There should be a choice "I'm back as a sucker again."

Seriously, Jalen's shooting looks to have finally come around. I'm still holding my breath, but hopeful.

He's still not at the "star" level yet. His ceiling may be capped by his lack of playmaking skills. If he can clear that hurdle, he can reach the level we hoped when we drafted him.

His efficiency has come around but big scoring numbers have exited other than 1 game.

January was a much better month than February......to be honest his best month so far.

Remember last season when Jalen’s offensive on/off numbers were trumpeted to the heavens daily and used as indisputable evidence of his positive impact?

Sure. So are you saying they are irrelevant now or relevant now?

I think you are the better candidate to ask that question to based on reading through this thread.

So are you principled and against using it in both this season and last season or are you saying you are a hypocrite also?

Im not the one who was spamming the stat left and right last year and now diminishing it’s relevance this year.

Im not the one claiming that choosing particular start and end dates to judge Jalen’s stats as arbitrary when one group does it and not arbitrary when another group does it.

Im principled in not picking and choosing.

So is the star not relevant or relevant?

That’s a good question. My answer would be…maybe? From what I have always read the sample size and all the outside factors that go into the stat make it hard to know for sure. I think sometimes it’s blatantly obvious when on/off numbers are statistically nailing the reality of what’s happening on the court, sometimes they make no sense.

But again my issue isn’t really with the specific stat. It’s the picking and choosing when it’s relevant. It either is or it isn’t or you better have some overwhelming evidence as to why in specific cases it’s wrong when usually right or right when it’s usually wrong.

My answer to the poll in this thread?

    “Happy, but…”

Oh man thank god, I was surprised I thought you had joined the dark side.

I'm ok with 99% of clutchfans and 99% of Jalen critics. That's a totally different thing than Jaters. The Jaters must take the trash talk in exactly the amount they dished it out.

To be fair, I think us Jalen fans ARE the dark side for a some folks, so perhaps we've been the villains the whole time. On the other hand, if Jalen turns into the death star and starts annihilating everybody on the opposing team...I'd be very ok with that.

edit: and he has a chance to do it against OKC!

    Oh dude, don't even try.

At every single point you said he is what he is, and he's not what he was anymore, and he will be better in the very near future.

If he was what he was when you first said it, we wouldn't have this upgraded Jalen.

Despite your attempt to jump on the big boat here, you have always described him as underwhelming with no or some redeeming qualities.

You thought everyone is on your boat. Look at the people who voted in your category. Look at their posts for the past 2 years. That's not your crew.

Your boat is those 13 people in option 4. Enjoy the voyage.

He needs to join all of Amen's tape sessions and they should just talk about what they're seeing. Be humble enough to recognize when a younger player has the right idea.

This is my annoyance with you.

When did I utilize this stat? Was it to make claims that Green is better than Sengun for example?

Or was it to combat claims of extreme rhetoric like saying Green tanks the offense?

You never take into consideration what my end state premise im combating or defending.

I didn't use on/off stats last season to make a blanket claim that Green as our best player last year(he was for a month stretch by that's it).

So I use the stat in context to specific claims that you would even deem as extreme. I don't use it to make claims about him being the best player on the team.

So no, I never used on/off as a be all end all stat. If someone was going to make an extremist claim like "Green is our worst offensive player", ya I'm going to bring up that stat last year. It's that simple.

And you seem to get offended only towards one way of perceived inconsistency. And ts towers the direction of any praise towards Green. Haven't seen you pull this hypocrisy card the other direction.

Anyways you really have done a poor job at deflecting from answering my question on whether the state is relevant now or not.

If you came into this with good faith you wouldn't run into this problem because you'd I good faith already know I used that stat last season to only combat extreme claims.

Amen has deficiencies that probably will never make him be at Green's potential as a scorer(fluidity of shooting mechanics) but the same can be said the other way with Green never being able to have Amen's playmaking ability.

Amen has some inherent traits that will always make him a better passer. Being taller makes him see the floor better. Bigger hands and strength makes him able to whip passes that aren't lazy while carrying his momentum the opposite direction. Green has issues with this and can't throw mustard behind his pass in those situations when Amen can. Dude can zip passes to the farthest part of the three point line right into the pocket of a open shooter while his body has full momentum going out of bounds while under the rim. That is something Jalen simply can't do.

Yes, another person's potential can make some folks feel bad.

Differentiating between what is good and bad for you is extremely important in life. There's no absolute truth, but you have to set boundaries and guiding lines for yourself. It's medically mentally not good for you to treat everything the same.

I appreciate your optimism but I'm flat out not the same as someone who's on a negative pattern all the time. I have been that in the past and because of hard work I am better than them at that now. We can all get that way for a day or even a week. Those who are that way for years are unhealthy.

My advice is not to lump yourself in with that, it can normalize some of those behaviors for you.

The best part is, we get to watch these two generational athletes with wildly different skillsets grow together and build chemistry for years to come (hopefully). I hope next season we can use our athleticism a bit better, especially as Amen/Jalen/Reed get more experience as play initiators. All three are pretty good at throwing outlet passes, and Amen and Jalen run the break like cheetahs.
