I guess you ignore the teams record?

O'Brien can win games. Jags hiring him would not be a good result.

Can't until he does. O'Brien got as far as Kubiak did in Houston. Next stop, Kubiak won a Super Bowl. He doesn't have to win in the playoffs to screw the Texans. He can beat them twice a year and do damage.

Nobody here is going to admit Kubiak is a good coach when he is not on the Texans
O’Brien is a good football coach and he’s a proven winner if he’s not trading players away
And he’s coached in this division.
Once Jacksonville gets talent and develops Trevor
They can be like what Cincinnati has with Burrow this year

BoB is an offensive coordinator at his best.

He is a bad, bad, bad, NFL head coach. He has no people skills off the field and no tactical skills on the sideline.

He was even worse as a GM.

Other than that, I recommend him for a HC job, absolutely.

It’s actually good if he did go to the Jags to see if they can complete with the Texans for improvements because both teams are at the bottom

Why so posters care so much about people skills?

Winning is all that matters and unfortunately BOB reached his ceiling down on Kirby when it came to winning.

People skills contribute to winning and the ability to maintain success and buy-in. Lack of people skills contributes to players tuning out or coach getting fired before they have a chance to implement whatever it is they're trying to do.

On the positive extreme, think Phil Jackson and his ability to use people skills to get the best out of his team. On the negative, think Tom Herman at Texas who's lack of people skills may have gotten him run out of town before he could reach his potential.

That said, people skills are only one element of success. Bill Belichick proves that lack of people skills can be overcome in other ways if you can consistently win - but you have a shorter leash and less margin for error. The Philly coach who won a Superbowl and then got fired a couple of years later when all his players lost interest/trust is a good extreme example of that.

In general, not being an ******* has benefits.

As long as you win that's all that should matter.

Looking down throughout time, all of the great HC's from Halas, Lombardi down to Belichick were rough around the edges and didn't care for the media or have great people skills. What they were , was football coaches who the game meant everything to them, it was their singular focus. This lead to an environment of respect within the NFL/players circles. In short they didn't care about anything but football and having their teams ready to play to the best of their abilities each week. It's what a football coach should be. They should treat the media as a necessary evil but not let that get in the way of the reason they got their job to begin with.

This is how the great coaches of the past have been successful. This is also something that this generation seems to struggle to understand. I actually love when Belichick treats the media like he does when they ask dumb questions.

They need to be better at their jobs and stick to football questions instead of social or snowflake type questions. Why? because football fans dont care about all of that other stuff.

To clarify, I think when Buck was talking about people skills, it was in relation to the players and team, rather than the media. Being able to connect with players, build trust, work well with your front office, etc all contributes to winning. Being an ass means you're more likely to lose the locker room, have dysfunction in the organization, etc.

    That wasn't a problem with BOB's teams.

    They played hard for him.

The Texans had camaraderie under BOB. It's why they were able to start off a season 1-4 and win 9 games in a row.
