If you do want to trade SF, the best FEASIBLE case scenario is to trade for Paul Pierce. Danny wants the team to run more and he got lots of blame for trading away Walker.

If Rox can trade SF, Cat, MoT to Boston, maybe Boston is willing to part with Pierce and their PG. At least for Danny, he won't be blamed by Boston fans for trading away Pierce and he gets 3 starters and a running team. The Celtics will be a perennial playoff contender in the east.

Then Rox will get a legitimate top-3 SG, Boston's PG plus filler without long team contracts involved. In the short run, the Rox team might suffer, but with SG and C in place, the team can build on it and has enough cap room to sign a PF in the offseason.

Pierce is a better player than Ray Allen. Allen is getting old.

Maybe Pierce is worse than Steve.

Exactly. He's more or less saying if Franics can't fit into JVG's basic principles, then he needs to be traded. I don't see where it says that JVG should "back down first". In fact Dr. Jack says that Francis' style has never produced a winner and the inside game with Yao is more effective...I guess DnD tried to make this as Pro-Francis as possible.

Pierce is a top-3 SG, he is not a PG. Check the stats before you talk:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?statsId=3253

Pierce as a SG averages 23.4 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 5.3 APG. He is not going to run the point for you. As a SG, PP is better than SF and Cat offensively and defensively.

I said the trade was feasible because Danny can get 3 starters for 1 starter. He has to think really hard before rejecting it. The only thing he has to be concerned is that he has to take these long term contracts.

Rox, without taking other long term contract except PP, can be a player on the FA market during the off season. Anybody thinks R. Wallce ?

FYI Pierce for Francis, Mobley and Taylor is short $13m in Boston contracts to HOU. Or roughly double what Pierce makes.

BTW...why would Ainge expect Francis and Mobley to run fastbreaks in BOS when they are last in the league in FB points now? And no...it's has nothing to do with Van Gundy...Francis sets the pace for transition offense.

I know, that's why I said it needs salary filler and imagination.

But Danny has to think hard about it, 3 starter for 1 starter. Top 4 team in the east behind Detroit, Indiana and NJ still with a chance to get to the conference final and maybe final.

Well, if he's gonna give Steve a bigger leash, Yao needs to be in on it.

We all see Yao's the hardest working guy on the offensive end. He's getting beat up by defenders while trying to establish himself in the post. If the ball isn't going to go down to the post, Yao shouldn't have to fight for position. Don't make him waste energy out there.

Why does everyone want to trade Francis for another SG like Pierce, McGrady, or Ray Allen? That's what got us into this mess in the first place. We don't need a superstar to run our offense, we just need a solid passer, who can make out shot shots. Not someone who will want or need to take 20+ shots a game.

Dr. Jack is entirely correct here of course, but it's the same thing most of this board, with the exception of a few people, have been saying for months. Francis needs to be traded, let's just hope the proper deal materializes sometime in the next week.

It has nothing to do with imagination. Unless HOU is willing to take on Vin Baker, the only other large salaries BOS has are Raef LaFrentz and Ricky Davis. In your base scenario, you have tied up both Boston and Houston's largest trade assets - Pierce and Francis...therefore no 3rd will get involved with an equal player if they are only to receive their choice of 2 of Mobley, Davis, LaFrentz or Taylor.

Your whole premise lacks any reasonability.

    A rookie post?

generally speaking, a team needs two super stars to win a championship. SF is too short for SG, he is 6'2? he can't defend an ordinary SG, let alone a star SG, who is typically 6'6" above. Now people are saying SF can't play the point. If that's true, then Steve has no position to play on the court, but he is athletic as hell.

Pierce and McGrady are legitimate SG, tall, strong, can shoot and defend other SGs. These are superstar material.

Cat is playing the SG position, but he is SHORT as well, and can't defend Kobe or McGrady. Sooner or later, when the Rox plays in the WFC, who is going to defend the opponent's SG?

    Got that?

If you trade SF, you can't EXPECT to get another all-star legitimate PG because why would teams do that? GMs are not stupid. Therefore you have to trade SF for a player playing another position.

By the way, people are saying Iverson is short but plays the SG position. Well, that's why the 76ers has not won a ring yet. Understood ?

I totally agree with you. I think SF tried to do the right thing, but he just could not make it work for him.

I thought I made this clear, we don't need an all-star point guard, we don't need a Marbury, we need a Jason Williams, someone solid, who can pass well, without turning it over. We've got enough firepower on this team, bringing in someone like Pierce or Ray Allen leaves us again without a true point guard and creates the problems of serious ego clashing, (why would they be more likely to defer to JVG and Yao than Steve is?)

Look at every good Western team, all of them have a solid passer running the point, except us. (Memphis, Denver, LA, Dallas, Minn, and Sac.) Gary Payton and Cassell are both past their primes, Nash, Bibby, Miller, and Williams aren't superstars, just good solid players, yet it's the good passing that gets it done, because they make other players on the team better. Paul Pierce doesn't do this, AI doesn't do this, and Ray Allen doesn't do this, that's why they couldn't even lead their teams to continous success in the weak eastern conference.

    Check the salary first.

Salarywise, PP 1 mil larger than SF's. Boston has Chris Mills $6.6 mil expiring contract and Steward's 4.4mil. These two are large contracts to match Cat's 5.4 and MoT's 7.8.

The problem is SF's BYC status, houston can only take back half of Steve's salary from Boston. But Houston does have the $7mil trade exception from the Jazz trade.

    Please think hard.
