensive player finds ways to score..worse case he gets his team mates involved....Jalen has done none of that. Its his 4th year and he still has the same flaws. His handles are questionable, mentally he is not tough, undersized for his position/weak on contact. The 1st round pretty much exposed for what he is. I don't believe any longer that he can come overcome these short comings. I do believe Ime and management still believe in him. I hope if the opportunity comes this summer to pick up Book, you do it and package Jalen and Whitemore.
Disclaimer… haven’t read this whole thread. That being said Steph has 14 and 15 years on Green and Sengun respectively. His performance was disappointing but we forget just how young our team is.
The numbers i gave you are the actual numbers, it's 5 mil a year next year and year after, 8.5 year after that. The average is irrelevant. You can look it up on spotrac, it has the actual yearly numbers.
I said going into this series Jalen couldn't afford to be the team's weakest link and that's exactly what he was. A lot of the time you just know when a player is worthy of long term investment. I don't see that in Jalen after his 4th season and a lot of his flaws are between the ears. He was afraid most of this series and failed miserably to just be average. He didn't need to be anywhere near star level in this series against the likes of Podz and Hield and couldn't do anything outside of game 2. I don't want someone who is afraid and shrinks this time of year. I feel for his well being Jalen needs a fresh start somewhere else if possible. I don't think the fanbase collectively will embrace Jalen after this playoff series. They win if he was just average. That's tough to take.
a massively overrated 23 yr old DPOY. gotcha. also you just take whoever you want and deal with baggage later when you're last in the league. no room to make errors. if we had a chance to take cade and he didn't want to be here, would you still draft him? AND not taking him bc his dad didn't want him near KPJ is another black eye for stone for prioritizing KPJ
The worst part of all this Jalen Green stuff is that most of the people on the outside considered Jalen a young star player. They don't watch us or pay attention like we do and they just see the flash plays and big nights he has. Now his assery was on display for everyone to see and they got a close look at the crap we've been looking at for 4 years. I think this is why a lot of people were wanting to move on from him a while ago before everyone started to catch on. Also, that's why the time to move him is now because his value will only decrease from here.
It's my personal opinion which I'm entitled too. I would still have taken Cade. I guess it boils down to the fact that I wasn't big on Mobley cing out of USC. No argument from me on how poorly prioritizing KPJ was for the franchise
