I assure you stephen A Smith isn't the reason. He was barely mediocre in his best year and abjectly bad in his others. Not as bad as the candy man or Bennett but a clear cut bust none the less
I guess we'll have to disagree. Busts come in many shapes and sizes. To me, there are different tiers of busts. Some people consider Andrew Wiggins a bust because he didn't live up to expectations. A tier below that would be guys like, I don't really know, Evan Turner and Dion Waiters I guess. I'm not going to do a deep dive here but these guys come to mind. Jalen Green could still be in this tier of bust. But that bottom tier, the guys that show up on the "top 10 bust" lists, the guys who are famous for how bad they are, guys like Hasheem Thabeet and Darko Milicic...I just think Jalen has already proven enough that he's out of this tier. He might work out, he might not, but he's never going to be in that category. That category is reserved for guys who can't even get on the court and can't even score in double digits.
The only thing silly here is you being mad I think Jalen, Sengun and the rest of the rookies are great, lol.. stay mad, I guess.
Hey, sorry, not gonna let you get away with this one pal. I asked you a simple question. You stated Green is a generational talent. I asked for why you think that. It speaks volumes you cannot provide a reason, and your first instinct is attempting a witty retort whilst avoiding the question. I know why you can't provide a reason, I knew beforehand you wouldn't be able to provide a reason. It makes it even funnier seeing your response to a simple question.
Christ, if you're going to gaslight at least be better at it. It obviously wasn't just a simple question. You're bad a playing coy. Just look at the second sentence of your post. Like the man said stay mad.
Why not just look at the first sentence? Where I posed the simple question? If you're going to d*ckride a bad player, pick a better bad player. Can't dribble in traffic. Can't shoot. Can't defend to save his life. Can jump high. SuPeRsTaR Numbers OFF THE CHARTS bad no matter which metric you look at. SuPeRsTaR b-b-b-b-b-ut 11 minutes Hahahaha. See I can make stupid comments too. You know what's not a stupid comment? THANK GOD the team drafted Sengun to make up for Green.
This is a great example of nuance that's needed in these kind of discussions. Maybe Green turns out to be a more slightly consistent version of Gerald Green and that means he's a solid starter for a good team...would still be a bit of a bust for most Rocket fans I assume as most of us are hoping he's at least Fringe/Borderline All-star player... But Wiggins is a good example of this kind of Bust. Clearly he busted for Minnesota who was hoping to get a franchise player with him but he's clearly a starting level wing on most teams. He's not the perennial all-star some hoped for him to be but clearly not a bust on the level of Thabeet or someone like that. But busts are certainly relative to the context too and the draft they are in. You'll NEVER hear someone say Tyson Chandler was a bust despite being a #2 overall pick because he had a long career doing what he was drafted to do. I've never once heard anyone say Chandler was a bust, I'm sure maybe there are some Bulls fans that think that though lol... Personally, I think people should throw out bust labels for like a season or two. Some guys take time. I personally think Green was getting better before he got hurt, he seemed to figure out that he could drive and get fouled more and he was shooting slightly better IIRC. But hey, what do I know. I do know there's some CFer out there ready to serve crow, saving the links for all these extreme takes...so be careful what you say.
Great point on Chandler. He and Eddy Curry were supposed to serve as future Twin Towers for them. Too early. Too soon. Bulls also drafted Jay Williams after Yao. Also struggled like Green is now after talking Big. I would escape from GARM on a bike in a moment's notice if word got out that Jaylen had a similar boneheaded injury... It's still mixed bag when it comes to drafting teens... Next few years will test Jaylen. It's not what we see right now that'll prove his value, it's what we dont. Here's to staying positive in him working at it during the off-season.
Ah yes. The old Jalen Only Fan schtick. Literally can never retort by providing evidence of anything Jalen-positive. Hey guess what. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck. Guess what. It is a duck. Now replace duck with 'bad player'. And you have Jalen Green. Now on the flipside. If it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck. Guess what. It is a duck. Now replace duck with 'good player'. And you have Sengun. But hey, you keep living in your fantasy world. Since it's literally the only place where anyone has positive things to say about Jalen's performance on the court this year. Haha. Jumps high. Superstar. 11 minutes. Superstar. REEEEEEEEEE your facts don't agree with my delusion therefore you are stupid <- quack quack. That's you clown.
Untrue. There are a lot of positives to pull from in 18 games, especially in the context of a Wood-Theis starting lineup. Also of note, playing next to first time PG Kevin Porter Jr. Jalen Green has had a lot to overcome this year. Haven't seen anyone say this... Cute post. I like how you included ducks.
Haha man....Eddy Curry......... But yeah, Chandler had a good career. Won a championship, a gold medal, played in an all-star game, made some defensive teams but if you're comparing his career to what you expect a #2 pick to be...you'd say "Bust." but I've honestly never heard anyone call him a bust before but I think you could make a good argument that he was for the team that drafted him. If you look back at his scouting report it looked like some thought he could develop more of an offensive game and that just never happened for him. I've never seen Chandler on any top 10 bust lists or anything close to that, most will say he had a good career...Bulls fans might feel differently though i dunno lol while Hornets(New Orlean Hornets...it's confusing...) might have more respect for his career and Maverick fans might be retiring his jersey one day for helping deliver their only championships... So it really is relative for players like that. He certainly was a bust for the bulls, at least if I were a Bulls fan, I'd think that. They drafted him 2nd and he was nothing more than a good starter for them. I think that's always disappointing. I mean its different for a guy that leaves your team but was a great player there, like say Carmelo wasn't a bust obviously, he clearly was a super duper star while he played in Denver then(foolishly) left them..but a guy that was mediocre at his first stop...is that guy a bust? If you look at what people expected of Green when we drafted him it was...really high. People want him to be a top SG in the NBA...well he's far from that, it's going to take time for him to get there, at least people should go into his development with that in mind. I'd love for him to prove me wrong though, flip a switch when he gets back and drop 18 a night or something...but I'm sure not expecting it.
Generational talent is a tad overblown, even Kobe was not considered a generational talent when he was drafted, he later became one. Otherwise he would not have been taken at Position 13. In the definition a generation normally compasses 20-30 years. Lebron,Trae, KD, Harden, Westbrook, Steph - those are generational talents in the latest generation Kawhi is a late generational one. Jokic, Luka and Antetokounmpo are generational European players. Zion is questionable at this point. Guys like Jaylen Brown and Tatum I consider borderline generational. Jalen Green objectively is at least one tier below. Primarily because he is not known for Defense, high efficiency shots and an Allround game. Can he get better at this? Likely, but get better at it to lead the league? Very hard. That brings us to the definition - He very likely would be a generational scorer. JRich, Eric Gordon, Kevin Martin, Jamal Crawford did not even make an All Star Game. And those were pretty good scorers.
Wiggins is okay ish but by far not generational talent. I cannot remember. Did WIggins have this many Wiggins groupies or were they from Canada? I mean Green has not done anything in the league and posters here were literally salivating. Talking about doing the right PR work. Uncanny. I might be wrong but Jalen Green screams skinny Eric Gordon without the accuracy to me, the very Eric Gordon that is playing for us. Safe to say Eric Gordon is much better than Gerald Green. Now Gordon with luck would have made an Allstar appearance. People hope he could be an SG version of Bernard King.
