Actually, the first one off the list I thought funny was Kenyon Martin over Yao, but he also didn't even mention Shawn Marion, Jason Terry, Gary Payton, Antoine Walker (comeback player of the year, IMO) and some others I'd put ahead of Yao at this point. So I see what he's saying.

Why are we talking about Yao in a Steve/Cat thread again?

Yao alters the game way more than Antoine freakin Walker, who never played any defense in his lifetime. Yao is the centerpiece of our defense, and a major cog in our offense. Jason Terry? okaaaaaaaay.

On that list, I'd only concede Bryant/Payton being better than our backcourt. The next best after us is Nash/Finley, who are close -- but I'd prefer our pair to theirs.

I don't know about 'Toine not playing any D...he did muscle up Shaq in the Lakers game early on. He looks like a new player from what I saw of him, including playing some D.

Although I wouldn't put him ahead of Yao, I put Yao in the top 30 players, maybe top 25, but definitely not in the top 20. Good call there Juugie.

In another thread, I made a list of 25 players that could be considered better than the 2nd best center in the league.

    Shaq
    Kobe
    TMac
    Duncan
    Garnett
    Iverson
    Vince Carter
    Paul Pierce
    Webber
    LeBron
    Nowitzki
    Ben Wallace
    Jermaine O'Neal
    Karl Malone
    Pao Gasol
    Jason Kidd
    Kenyon Martin
    Baron Davis
    Marbury
    Amare
    Rasheed
    Zach Randolph
    Peja
    Rashard Lewis
    Elton Brand

You know, after looking at that list and thinking about it, I don't feel so bad about the Rockets struggling. We don't have a single top 25 player. I would put Yao and Steve as top 30.

Without a single top 25 player, I think we have seriously overestimated the talent on this team. It is right about where it should be record wise when you look at it objectively.

If either Steve or Yao raises their level into top 15/20 then we could say they are underacheiving. But until then, the Rockets are what they are - a slightly above average team that beats the teams it should but has trouble against the better teams.

    What do you think?

I don't doubt that we have a good STARTING backcourt...but it's when it gets to the backups that we really start sucking.....

I think these are the only people you could conclusively say that's better than Yao and/or Steve. The others are arguable. I'll say why in a second.

For all the blind people who think Steve/Cat is even a top 15 guards combo, they need to watch the tape against the Jazz. where 3 rookie guards are dominating over them.

    Juugie --

Vince Carter -- you do realize that if all Steve wanted to do was score and get 2 rebounds a game like Carter does (at 6-7!), he could do it too right? I'm not a fan of one dimensional players.

Paul Pierce -- in previous years maybe, but look at his stats this year. Great shooter, but without 'Toine in the lineup he's hurting to carry the team.

Webber -- would be better than Yao, but soft as hell and only plays 50 games a season. Not worth it.

LeBron -- wow, after 14 games of 16-6-6 you're way too high on him. francis was at least this good rookie season, don't be too quick to judge.

Karl Malone -- not better than Yao at age 40. Put Yao on the Lakers, and he's putting up the same stats. Smart player though, I am a fan of Karl Malone.

Pao Gasol -- it's PaU, and he's not as good as Yao. You can pretty ask any scout in the league.

Kenyon Martin -- overrated. yeah he's improved, but he's never going to be a great player. remember that one year he was like "some people just don't show up everyday..." well he doesn't either.

Baron Davis -- this season he is... but will it last?

Marbury -- marbury is good, but most teams would rather have Yao I think.

Amare -- check the Stats, Yao is better across the board.

Rasheed -- 3 years ago, I would have said Rasheed Wallace was better than Kevin Garnett. Now? Better than Yao? You're kidding me right?

Zach Randolph -- pretty good, but you need more than 15 games at 20-10 before you can be labeled a top tier player.

Peja -- okay... maybe you have a point here.

Rashard Lewis -- not an all star... yet. you're too high on him too early.

Thats your opnion, you obvisouly dont know what your talking about. How did you put webber in that list when he hasnt even played a single game this year, or Brand hes played 1 game and you put him over yao, Gasoll, Randoph over yao? I also like how you did not put one rocket on that list, could this come from our 1-4 road trip? probaly.

Ask anyone else, Steve and yao will be in the top 20 players in the league, could even make a arguement for Cuttino.

I was with you every step of the way until the last word of your post. Cuttino is good... but so soooo far away from top 20.

Cuttino is a scorer, once he starts getting the feeling he can almost score any time he wants. Also plays good D. Though he dosent all seem to make smart moves but athletic wise maybe, though hes not top 10 or top15 but defitnaly top 20 so far this season.
