If it was anybody but the all-time leading scorer in NBA history and a 5-time champion, I might roll my eyes. But the only player who deserves to be honored this way in Los Angeles more than Kareem is Magic. I would go so far as to say that he is more deserving of the honor than West. Certainly more than Mr. Hearn (sorry, not a big fan of sportscasters getting recognition- maybe in the sportscasters hall of fame, but not here, just my opinion), and definitely more than De La Hoya. Gretzky? Well, he's the best-ever in hockey- just on overall alone, it should be: Magic, Kareem, Gretsky, West, and Hearn. You might argue that Kareem was even greater than Magic.
No. His interview on Colbert was last night. Colbert asked him about his recent comment. Your timeline is wrong.
I hope they make one of him. Followed by one of Magic, Shaq, Kobe, Shaw, Fox, Horry, Cassell (who cares if he was on the wrong side of LA), Gasol, Artest, Grant, 40 yr old virgin Green, Fisher, Payton, Nickolson, and many more. Just so the fact that having a statue of yourself in front of the Staples Center would mean jack schitte. Then players and people would stop caring about them.
Aaaah ic. A la retired jerseys. After that they will start building temples/shrines for great players lol.
Kareem deserves a statue. The fact that he's crying about getting one makes me want to see that it doesn't happen for him.
You do know they named the STREET at Staples Center after Hearn, right? Chick Hearn is a Laker legend probably second only after the Logo.
As I said earlier if you are going to look at what they've done for the city Gretzsky should not be there since I believe his best years were in canada or NY. Its like saying the wizards need a statue of Jordan because MJ had 6 rings and multiple MVPs. Hoya has done nothing either he is the biggest befuddlement to me. Kareem won 5 titles with the Lakers and 3 national titles with UCLA - (not that UCLA is affiliated with Staples but we're talking about achievements for the city of Los Angeles) And Hearn is the greatest broadcaster of all time of any sport IMO (biased of course having listening to him growing up in LA all the time i mean the guy invented so many basketball phrases used today like - slam dunk and air ball) he is the biggest Laker Legend of them all and was a father figure to all the Laker greats. I am pretty sure the city of LA would get pissed if any Laker great from 2002 (when Hearn passed away) and before suggested that Hearn wasnt anything but the greatest Laker ever. Kareem deserves the statue just as much as West and Magic do as players but Magic and West are much more in the public eye now and back when they were players and more likeable so they got theirs first. I do think this sadly will look a bit poor on Kareem when he does get his statue there.
They were talking about this on the radio this week apparently all you need to get a star is to be in the public eye in some sort of way (actor/radio etc) and just get sponsored by someone who already has a star. No real major contributions are actually needed just someone to really pony up the money and nominate. We should try to get Clutch a star on the walk of fame
That's the first thing that came to my mind when I heard this on the radio.. isn't it forbidden to worship idols such as statues?
oh that must happen. if the tripping dance club door manager dude diaries can't arrange this then what good is he. lap this .... diary man YoYo and all will do this way before diary man. Wonder Powers A c t i v a t e
Every time I hear Magic or Jordon or any other legend or team icon talk, I feel blessed that we had the honor of having Hakeem and his amazing grace as our GOAT.
