I’ll be interested in what Chet’s weight looks like during pre draft stuff. I think he’ll be over 200 lbs. Gonzaga last listed him at 195 lbs. I watched almost all of Gonzaga’s games and to me he looked like he put on a little muscle over the course of the season. If you look at some of the early pics/vids like vs Easter Oregon/ Duke and then look at him vs Arkansas he looks like he had been working out a bit. Also I could be tripping but: Vs Vs
From all reports he’s a gym rat, tough as nails and has some swag to him. Combine that with his natural ability and his ability to play in and out of structure, he’s got the highest upside in the draft. Jabari is close, but that length puts Chet on a slightly higher level.
Injury concerns …durability issues. You guys that keep chirping these things as reasons why to avoid Chet realize that injuries can happen to anyone, any size and at any time right? Dwight Howard looked indestructible until he wasn’t. Grant Hill had a near perfect bill of health until his ankle injury. Penny Hardaway was a future HOFer until he racked up injuries. Just because the kid is skinny doesn’t make him any more injury prone than a muscle bound big. The Rudy Gobert, Clint Capelas, Jokics of the league aren’t going to put Chet into any body bag.
CF would’ve said Giannis too skinny and too much of an injury risk he literally had flamingo legs do not want KG, he will get bodied Mobley came into the league built like a flag pole…he was supposed to get decimated if u let CF tell it
They’d give Giannis and KG passes because they can’t compare them to Shawn Bradley for obvious reasons. Fun fact: Bradley played at least 70 games in the regular season seven times in his 12 year career. So these “Chet’s like Shawn Bradley and I’m worried about his durability” folks are either totally stupid or something worse
And it is not at all like the rockets did not just “compete” for the last decade plus??? This is a 3 year span where they keep their picks for 3 seasons then start giving them up. Which also is the SAME EXACT timeline of when the dead weight of Wall’s contract ends. It is just such a stupid notion that the rockets are stupid and ignorant of the situation and they should be trying to “compete” with all of these variables working together on the same timeline. Asinine is an understatement.
Fast forward 5 years when Jalen leads the league in scoring and we’re one of the top seeds in the West Anti-tankers: I love my Rockets. I knew they’d be back as a perennial playoff team.
Morrison was a prolific scorer at Gonzaga but didn’t defend like Chet did. Even if Chet never becomes a 20ppg scorer his defense should still make him an above average player at worst.
Paolo is a poor man’s Gallinari Jabari is a poor man’s Ryan Anderson with defense Anymore ridiculous comps?
old article I’d like to see updated. It points to a higher games missed rate for taller players. Pretty old though and subsequent healthy play from embid and Giannis could have swayed it. https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/tall-players-like-joel-embiid-are-more-prone-to-injury/
Statistically, the closest collegiate player to Chet is probably Jaren Jackson Jr and his one season at Michigan State.
If that’s his floor, you take that imo. A longer, potentially better offensive JJJ is a damn good player
I can definitely understand the trepidation if Chet had injuries in high school or college. But the kid hasn’t had any known injuries so forecasting any injuries and making it a concern is reaching. I rather bring up concerns like his free throw percentage than focus on something that no one really has a control over like injuries.
his lack of ability to initiate concerns me. He’s not a fluid athlete. But he is highly skilled with tremendous upside. if the rox do their due diligence and determine Chet’s the guy. I’m sold. I bring up the article just because I’m curious if it were to be updated - would it’s premise even be valid.
Chet isn’t fluid? That’s one of his strengths, not many his size with that mobility, fluidity and coordination
Im comparing him to Giannis and Durant. I don’t see Chet as a put the ball on the floor and initiate guy. That’s not his skillset.
Ahh, yeah he’s not on Giannis level as an athlete. Similar athlete to KD, but not with ball in his hands. If he develops anything remotely close to KD with the ball, he’s a top 5 guy in the league
