The only way either player gets an extension is if it is not a max one, and they take the money......just the way the market is at this time for them both.

Sengun is much closer to a finished product, Jalen is still such a mercurial scorer at one moment, and a terrible defender and lost in the next.....you don't pay those players max deals...you trade them.

If Sengun signs an extension, one of Brooks or Green must be traded for an expiring contract before the deadline in order to maintain next summer's cap space.

Given no one else on this roster can frequently beat their man outright on the perimeter while we have two defensive aces behind Brooks, it will obviously be Brooks.

In truth I don't believe they'll sign an extension but I would be fine with them dumping Brooks. However, we'd be taking a risk so I would expect at least some discount on the max.

Who would you have in mind?

I'm not seeing many FA I'd rather have than our own guys, tbh.

Haven't looked into who's an FA, imo these days cap space is more about offering a team a rebuild package in exchange for their star. Meaning, we take $60-70m off their books and attach a couple of picks.

Signing people outright is very rare these days. Very small chance that happens in any summer. What I expect is one of these guys to be available by next summer after a disappointing season:

    Giannis
    Morant
JJJ (not MVP calibre, but elite fit)
    Booker

We choose based on whoever stepped up this season. Playoffs are when most new targets break loose so till then it's just a guess. The players who will be available next summer won't seem available right now so who knows.

Even if we have the cap space and don't need anyone - then we can just move forward and look at early extensions for Bari and Tari. Another alternative is we acquire a short term "topper" like Durant or Jimmy Butler who are not needed to carry us but just to get over a hump.

Either way, I think we should have massive flexibility next summer when we go from phase 2 to phase 3.

We just need expirings and 2nd round picks for Brooks. His replacement is already on the roster.

Agree completely. Giannis would be the main target. Booker the 2nd target, but only if Jalen doesn’t turn the corner.

Hmmm, what if Amen Thompson and Reed Sheppard are the franchise players? Ever think about that one?

(It's probably Sengun and somebody else who will be our #1 and #2 guys in some order. Not sold the other guy is Jalen though.)

I would certainly say that it's more likely than not that Sengun, Sheppard, and Amen are all keepers, as for "franchise players", we'll just have to wait and see.

I think if any of those 3 end up legitimately being franchise player level, the Rockets should be set for several years of contention coming up.

It's always very telling when grown "men" act like little children in their responses. But then, does anybody expect anything less from the man who spent all year defending a woman beater? He's a straight up scumbag.

"Operating off of Alperen. He gets double-teamed a lot, so we should be getting a lot of open looks..."

They had some great moments last season right before Alpi's injury. Looking forward to seeing that blossom more and less of FVV meandering back and forth between screens in the lane and slowing everything to a crawl.

The hype train is real for sure. Especially if Tari comes back and he or Amen supplant Brooks (likely.)

    This is me.

I'm sold on Sengun being a Top 3 guy on a team.

I hate inefficient play from a player with high usage. I've seen Green make a lot of improvements in his game, but it is tough to be efficient with that many 3 point attempts and that low of a 3 point percentage without dominating in another area of the game. If he improves his efficiency consistently, he's going to become the type of player I love. I don't think it is easy jumping from inefficient high usage onball to efficient high usage onball or even efficient average usage off ball. I have doubts that the Rockets will know if he's going to become the man before the trade deadline.
