I would say roast me or there I said it, but it's completely unnecessary. It's not even controversial. Highest draft pick. Highest floor. Highest ceiling. Highest scoring player. Highest drive to earn that title. Most room for improvement. Still incredible as is. If he's not our guy, I have no concept of what we've been doing. I know we've got Jabari, but the league is still in love with guards thanks to MJ. Alperen Sengun is an absolute stud, but he's not part of an anchored defense right now. Jalen isn't either, but he has the tools to get there. Amen doesn't have the shooting stroke to be that guy yet. Cam is playing 8 bit in a playstation world. Fred Van Vleet is coming in with a 2 year contract that shouts NOT IT and Dillon Brooks doesn't have an offensive game to build around. Jalen is it. There's not a thread about it but here it is. Jalen is on Team USA watch. Jalen is a highlight reel at times. Jalen does a lot that superstars do. He does need to switch gears and this offseason seems to be showing that, but behind the scenes, I bet every member of the Houston brass is thinking the same thing. Time to take the unoccupied throne. If he doesn't, players are waiting in the wings. Ime for All Star Game Head Coach! It's time to move up and move fast! Take the reign, Jalen. Win and it's yours.
All our guys have question marks. Too soon to anoint anyone. Big years for Sengun and Green, year 3 is a good indicator of who the player will be.
If anything I’m surprised that out of all our top prospects, Jalen hasn’t had this thread made SOONER! A team can have more than one franchise player...I believe we drafted a couple of ‘em
Polarizing… Everything stated above about him is true. He is also one of the worst defensive players in the league. Other players have career highs while he guards them, at times nightly when he is a funk sometimes lasting a couple of games in a row. He could be our franchise player, I look forward to seeing his growth. Go Rockets
Threads like these are made for players that are "unexpected" Green was drafted 2 with this being the expectation. So that's why there aren't people spamming threads or making 2000 comment threads about it.
Yeah ****ing right lol.. he does one thing on the court, which he does very inefficiently. Jalen Green is awful.. I do expect him to turn it around, but I’m not giving him credit until he earns it
I agree. I sound like a broken record, but go check out the list of players who averaged 22 at Green's age. The list is full of HOFers and few, if any, busts.
Highest drive based on what? Drivemeter isn't a thing so far. Maybe if they ever invent such machine we can tie it to players' balls, heart and measure that "It" factor. Most room for improvement ting again i don't like this idealistic aproach to the game. What does room supposed to mean? How do we know he's more likely to develop reliable 3pt than Cam or Tari? How and when exactly did he convince us that he will be better defender than Cam, Amen or Tari?
We know nothing about Cam... I don't know how Tari will ever project to be a better shooter than Green? That's a odd one to include lol. Tari already is a less efficient scorer than Green's either first or second season while not scoring anywhere close to the same rate off the dribble. Like Green takes significantly more difficult attempts and still is a more efficient scorer and is actually younger than Tari so I don't even know where there would be any avenue where you could see him becoming a better shooter than Green. Cam is such a wildcard I have no clue at this point. Amen and Tari is projected to be a better defense than Green due to their length.
Pre draft I had Jalen Green as the lighter version of MJ - Kobe of our time. Mentioned Green was thin at 19 and would get pushed around initially but would gain weight/muscle and start to own the League at age 21 ( in 3rd season ). Figured he was: predicted pre draft 178 lbs (rookie)...187 lbs ( 2nd yr)....*195 lbs (3rd yr) *Michael Jordan was around 198 lbs as a rookie Well, we've come to find out Jalen Green was: 173 lbs as a rookie...*184 lbs (2nd yr)....195 lbs (now) according to Kelly Iko. *Jalen Green interview before last season said he gained 11 lbs from previous yr and was now 184 lbs Now Green will get more calls when he drives and his body will absorb more contact and finish better. Green is a 3-tier level scorer in the half court, decent FT shooter, and will scare many in the fast break this year. Predicted Green in pts pre draft as: 22 pts (rookie)...25 pts (2nd yr)......28-30 pts (3rd yr) Has gone as: 17.3 pts (rookie).....22.1 pts (2nd yr).... ??? I say 25-26 pts this yr if VanVleet, holds the ball like Harden , according to Raptors fans. Started off-ball last season, then returned to point guard duties, where he mostly dribbled the air out of the ball. I say 27-28 pts this yr if VanVleet does like Kerr, BJ Armstrong, Paxton did for MJ....and just bring the ball up the court and then give it to Green, Sengun, Jabari. Then move to off-ball. Udoka will use the physical abilities of Green and re-define him as a good defender starting this season.
will he accept the role as he acceppted at team usa or he and his twin still be playing my turn your turn aau bb ,that is the q between him and greatness
I mean he isn't also going to be great if he plays the team USA select role either. Even Grant Hill who is one of the scouts responsible for assembling the Team USA roster said in an interview that Green wasn't featured much as he should. Obviously Green can help himself by getting some easy looks generated by teammates like FVV or Sengun but let's not ignore that Green has an elite trait that requires the ball in his hands, his dribble seperation ability that collapses defenses often. Out of all players on the squad he's most responsible for opposing defenses becoming out of position or collapsing because Green beat the perimeter defense. And it's not like whatever "AAU" style you call Green playing is hurting the team when he's in the 85th percentile in team on/off points per possession and 96th percentile in team on/off efg%. So when he steps off the court the offense tanks. There always is a healthy balance and the balance wasn't found in the team USA scrimmages. They played that scrimmage treating Green more like Tim Hardway Jr and Cade as Luka in terms of dominating possessions and Green isn't going to be an all time great playing the role of Tim Hardway Jr.
