Are you going to resign Ingram cuz you know it’s his contract year. I don’t mind trading Jabari but I want to trade him for what he was suppose to be: a long term solution. Now if your goin to resign Ingram(to max money because that’s how he perceives his value and he’s not taking a discount) then by all means do it and they’re going to want another young piece . You’ll probably have to throw in Cam
Jabari biggest offensive attribute is his versatility or I guess willingness to guard any position. Hes not good at guarding those position but he won’t run form any defensive assignment. Can’t remember the last time I seen him shutdown someone
In no time, I've gone from worrying about Jalen to worrying about Jabari. It's not just the shooting. It's everything. He's freaking out when pressured. He's throwing the ball away, or nearly throwing it away, with weak or ill-advised passes. He's letting guys bully and intimidate him under the basket, beyond what his physique should allow. He's going through the motions of on-ball defense, but he's melting away when challenged. Occasionally, he uses his length to do something commendable, like a nice block. And he does try to rebound. And I appreciate his commitment to do the right things mechanically when defending the ball. But the word that keeps coming to mind when I see him play is: beta. We have a team full of guys who show the will to fight, to defend, to get to the basket, to get the loose ball. And then we have this guy who shrinks back and stands in the corner and looks for the first opportunity to unload the ball. He reeks of beta. And for all his physical gifts, I worry that a beta personality is one of those things that can't be fixed.
I worry a lot more about Jalen. Jabari has a much easier path to being useful, and the Rockets haven't made a big comittment to him yet. Jalen has a higher ceiling, but it is not easy reaching that ceiling for a moderatley high usage player.
My biggest disappointment with Jabari is that I thought he'd be the safest draft pick the Rockets have had these past year. His archetype lacks upside but also should've lacked downside. And the problem is that somehow he's kinda not good at anything these days. That said, prospects has always been a numbers game. At least Amen and Tari are blossoming. Alongside Sengun that's 3 players that you can see being in the starting lineup of an eventual contender. And if one of Cam or Reed blossoms, that's still not a bad haul for a rebuild even if Jalen and Jabari busts.
I completely forgot about the play from the Bulls game - where Coby White - the diminutive point guard, bodies Jabari a good couple of feet off of him hahahaha.
He is either an Omega or Sigma (those are talked about far too little). You see that with the pack of wolves - there is more than Alpha and Beta. There is an over usage of the term Beta.
Jabari+Cam+Tate+2 FRPs for Tyler Herro+Bam Adebayo Sengun/Bam/Dillon/Jalen/Fred Herro/Sheppard/Eason/Amen/Adams/Landale/Holiday. Issue being Bam makes like 50 mill a year....
In a pack of wolves… none of this is true. The science behind this is debunked. It’s just man-o-sphere bs. Jabari is in a funk being an “alpha” or “sigma” wouldn’t help any thing.
The thing is in feudal times you have the King and the vasals or the generals. The general is usually the one good at war, and you have the ministers that devise plans. There is no alpha or beta sayings because in that hierarchy the King is higher in status but the general is the one with the most alpha like behaviour, he is the executioner. The right hand man with the most war skills. Whoever is good at his craft should be heralded, Jabari is not good enough and soft. The alpha mentality thing isn't modern due to role players the betas or omegas have to be ruthless and excellent too. He should excel at his role and craft no matter how small it is.....shooting and help protection.
Has it been debunked or just limited to captive wolves? My understanding is that the alpha, beta phenomena was observed in man-made packs in which wolf social order decayed into man-o-sphere ideology as the wolves didn't care about each other. In the wild, the wolf packs were based more on families instead of who's the strongest a-hole among a bunch of strangers.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2025_advanced.html Advanced stats back up the eye test. In DBM, Jabari is #92. In VORP, Jabari is #145. In PER, Jabari is #132. In STL, Jabari is #187. In BLK, Jabari is #104.
A lot of the worries about Jabari would be lessened if he just shot the ball better. But that was my worry about him coming out of college. I thought the defense was overrated, he was never a great rebounder, couldn't handle the ball or create much. And my fear was that if he wasnt a lights out shooter in the NBA then all those other flaws would be more glaring. He has been a decent rebounder though which is good.
Heat might laugh if that was offered for Duncan Robinson. Jabari and more trash has no value for a major player. You’ll have to add Brooks or Tari to get something started. Jabari and picks can get you someone on the nets.
Now way in hell is he worth 4 first round picks and Jabari, Tate and Sheppard. Take off the first round picks, and trade Jalen, Jabari and Tate, and I'm OK, but throwing away all our future picks is crazy for a 30 year old. It would screw us for years later.
Jabari Smith Jr. destroyed any value scoring only 4 points. I think he did that on purpose, not wanting to be traded to Milwaukee. No Sane Player would go to Milwaukee. Snow Cold, Stay indoors for many months. No where else to go. Same as Minnesota.
